EYE CANDY BY JESSICA LEMMON-VIRTUAL TOUR

Don’t trust lust at first sight.

EYE CANDY
Real Love #1

Releasing July 25th, 2017
Loveswept

Don’t trust lust at first sight. One woman chooses reality over fantasy in this friends-to-lovers romance.

Jacqueline:

As an adult woman—and the vice president of a marketing firm—I shouldn’t be waiting by my office window to ogle the mystery man who jogs by every morning at 11:45. Sure, he’s a gorgeous, perfect specimen of the human race, but I can’t bring myself to hit on a total stranger. However, my best friend–slash–colleague Vince Carson thinks I should do more than talk to the guy. In fact, he’s borderline obsessive about “getting me laid.” (His words.) But the more time we spend together, the more it’s clear: The one I’m falling for is Vince.

Vince: Jackie Butler’s got it bad for some pompous, over-pumped A-hole who struts his stuff past her window. That doesn’t bother me. I know she deserves nice things. What does bother me is that she friend-zoned me big-time last year, so I can’t ask her out myself. But what if I set her up with Mr. Steroids? Then, when he breaks her heart, I can swoop in and save her like the nice guy I am. Everything’s going according to plan . . . until we share a ridiculously epic kiss. And suddenly anything is possible.

I loved the premise of this book.  The idea of a woman who sees someone, finds him appealing, and then wants to pursue him...all because he runs by her window at the same time almost every day.

Jacqueline and Vince are friends, but Vince is starting to accept that he wants there to be more between them.  The problem?  They are friends, Jacqueline helped him through his divorce, and she has pretty firmly "Friend zoned" him.  And, she doesn't date.

Vince's idea around this?  To set her up with the runner guy, so it "breaks the seal" so to speak on her dating, and he can move in when things don't work out.  Vince is the only one who thinks this is a good idea.

Does this backfire?  Of course it does, and that was obvious from a mile away, that this was going to go wrong.

The story itself, aside from the premise of the runner, is pretty much the standard friends to lovers.  But, the difference here is Jessica Lemmon.  As always, her writing is fresh, and it is fun. She takes what could be an ordinary story and gives it life through her characters, and the relationships they have with one another.  You get to know them, and you connect with them.

Friends to lovers is difficult, as there is a lot at risk in taking that leap, and I loved the way the author handled the anxiety of this, how it was mixed with the friendship, and the awkwardness of the change in the relationship.

I also appreciate the use of stairs.  Those worked well too...but to get that explanation, you are going to have to read the book, which I recommend.

Jessica Lemmon is a go-to author for me. I know when I see a Jessica Lemmon book that I'm going to laugh, swoon and have to fan myself. Eye Candy had me doing all of those things-and it even made me tear up.

Eye Candy is a refreshing take on the friends to lovers romance trope. We have Jacqueline and Vince, friends and coworkers who have bonded over their past failed relationships. There's a deeper connection there that they both ignore, assuming they're better off as friends...until Jackie sees a hot runner run by her window.

I loved Jackie-O. She's so real. This is a character I could sit down and have pizza and beer with. I imagine she portrays things every woman feels at one point or another-that uncertainty about themselves. She's funny, she's smart and she's sweet. But it's that vulnerability that got to me, that really spoke to me. Seeing her push through that and grow with it was amazing.

Vince. Holy hell did I love Vince. He had me laughing and swooning as he planned how he would get the girl. He's a bit scarred from his last relationship too, which lends a guardedness to him that totally works here. I fell in love with him from the start and I know other readers will as well.

The connection between these two is palpable. You can feel it jumping off the page and you just want them to be together. You want Vince to realize it's ok to love and not just be in lust/like with someone. You want Jackie to see she isn't lacking. And you want them both to realize that they're perfect together. Not individually, no, but they are the perfect match for each other. The way the author allows these characters to tell this story is great.

I read this in one sitting. I didn't want it to end-which is how I react to this author's work in general. I would absolutely recommend this book and look forward to the rest of the series.

ALL OR NOTHING AT ALL BY JENNIFER PROBST-ARC REVIEW

Tristan Pierce left the family business to carve out a life of his own, but never forgot his passionate affair with the much younger, inexperienced Sydney Green, or the hurtful break-up that tore him apart. When he’s forced to return home and face his past, will he be able to carve out a future, or will lies ruin his second chance at love?

