Conflicted in the depth of her feelings for bad boy Gavin Kingsley, lonely librarian Emma Bell knows he’s all wrong for her—yet the heart wants what it wants. But if she gives into his dark, erotic desires will she lose herself completely? Passion, drama and suspense combine in the highly-anticipated conclusion to Emma Bell’s love affair with the alpha and enigmatic Kingsley brothers. Secrets will be exposed, sides will be chosen, and nothing will ever be the same. This is book two in the series, following Dirty Little Secret.
Emma was so much stronger to me in this book. Yes, she had her vulnerabilities still, but I truly feel she grew emotionally from the first book to this one. She was much more self assure, more aware of herself. She stood up for her in some situations where if she'd been faced with them in book one I think she would have cracked. Emma is a character I really like and would want to hang out with in real life.
Oh Gavin. Where can I find a Gavin? He's a true alpha male in every sense of the word. BUT he has this soft side, this uber protective side that Emma brings out in him that was so amazing. There was a scene with him that moved me to tears. His growth and healing was raw and real. He had a hell of a journey to go on and I loved seeing how he navigated that.
There's a lot that goes on in this book. Some I'm dying to talk about but can't because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. There's drama, suspense, heartbreak and definitely a fair share of hot sex. The plot moves well and the writing is dynamic and strong. My breath caught in my throat more than once and I was moved to tears in other spots.
Dirty Little Promise was a fast read for me, once I started I didn't want to stop. I was hooked from the beginning and loved every moment of the journey these characters took. This is not a standalone book. You must read Dirty Little Secret to understand where these characters are coming from, but I promise you won't regret it. I recommend this book and look forward to the next in this series.
Emma and Gavin had one heck of a cliffhanger, and a love triangle with Cooper, at the end of the first book...how this is worked out, and the resolution to the relationships, is the fun of the story...and what I don't want to give away.
I liked the first book a little more than this one, and this one seemed like it moved a little fast at the end and was a little slower at the beginning. I thought there were things that could have been resolved a little faster and things I would have liked to see more explanation of. That said, I enjoyed this overall and I do recommend it.
Even though telling you why would be a spoiler, I can say that I liked the direction the story took and I think it is the perfect resolution not only for this story but jump start to the next one. No, this is not a cliffhanger and the story of Emma and Gavin end here...but, there are some wonderful breadcrumbs for where the story will take us now.
I recommend this book.
The start to a sexy new series from New York Times bestselling author, Kendall Ryan... She’s much too innocent for me, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting the sweet, young librarian. I’m dominating and possessive, and my control streak runs a mile wide. The way she looks at me—like I’m one of the heroes in the books she loves, like I’m broken, and she wants to be the one to piece me back together—it only complicates things further. I’m nobody’s hero. But there’s no denying my tragic past reads like one of her favorite literary classics. It’s raw. Visceral. Captivating. And together, we’re a perfect mess. How am I expected to resist when the sexual sparks zap between us and set me on fire? The need to control, and claim her force my walls to come tumbling down, but when she learns my dirty little secret, will my world come crashing down with it?
A New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author of more than two dozen titles, Kendall Ryan has sold over 1.5 million books and her books have been translated into several languages in countries around the world. She's a traditionally published author with Simon & Schuster and Harper Collins UK, as well as an independently published author. Since she first began self-publishing in 2012, she's appeared at #1 on Barnes & Noble and iBooks charts around the world. Her books have also appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists more than three dozen times. Ryan has been featured in such publications as USA Today, Newsweek, and InTouch Magazine.
