PRESERVATION BY KATE CANTERBARY-EXCERPT REVEAL

Some things have to fall apart before they can be put back together.

PRESERVATION
The Walshes #7

Releasing May 23, 2017
Vesper Press

Two lonely hearts.

Just once, she'd like to be someone's first choice.
She's strong-willed and spunky, but she's left picking up the pieces from her ex's lies and manipulations, and daydreaming about taking a scalpel to his scrotum.

Flying under the radar is what he does best.
He's laid-back and loyal, but he wants the most off-limits woman in his world, and nothing will ever make that a reality.

An arrangement of mutual benefit.

Two months, four dates.
Five, if things go well.
Five at the most.
But possibly six.
Definitely no more than six dates.
Only the appearance of a romantic relationship is required, and they expect nothing more from their time together. There will be none of those benefits involved.

One wild weekend.

After waking up in bed together—very naked and even more hungover—the terms and conditions of their arrangement no longer apply. Now they're faced with something riskier than exposing their fake relationship:  letting go of the past and zipping up the future.

Some things have to fall apart before they can be put back together.

PRESERVATION excerpt – © 2017, Kate Canterbary

Riley pointed at the plate between us. "These are my favorite pretzel bites in the city. Try some."
I shot him a sharp look. "Are you just trying to get me in a good mood?" I asked. "I did eat lunch today."
"Oh yeah?" he asked, dipping two pretzels in the accompanying sauce. "What did you have? Based on you yelling at me about noticing your shoes, I'd say it was an iced venti skinny latte."
"Almonds," I replied. And an iced venti skinny latte but I wasn't copping to that just yet.
Riley tried to fight a laugh, and failed. "Almonds?" he repeated.
"Chocolate covered almonds, yes." I folded my arms across my chest. "It was an appropriate amount of calories, fat, protein, and carbs."
He shook his head and ate another pretzel. "I don't want to live in a world where a few almonds—chocolate or otherwise—are lunch." He pointed to the plate and pushed his beer toward me. "Eat. Drink. Please."
I glared at the pilsner and pretzels. I hated being told what to do. Just fucking hated it. But then my stomach growled—goddamn it—and Riley shot me a pointed glance.
"People think that a rumbling stomach is the sign of hunger," I said, reaching for his glass. I drained the beer and then selected a pretzel for dipping. "It is not."
Riley gazed at me, his expression flat. It gave me a moment to study him while choosing another pretzel. He was wearing jeans, a tailored shirt with the cuffs rolled up to his elbows, and a pinstriped vest, and his hair was a wreck. It looked like he'd been tugging the dark strands in every conceivable direction. His eyes were rimmed with a bit of red and his lids heavy, as if he'd been rubbing them or hadn't gotten much sleep. Perhaps both. There was a small notebook beside his phone, and a mechanical pencil tucked into the spiral binding.
And he was still more attractive than I knew how to handle. Even tired and irritable, and ordering me to eat his pretzels and drink his beer, he was hot as fuck. I bit into another pretzel and offered him a small smile.
"Would you say the chip on your shoulder is massive or epic?" he asked. There was no hint of amusement in his tone, and he was staring at me with more ice than I'd believed he could muster. It didn't feel like we were sniping at each other anymore. "It might be semantics to you but I'm trying to get a feel for what I'm dealing with here."
But then one of his big hands found my leg under the table. He squeezed and rubbed his thumb along the hollow of my knee, and I started to believe I'd been all wrong about this man. There was the player and there was the overgrown kid, but there was so much more than that.

Kate Canterbary doesn't have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean--Pacific or Atlantic--is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people—be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane—ever since. Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn't writing sexy architects, she's scheduling her days around the region's best food trucks.

THE DANGEROUS BILLIONAIRE BY JACKIE ASHENDEN-BLOG TOUR

Navy SEAL Sullivan "Van" Tate has been called home to reluctantly inherit an empire and finds himself facing the most difficult mission of all: love.