Sydney Green loved Tristan her entire life, but when he left, he took not only her heart, but her trust with him. Now that they’re together again, it’s time they both face the biggest secret of all….

Wow.  I have enjoyed the other books in the series, but this one was by far my favorite.

Some books just work.  The appeal of the second chance, the changes in the relationship between Tristan and Sydney as the book develops, and their realizations about the things that happened in the past, and the why behind them, was really compelling.

This book drew me in from the beginning, and I was not able to put it down.  I also thought the plotting was interesting, as the way the book develops, and the way the characters develop, left me feeling differently at the end about Sydney's actions than I did at the beginning.  I think this was why I was able to connect so completely.  In order for them to have their happily ever after, Tristan has to forgive Sydney.  I found that I was also able to see her behavior differently, and that helped me being able to be really behind the end of the story.

Jennifer Probst is a favorite of mine, usually for this reason.  I am drawn into the characters and her writing just works for me.  This book was no exception.  I am sad to see the series go, but I could not have asked for a better conclusion.

I recommend this title.

It was time to be promoted to CFO.

And they had no idea it was coming.

Nerves fluttered in her stomach, but she ignored them.

Sydney walked back into her office with her coffee, her Jimmy Choo high heels sinking into the plush carpet. She’d dressed to impress in her designer Donna Karan apple-green suit and even managed to pin up her crazed curls in a semblance of professionalism. Her black-framed glasses added a flair of style and seriousness. After grabbing her flash drive with her PowerPoint presentation loaded, she quickly set up the conference room with her handouts and laptop, then brought in a tray of pastries from Andrea’s Bakery with a pitcher of water. Nothing wrong with a little bribing, especially when it involved sweets. She double-checked the room.

Perfect. She was ready. She picked up her mug for another sip. She’d calculated this quarter’s profits and could clearly show the margin of growth once she brought in this new—

“Morning.”

She jerked at the deep, cultured voice breaking into her thoughts. Coffee splashed over the edge of her mug onto her jacket. Cursing, she swiveled her head, her gaze crashing into whiskey-colored eyes that were as familiar as her own beating heart. Familiar yet deadly, to both her past and her present. Why did he have to be the one who was here first? The man possessed an inner alarm clock that detested lateness.

She still hated the little leap of her heart when she was in his company, but it’d just become part of her routine. Kind of like eating and breathing.

Anyone else would’ve brought a smile and a bit of chatter. But Tristan Pierce didn’t talk to her. Not really. Oh, he lectured and demanded and judged, but he refused to actually have a conversation with her. Not that she cared. It was better for both of them to keep their distance.

“You scared me,” she accused. “Why don’t you ever make any noise when you walk into a room?”

Those carved lips twitched with the need to smile. Unfortunately, her presence rarely allowed the man to connect with any of his softer emotions, so he kept his expression grim. They’d been dancing around each other for two years now, and still struggled with discomfort in each other’s presence. Well, he experienced discomfort in the form of awkwardness.

She experienced discomfort in the form of sexual torture.

“I’ll work on it.” He gestured to the new brown stain on her clothes. “Need help?”

“I got it.” Her body wept at the thought of him touching her, even for a moment. Down, girl. She grabbed a napkin, dipped it in water, and dabbed at her suit jacket.

“I didn’t realize we were having a meeting today. I have some appointments.”

“I rearranged your schedule. This is the only time that everyone was able to meet.”

“Another board meeting?”

“Sort of.”

He didn’t ask any other questions. He rarely did.

She tried to ignore the waves of masculine energy that emanated from his figure. He’d always been the quiet one of his brothers, but he never needed words or noise to make his presence known. When he walked into a room, everyone noticed—men and women. He held a demeanor of competence and power in a whole different way from his brothers, Caleb and Dalton. As the middle child, he was a peacemaker and able to make decisions with a confident quickness most admired but never duplicated. His thoroughness was legendary. Tristan was able to see a problem from all angles and attack it with a single-minded intensity and level of control. He’d once brought that same talent to the bedroom, concentrating on wringing pleasure from her body with a thoroughness that ruined her for other lovers.

