Reader seeking author- Fun, easygoing, smart reader seeks author who will make her laugh, sigh, swoon, and fall in love with fictional characters. Author must have fun, unique takes on situations and write with such vivid imagery that the reader feels they are right there with the characters in the story.
Thankfully, I don't need to place a personal ad because I already know an author that will do all of those things-Lauren Blakely. Once again with Stud Finder I found myself laughing, sighing and definitely swooning. This book definitely had me smiling from start to finish.
I adore the premise of this book. I can relate to it a bit since I met my husband on an online dating site....16 years ago. But that aside I loved the idea of a modern day matchmaker and couldn't wait to see what was in store for these characters.
Evie is a woman who knows herself. She's confident in her matching skills, from matching clothing together to matching people with the loves of their lives. She doesn't try to be anything other than who she is, which is incredibly refreshing. I could see myself sitting on the bleachers with her, cheering on the other characters as they played a baseball game and just hanging out.
Dylan is so socially awkward it's adorable. He had me grinning right from the very start. I loved how his brain worked. He's so confident in his tech world that he kind of bumbles a bit in real life which I just found so endearing. His ad had me cracking up immediately-of course a million people would reply to that! He's smart, he's sexy and he had me smiling-he's a fantastic book boyfriend.
I loved watching these two dance around each other-so confident that they were too opposite for each other yet undeniably attracted to one another. Each time they met there was something new, some little spark that showed a connection that just had me grinning. There's a moment in the story when these two are together and Evie makes an observation in her head that just had me saying, YES! Yes, this is what a relationship is! I also have to admit that I love their first kiss. I don't know how this author does it but the first kisses in her books are always...perfect.
As always, the supporting characters in this book were awesome. I love hearing about old friends from past books, finding those little Lauren Blakely Easter eggs. I loved all of the little behind the scenes mentions and interactions between the supporting characters and Evie and Dylan. They were smart and fun. They enhance the story while keeping the focus on our main couple, which can be tricky to do.
The writing was fantastic. I loved the dual point of view, being able to get inside the heads of both Dylan and Evie was really fun. The banter was spot on as always. The plot just flowed, the pacing really worked. This book was just FUN. It was light, sweet, and sexy. My heart sighed and I couldn't stop grinning as I read.
I placed an ad once in my life and found love. I'm glad I don't have to place a reader ad but I know if I had to? Lauren Blakely would be the perfect match. I definitely recommend this book!
Short books are difficult as you have to get a lot of story into not as many words as usual. As always, you needn't worry when the author is Lauren Blakely. In fact, I knew I was going to be on vacation when this book was available, and I still wanted it...she is that good and I knew it would be worth it.
Dylan and Evie are a match made in matchmaker heaven. She is a matchmaker, and he is attractive, single, rich and looking for a relationship. Matching him should be easy...but, what is Evie going to do when she realizes that she wants Dylan for herself?
Answer? Ignore it, run from it, and work to make sure she sets him up with all sorts of perfect dates just so there is no reason to think she is not the best of all matchmakers.
Well, you know how that went. At least you should. And, you know how it ends.
I definitely recommend this title.
“What?” I bare my teeth. “Do I already have seaweed stuck in my teeth, and I didn’t even order it?”
She shakes her head, her smile never vacating her pretty face. “They say on a first date, you can tell more about a man from how he treats the waiter than anything else.”
“And what did you learn?”
“You were quite nice to him.”
“Why would anyone not be nice, though? I don’t get it. I don’t get why someone would treat a waiter, a server, a cabbie, a hotel clerk, a salesperson—anyone—like a douche.”
“I don’t know, either, but it happens.”
“I don’t need to put someone down to feel good about myself.”
She rests her chin in her hand, studying my face. “You’re an interesting man, Dylan.”
“Am I?” I peer at her over the top of my glasses.
“You are. So tell me, what do you do for a living?” She rolls her hands, saying go with it.
“Oh, is this the role-play?”
She nods. “Practice date banter.”
I chuckle, mostly to myself, since it seems too silly to put the car in reverse. But I have to remind myself that Evie is on the clock and doing her job. “I’m an entrepreneur.”
Her blue eyes sparkle. “How interesting. Do you love it?”
“Absolutely. I’ve wanted to start my own company since I was a kid, and I love making things, growing a business, building it up, and selling it for gobs of money. What about you?”
“I’m a matchmaker, and yes, I always wanted to do this.”
“How so?”
“When I was a little girl, I loved setting up my dolls.”
I crack up, enjoying the image of her playing matchmaker to dolls. “Seriously?”
“I had a purple bucket of Ken and Barbie dolls as well as a stuffed panda, and the panda served as the great arbiter of romance amongst the dolls, deciding which couple would be allowed to spend a night in the Barbie house.”
I drag a hand through my hair. “That might be one of the best stories ever. Since basically, you are now the stuffed panda.”