Nothing about Sullivan "Van" Tate is what it seems. A Navy SEAL raised among the New York City elite, Van prefers heart-pounding action over a Wall Street corner office. But when his adoptive father dies and his business rivals move in to overtake his empire, Van must suit up to save the company and protect the one woman most forbidden to him…and the object of Van's most dangerous desires.

Chloe Tate is as ambitious as she is gorgeous. With a newfound independence, Chloe is no longer a prisoner on her father’s ranch. But everything changes when losing her father may also mean losing her life. Even with her survival on the line, Chloe can’t deny the burning attraction she feels the moment she locks eyes with Van, her rich, rough and ready, foster brother and the new head of her father’s company. Tall, dark, and muscled, he's the one man who she has no business being with. But how can she resist a Navy Seal Warrior when he’ll do anything to protect her?

Well, wasn't that fun.

Let's just be real.  You are here because of the story, the blurb is intriguing...but, the reasons you looked in the first place are the cover (because, hello) and the billionaire SEAL because, well, it's a BILLIONAIRE. SEAL.

If that isn't one of the things that got you here, turn right back around because this book is exactly what you expect.  It's hot, he's rich, he's super alpha, capable of leaping buildings in a single bound (wait, he was going down the building, but nevermind that detail, the meaning is there) and really into his woman.  Although, it does take him a bit to admit that to himself.

Van and Chloe are great for one another.  I loved the slightly forbidden aspect of them being pseudo siblings as he is her foster brother, but really, the connection is far enough removed that no one, but Van when he is trying to protect her, is going to care all that much.

You get what you are expecting with this book, a fun, hot sexy ride with a couple of characters you enjoy and who steam up the pages with their sexy times.  This is not my first book by this author, but it is definitely one of my favorites.  I am looking forward to the rest of the books in the series, because, well...Billionaire. Seals.

Enough said.

THE BAD LUCK BRIDE BY JANNA MACGREGOR-REVIEW TOUR

All were shocked at the announcement of the “cursed” Lady Claire Cavensham to Lord Alexander Hallworth, the Marquess of Pembrooke, especially since she is already engaged to another unfortunate Lord. Perhaps she will make it to the altar this time with one of these fine gentlemen! —Midnight Cryer

No one is left breathless at the imperious pronouncement of her engagement to Lord Pembrooke more than Claire. She hardly knows the dangerously outrageous man! But after three engagements gone awry and a fourth going up in glorious flames, she isn’t in a position to refuse...

Alexander requires the hand of his enemy’s fiancée in marriage in order to complete his plans for revenge. It’s his good fortune that the “cursed” woman is desperate. However, what begins as a sham turns into something scandalously deeper...

“Full-bodied romance...with intelligence and heart."—Cathy Maxwell
"Captivating characters and a romance that sizzles."—Eloisa James
"Will leave you swooning."—Sabrina Jeffries

The Bad Luck Bride is the first in a new Regency romance series from Janna MacGregor!

I am not the biggest fan of books where the meet cute involves deception, so I had a little bit of a tough time getting into this book.

Alex and Lady Claire were interesting, and I really liked Claire.  Once I got past the initial dislike of Alex, I was able to engage with the story a little more, but that initial experience did color my overall opinion of the book.

For a debut novel, I thought this was fairly well written, although there were a couple of places that I thought the narrative dragged a little and that too much time was spent in a situation that was not totally pivotal to the book.  This time spent, in my opinion, in the wrong area left another area slightly unresolved at the end, which did feel like an issue in the plot of the story.  Not enough that I was unable to be satisfied at the end, but enough that I didn't totally feel that the entire narrative was resolved.

I did enjoy this overall, and I am interested in reading other titles by this author.

LOVE ME AGAIN BY JACI BURTON-REVIEW

In the latest novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Don’t Let Go, it’s never too late for a second chance at first love…

When Loretta Simmons returns to Hope, Oklahoma, after a disastrous marriage, she’s determined to remain independent for the sake of her daughter. The only thing standing in her way is Deacon Fox—the man she loved and walked away from years ago.

Since Loretta owns the bookstore right next to his current renovation project, Deacon can’t escape the woman who broke his heart. Throw in her adorable little girl and one ridiculously oversized dog, and they’re almost a family. Only he can’t be that guy—what they had was once in a lifetime.