She studied him from under heavy-lidded eyes. His suits were legendary—custom made from the best fabrics and cut to emphasize his powerful, lean body. Today he wore a charcoal-gray suit, a snowy-white shirt, and a vivid purple tie. Engraved gold cuff links. His shoes were polished to a high sheen and made of soft leather. He always reminded her of one of those jungle cats who prowled with litheness, amber eyes lit with intention, taking their time before deciding what to do with prey. His analytical mind was as droolworthy as his body. Hard, supple muscles balanced with a beautiful grace most men could never pull off. His hair was thick, perfectly groomed, and a deep reddish brown. His face was an artistry of elegance, from the sharp blade of his nose to his square jaw, full lips, and high cheekbones. Lush lashes set off eyes that practically glowed, darkening to an intensity that made a woman’s heart beat madly. He was beauty incarnate, a feast for the senses a woman could never bore of while spending the rest of eternity studying every angle and curve and drowning in his cognac gaze.

She’d once been that woman. Of course, that was centuries ago, before the ugliness between them sprouted from dark corners and swallowed them up whole.

Didn’t matter. She only dealt with Tristan for work now, though the past two years had been more difficult, as she was forced to spend so much time in his presence. Those five years after he’d moved to New York and been away from Harrington were hard, but she’d finally grown up. Become a mother and made her own niche in life, rather than waiting for him to dictate her wants and needs.

If only she weren’t still attracted to the man.

Already the room surged with the innate connection between them. Some things never disappeared. They’d always had chemistry. Now it was just a matter of accepting it as fact and ignoring it.

Most of the time she managed.

“Let me settle in. We’ll start in fifteen?” he asked.

“Yes, that’s fine.”

She turned away, discarding the napkin, and he left. She practically sagged in relief. Having him too close threw her off, and this morning she needed to be a poised, cool, confident professional.

I enjoyed this book overall.  I liked Mia and Nick and I mostly believed their attraction to one another.  I definitely bought into the motivation for both of them, and I liked the idea that this was initially a summer romance, with Nick always planning to return to the city.

I thought the writing was easy to relate to and flowed well, and the characters were realistic.  Unfortunately, I thought the plot of this one was a little uneven.  I think the challenge of a small town romance is the balance of the romance with the other characters in the small town.  You have to have the other characters, or it is not a small town romance...but too much time with them and the main story is diluted, which I thought it was a little here.

Mia and Nick had a lot going on, a lot to deal with, and a lot to handle.  I thought there was not quite enough time in the narrative with them and the resolution to some of the things felt a little fast and I was hoping for a little more depth with some of the story.

I do recommend this book, and I enjoyed the writing.  I will read other titles by this author.

