He knows if she's been bad or good.
Amidst the sugarplums and mistletoe, fashion stylist Julia Bennett is every inch a scrooge. Known for her ice-queen ways, she's having a meltdown over a botched business deal and an upcoming milestone birthday. Add the pressure of forced holiday cheer, and she's ready to dive into the spiked eggnog and not come out until summer.
Warren Stone, president and owner of the Sugar Rush Candy Company, is determined to make Julia slow down and enjoy the holidays. As her friend and confidante for thirteen years, he knows her better than anyone. But when decking the halls leads them to an explosive, sexy night, everything suddenly changes.
And when Warren decides Julia is all he wants for Christmas, will she risk their longtime friendship for the gift of love?
Julia and Warren have been friends for years and she has been a huge part of Warren's life since the death of his wife, who was also Julia's sister. And, there is an attraction between them that feels real, and authentic. There is a concern that there may be a few people who think it is not appropriate, as she was slightly related to Warren, but this is never made to be a huge deal.
I liked them together, I liked their chemistry, their obvious attraction and appreciation of one another, and I liked that they were genuinely friends. Their first time as lovers is spontaneous and I really enjoyed that.
I liked a lot about this book. But, the reason it is 3 stars is I was a little disappointed with the older characters. Both of them seemed to think they were old, too old for a lot. Once was approaching a "milestone" birthday and seemed to be doing it with dread. Warren is retiring from the candy company to move on to a different phase of his life, but it always felt a little like he was doing so before it was too late.
50 isn't old. I get it, you think about the past and the future...but making it seem like the characters felt old made it a little difficult to really engage with them in the story.
I do recommend this book, even though I was a little disappointed with a part of it.