But love has a funny way of re-opening a door you thought was firmly closed…

Second chance romances are some of my favorites.  There is a challenge for the author in balancing the reason that the couple broke up in the past with the idea that they can work things out in the future.  This hit the balance well.

Loretta and Deacon were high school sweethearts, and they split because, as teenagers do, Loretta listened to the advice of others and made decisions that she thought were going to be best for both their futures.  Fast forward a number of years and those choices didn't work out as well as anticipated and Loretta is back home, in Hope and working next to Deacon's current renovation project.  At first, neither is happy, but as they spend time together, and he bonds with Loretta's daughter, the attraction and emotion that was only slightly buried comes back to the surface.

I loved that the characters both worked through some of the issues with their past, that they came to the realization that they wanted to be together here, in the now and in the present, and that there was more than just the past with them.

This is the 7th in a series and while the book is definitely focused on Loretta and Deacon, there are snippets of other characters from previous stories which were fun.  You can definitely start with this book, and the other characters will be pleasant secondary characters, but if you have read the previous books, the little bits of time with them are a lot of fun.

Jaci Burton is a go to author for me, so a small town second chance romance, well, I knew I was going to be getting something good.  And I was not disappointed.

I recommend this book.

PIPE DREAMS BY SARINA BOWEN-REVIEW

A goalie has to trust his instincts, even when taking a shot to the heart…

Mike Beacon is a champion at defending the net, but off the ice, he’s not so lucky. A widower and a single father, he’s never forgotten Lauren Williams, the ex who gave him the best year of his life. When Lauren reappears in the Bruisers office during the playoffs, Beacon sees his chance to make things right.

Lauren hates that she’s forced to travel with the team she used to work for and the man who broke her heart. There’s still undeniable sexual tension running between her and Mike, but she won’t go down that road again. She’s focused on her plans for the future—she doesn’t need a man to make her dreams of motherhood come true.

Lauren plays her best defensive game, but she’s no match for the dark-eyed goalie. When the field of play moves to Florida, things heat up on the beach.

One of Mike’s biggest fans doesn’t approve—his teenage daughter. But a true competitor knows not to waste the perfect shot at love.

Mike and Lauren have a history.  And, it is a painful one.  They were attracted, he was married, things happened, they got together and then they split up.  At least, that is the story she has, and the one that others were allowed to believe.  It is the reason Lauren really doesn't want to give him a second chance.  He is the reason she is no longer a part of the hockey world, and the reason she no longer works directly with a team, so there is a lot that she has done to make it to where she doesn't see him in her daily life.

There were a lot of things that worked.  The reason he had for ending them makes them being able to restart quickly make sense, especially as he starts to tell her what happened, and why, and what he was thinking when he made the decision.

This quick restart, however, is a bit complicated by the fact that Lauren has started the process of having a child on her own.

The combination of their past and the rush placed on the relationship with the fertility treatments both worked and left me feeling like I was not given everything I needed in order to really be on board with them.  The rush of the relationship had not one, but 2 reasons.  And, while it worked, it did leave me feeling like this was a relationship on warp speed and that I was not getting the depth I wanted out of it.

Not that the book was bad, not at all.  Mike loves Lauren.  You can tell this right off.  And, he doesn't try to hide it from anyone.  And, it is nice to read a book where the hero just plain loves the heroine.  Mike loves Lauren, it shows, and it was fun.

I do recommend this title.

ALL ABOUT THE D BY LEX MARTIN AND LESLIE MCADAM-RELEASE BLITZ

Title: All About the D
Authors: Lex Martin & Leslie McAdam
Genre: Standalone Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 2, 2017

Blurb

A sexy new romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author Lex Martin and bestselling author Leslie McAdam…

ALL ABOUT THE D

I'm known for being formal. Meticulous. Professional.

So you’d never suspect I spend my nights photographing my impressive junk for a NSFW blog. Don’t roll your eyes. I’m not bragging. I have millions of followers who’ll tell you they live for my posts.

I’m like a superhero, saving humanity one dick pic at a time.