“Did you enjoy the play?” Nick leaned over to speak into her ear.
She jumped and then blinked as the overhead lights went on. “It was nice.”
“Nice?” He raised one dark eyebrow and grinned. “It was a murder mystery where the villain killed his so-called friends with poisoned martini olives. Nice isn’t the first word that comes to my mind.”
“I meant it had a good plot. I didn’t guess who did it until the end.” Probably because she hadn’t paid attention.
“I knew it was the town clerk all along.”
“The town clerk? I thought it was the caterer.”
“When he isn’t on the boards, the actor who played the caterer is the town clerk over in Kincaid.” Nick chuckled. “He’s always cast as the villain in local theater productions. Cat says it’s because he has evil eyes. He grew up in Firefly Lake, and every Halloween when we were kids, he dressed as a monster and scared her half to death.”
“I’m a city girl, remember?” Easy banter, keep it light and pretend everything was like it had always been between them. “I’m still not used to the kind of community here and how everyone seems to be connected to everyone else.”
“There’s a lot that goes along with that community.” Nick got to his feet and shepherded Mia through the crowd to the exit. His big frame sheltered her and made her feel safe and protected. “People know your business and think they have a right to talk about you because their grandmother’s second cousin was related to your great-aunt by marriage three times removed. They post pictures of you on Facebook.”
Mia’s face heated. A copy of that Facebook picture had appeared on Gabrielle’s kitchen table. She should have gotten rid of it but instead, Mia had taken it upstairs and tucked it into the bottom of her suitcase. Then ignored Gabrielle’s pointed looks.
“Do you want to get ice cream? Simard’s Creamery has a stand across the street from where we had dinner.”
The intimate bistro with tables for two, where the muted candlelight had softened the planes of Nick’s face, and they’d bumped knees under the small table to send jolts of awareness through her.
“You like your tiger tail ice cream, don’t you?” Although Nick’s voice held a teasing note, something hot and elemental sparked in his eyes. Then his expression changed again, and he was the Nick who’d helped her with her mom’s foundation on all those late-night phone calls last winter. The friend she called when she wanted to talk about anything and everything.
Mia stopped in the middle of the rutted track in the field where they’d left the car. The long grass tickled her bare legs below her sundress, and she shivered in the cool night air. They’d go for ice cream and then Nick would take her home. They’d drive the familiar highway back to Firefly Lake and talk about the play and how well Charlie and Lexie were doing. Safe, easy topics.
He’d drop her off at Harbor House, and she’d go upstairs and get into Georgia’s single bed beneath the tattered travel posters. Alone. Like all those other nights she’d spent alone, denying what she wanted and making excuses.
“I changed my mind. I don’t want ice cream.” Her voice shook.
“Mia, I—” He made a choked sound.
“I thought about what you said.” If she didn’t go for this, she’d always regret it and wonder about what might have been. And maybe a fling with Nick was exactly what she needed to put the last ghosts of her marriage behind her. “You’re right. We’re both single and neither of us wants something the other one can’t give.”
“Are you sure?”
She tried to laugh. “We’d have to be discreet.”
“Of course.” The raw desire on his face was replaced by a glimpse of what might have been vulnerability.
“I like you, and I know you won’t hurt me.” Because she’d locked the part of her that could be hurt deep inside. “We both have needs.” She kicked the grass with her sandals and rubbed her bottom lip.
“I like you, too. What Jay did was wrong, and I want to make sure you understand I’d never do anything like that.” A pulse fluttered in Nick’s throat. “We might not have a relationship, but I wouldn’t sleep with anybody else if I slept with you.”
Mia looked at the night sky, where stars twinkled above the forested hills. When she was little, she’d wished on stars and believed in a happy-ever-after. But she was an adult, and life had made her wiser and destroyed her childish belief in magic and wishes. “Where do we go from here?”
“I’ll take you back to Mom’s if you want me to.” Nick’s arm brushed the curve of her shoulder through her light sweater, and the tremble inside her kicked up. “If you’re not ready.”
She was ready all right and had been even before he kissed her the first time. “I want this.” She lifted her face to his as a cloud scudded across the moon. “I want you.”

“It’s just a job, how hard can it be?” I was hired by his father to become his live-in caregiver. It sounded like an easy job. But the day I arrived at his broken-down Scottish castle I started to realize it might not be as easy as I thought. I was not told that I’d be looking after a dark, brooding, rich man mired in a world of pain. I was not told that this man would push all my buttons and test even my strongest limits. I was not told that he was devastatingly gorgeous with a wickedly, sinful mouth. I was definitely not told that what I’d end up feeling and what he would propose would drive me wild. But I’m Annie and this is my new job. And damn it, I’m not going to let anything, even him, that gorgeous, sinful, delicious man, stand in my way. You believe me? Don’t you?

This was my first book by Callie Harper, and I enjoyed it. I liked the writing style and I thought the characters were well developed. I liked the pacing through the book, and there is a time jump (which is not a spoiler as it is listed in the chapter headings) that I thought was important, as I was not sure how Ian and Annie were going to move on from where they were when they met.

Ian was in tough shape. Alone, brooding, addicted to alcohol and pain pills, partially handicapped from an accident, and about to lose his entire inheritance. So, possibly not your normal, average, romantic hero. But, just like Annie...who is hired by his father as his caretaker without Ian's knowledge...Ian grows on you. You start to feel for him, and you start to understand why he feels trapped by things that happened to him as a child, and by the reaction of the people around him to those things.

Annie brings life to a crumbling castle....literally, they are in a crumbling castle in Scotland, and by doing so, brings life to Ian. She pushes him to want more, to remember that there is more, that he needs to work, to reach out, to see if he can move past where he is now.

