I loved getting to know more about Vanessa. She's fun, sweet and loyal-almost to a fault. She's the kind of woman everyone wants to be friends with. I loved seeing her put herself out there and own up to feelings she tried to ignore.
Shaw? Well, Shaw just made me grin. He's funny but has a sexy streak a mile wide. I could definitely picture him front and center on a fireman's calendar with a smolder, then laughing it up with the photographer after. I liked him and really respected him. Watching him finally go after Vanessa made me cheer.
I loved watching these two dance around each other. Their banter was was fun and flirty and the longing between them to be something more was so palpable. I would have cheered when they finally acted on their feelings but I was too busy fanning myself. Their sexy times were, well, sexy. Their relationship outside the bedroom was just as important to them and I enjoyed watching them figure out if they could really have it all with each other.
Catching up with friends from other books always makes me grin. The book club ladies in this book? Well, I hope to be half as fun as they are when I'm their age. I just adored them. It was nice to catch up with Arden and Perri and their men as well. I'd like to live in this book world and just be friends with all these characters!
The writing and pacing in this book just flowed seamlessly. I was hooked from the very first page and didn't want it to end-even though I read it in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down. That's what this Author's writing does for me. It creates the perfect escape.
The audio of this book is fantastic! If you aren't an audio fan, I urge you to give this book a listen. The performances were just spot on. I love how these narrators work together to deliver this story! Also? There's novellas with the audio that you WON'T want to miss-I'm still re-listening to them and swooning all over again.
I loved every moment of this book. It's sweet and sexy and left me with such a grin on my face. I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it-and the audio as well!
And a few meddling townspeople, some friends who know what is going on with them (even when they ignore it) and a well timed snowstorm. (Can I mention, the one time I was stranded due to weather, I was at a 7-11 and not in a picturesque, private, well-stocked cabin with a sexy firefighter? But, that't not the point...)
The point of this story is crazy, undeniable, and real chemistry that says it is time for them to stop resisting being together and just admit that is all that the other wants.
As this is a shorter novel, they are a little more forthcoming with their feelings and the progression of the story was a little faster...but it worked as we have had little snippets of their relationship and it's development throughout the other 2 books in the loosely connected series.
As always with a Lauren Blakely story, the focus and the strongest part of the plot is the characters, and in this case, I enjoyed both of the characters. I liked their connection, their sincere desire to do right by one another, and how much they really were worried about how others would react if they changed their relationship to more than friends.
The fun of this story is realizing, quickly, that the only people who aren't aware that Shaw and Vanessa are in love are, well, Shaw and Vanessa.
Watching them figure this out makes for a great read. I enjoyed and recommend this title.

I have this fantasy.
The details vary a little. Sometimes I’m in the town diner, other times I’m walking across the square. Most of the time, I’m right here at the one-stop check-in and shoe counter at my bowling alley.
The rest of it goes like this: This guy strides up to me. A rush of tingles spreads down my chest at the sight of his dark hair, his five-o’clock shadow, and his big, burly frame. He drums his fingers on the Formica, lifts a brow, then smiles.
I mean one of those world-class, panty-melting grins that make you swoon.
But the real swoon is what comes next.
He’ll say, “Level with me, Vanessa. I’ve had it bad for you for most of the last two decades, and I’ll wager it’s the same for you. If you feel even one ounce of what I feel, let’s shed this whole ruse and make it official. Go out with me. Go out with me tonight.”

And then I wait for the abject guilt of keeping a secret from Perri to subside. Perri, one of my two best friends in the universe, the girl who’s been there for me through every up and down, who attended the theatrical productions I worked on in high school, the friend who rushed to my side in the hospital room when I broke my leg skiing in college, even though she was two hours away, the woman I gave the kick in the pants to last year with her guy when she needed it.
Shaw’s hazel eyes flicker, and I know he’s waiting for me to set up his dirty joke.
My guilt hardens—and my hope deepens, too. The longing for this man beats on.
I return to his “hard” comment. “Hard for what?”
“Hard to find socks.”
I laugh, shake my head, and shoo him off. “Go bowl some strikes, Shaw.”
He gives me a tip of the imaginary hat and heads off to lane twenty, joining a few fellow firemen. I do my damnedest not to stare at his sexy butt, or admire his big frame, or, honestly, even think about him like that.
It’s something I’ve been trying to do for years.
When a group of older ladies—twice my age and totally fabulous—comes in, I shift my focus, setting them up at one of the lanes and serving them wine.
For the next thirty minutes, I don’t even look at lane twenty.
Well, maybe I peek once or twice.