Except leading a double life means I need someone to help me protect my anonymity, so that no one, especially my family, ever discovers my online celebrity.

When I call one of the most respected law firms in town, I expect quality legal advice and confidentiality. Not a sinfully sexy attorney whose dangerous curves and soul-piercing gray eyes make me want to personally demonstrate my particular skill set.

I shouldn’t be tempted.

Especially when she knows all of my best-kept secrets. But everyone has a breaking point. And I’ve met mine.

Josh was kind of perfect, dick blog aside. Although, that really didn't bother me. What I loved about Josh is that he is a genuinely nice guy. You like him from the beginning, and that always makes a book a pleasure to read.

Evie is wonderful. When I don't like a character in a book, for some reason, it seems to be the women. But in this case, I liked her, her reactions, and overall who she is as a person.

The secondary characters enrich the story, and there is a scene at the end with his family that had me laughing. One of those scenes where, as an adult, you find things out about your family that you never knew when you were growing up. And, this dimension of his otherwise stuff y family gave you an idea exactly where he may have gotten who he is...he comes by it naturally.

Their first meeting is about a penis. Well, about a blog about one specific one...Josh's in fact. And, I admit, while I am not a prude about porn, and have no objections to it, I was not sure how I would feel knowing the romantic hero was, essentially, an internet porn star. But, then you meet Josh and find out that he is so much more than his penis, or his blog, and all is ok. You like him, and it is handled so well that you agree with his reasons for starting it, and for continuing with the blog. Although, some of the things he has to pause while doing to take some of those photos result in some seriously funny moments.

Their chemistry was scorching. So much so that you believe it as it leaps from the book. Are they attracted to one another? Absolutely. Do they genuinely like one another? You can tell that they do. And, I loved this. It drew me to the characters and the book in a way that made me want to continue with them on their journey. It made me care about them, as they were so real...and darn it, I am a little in love with Josh...that I wanted them to be happy. And, as he is more than a little in love with Evie, and treats her like it, you like him just a little more.

Yes, this book was a comedy. But in a way that real life can be funny. It doesn't mean it is less real, or even less life, just that sometimes you end up laughing over thesituations in which life throws you. If you are friends with the person you are laughing with, it's a win. If you are in love with them? It's even better.

If they are an internet porn sensation and it involves a penis mold...well, you have this book.

But, this is all I am going to tell you, because you just need to read the book to find out the rest.

This is my first title by Lex Martin and only my second by Leslie McAdam. I can definitely say I enjoyed it, I recommend it, and I am looking forward to the next one!

This book pulled me in right from the very start. It was funny, sexy with a bit of forbidden lust/love to it that I appreciated. This was my first book from these authors but it will not be my last.

I genuinely liked Evie. Personally, I think anyone reading this book could relate to her on some level (or knows someone like her). She had me on her side from the very first page. One of her coworker's has a nickname for her that made me wince in sympathy-I mean who wants to be known as Miss Frumpy? But as time goes on we see just how non-frumpy Evie is. She's funny, quick witted and a great match for Josh; inside and outside of the bedroom.

Josh was so not what I expected. Born into a very "society focused" family, he's a bit of a black sheep. He has that underdog vibe to him that makes you want to root for him to succeed. He's witty and the banter between him and Evie is priceless. He's incredibly sexy (and he knows it) and he had me swooning in the end.

These two have amazing chemistry, and I mean more than just the sex between them. They were a great match for one another's humor and heart. I definitely laughed out loud at some portions of this book and other portions had me wondering if my kindle would melt since they were so hot.

I enjoyed the secondary characters in this book as well. Both Josh and Evie's friends, their coworker's and families. Nobody overtook the story but they each added to it in their own unique way.

This book had more emotional depth than I was expecting but I enjoyed that. I enjoyed their journey from start to finish. I would recommend this book and look forward to going back through other books these authors have written!

Leslie McAdam

Leslie McAdam is a California girl who loves romance, Little Dude, and well-defined abs. She lives in a drafty old farmhouse on a small orange tree farm in Southern California with her husband and two small children.