I thought it was obvious, based on the number of times it was mentioned, the direction the story was going to take. It is not possible to discuss without spoilers, but suffice to say there are some major changes in the year time jump.

That said, I thought the pacing was off. I thought too much time was spend on the part that took place in the castle and not enough in the parts after. The relationship foundation, the attraction and the chemistry are developed well in the first part, but the real possibility of them having more isn't really there until the second part, and the story doesn't get there quickly enough, so the ending feels a little rushed.

I did enjoy this overall, but I wanted more of the second, after the time jump, part of the book.

FRACTURED LOVE BY ELLA JAMES-ARC REVIEW

I was sixteen when he came to our house. Landon Jones, a boy with nothing, from nowhere. He had cinnamon hair and blue eyes—light blue, just like mine. When we went out as a family with my foster brother, people asked if Landon was my twin. He wasn’t. That year, we found out how much he wasn’t. When my parents caught us, they threw Landon out like trash.

Now I’m twenty-nine, a soon-to-be surgeon, like my mom and dad. I know residency is going to kick my ass, but I had no idea that it would rip my heart out, too. Not until I see him—Dr. Jones.

Thud.

Angst.  So much angst.

My heart was in my throat for so much of this book.  The beginning, as is so very Ella James, was so taboo and so compelling.  You are drawn into the story of Landon and Evie.

There were parts at the end that had me teary, and there were parts at the beginning that had me gasping and hurting for the 2 people who really hadn't done anything wrong, for parents who wanted to do the best they could, and for a whole bunch of people who really only made the best decisions they could at the time, even if in hindsight a lot of hurt was the result.

I especially love his statement at the end about how this love is something you just have to make work, because the other choice isn't ever going to be ok. Choices, those that are big, with consequences, that seem right at the time, that you question later while struggling to remember it was the right one at the time.

EJFracturedLoveLIVEThis is what the book is about, at it's core.  About people who want to be together, who should, but who have life getting in the way.  It's about the choices you make, not knowing there is another option, sometimes because it hasn't presented itself yet.  It's about fate, about the fact that if you are meant to be somewhere, or with someone, that you will eventually end up there.

It is with Evie, with Landon, her parents, his family, the choices they all make.  The idea that life itself often gets in the way of life is really at the core of this story.  And, that sometimes life knows best, that sometimes the decisions you make were actually the right ones, because another decision could have ended up worse, or could have led you in a different direction, so you ended up somewhere totally different.

This book is not an easy read.  it's emotional, it's gutting, it leaves you dying to know what happens next.  But, it is powerful, and beautiful, and well written.  I wanted a little more time with Landon and Evie in the "now" but overall the book works well, and it is enjoyable...albeit an angst ridden read.

I recommend this book, just make sure you have a few hours, as you are not going to be able to put it down, and tissues.  You are going to need them.

Well, this wasn't quite what I was expecting-but by no means am I complaining! These characters tugged me into the story right from the beginning of the book and I was simply captivated. I know this is a story that will stay with me for quite some time.

I love how this story flowed. I loved meeting teenage Evie and Landon. I thought their backstory was heartbreakingly beautiful. I could FEEL the longing, the desperation they felt for one another. Their connection was there for them the moment they meet, no matter how hard they try and fight it. I did have a bit of an issue with what kept them apart-for 11 years, mind you, BUT I believe the way things were handled when they were teenagers is exactly how a family MIGHT handle things, right or wrong. I'm not spoiling it by telling you what exactly happens there, trust me you'll want to read it.

These two have such an emotional journey to go on. There are so many issues for them to work through but you can't help but root for them. I cried for them-multiple times. This is definitely a read to have the tissues ready for, in my opinion. My heart broke in this book but each time, these characters stitched it back together in a way that only they could.

I don't want to spoil this book in any way. Are there some things that might seem cliche once you see the events fold out? Maybe, but again, these situations REALLY work for these characters. It gives them a chance to grow and mature, both separately and together. The connection between them never really goes away and you can see that from the moment they see each other again.

This isn't my usual kind of second chance romance love. I'm not a huge fan of angst, I can get enough of that on the news, but the amount of angst in this book? It just worked. The tears I cried over these two were totally worth it in the end. I recommend this book.
