Sex And Other Shiny Objects by Lauren Blakely-Release Blitz

SEX AND OTHER SHINY OBJECTS by Lauren Blakely
Release Date: January 13th
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Blurb:

The second the test-the-sexy-scenes offer landed in my lap, I said yes.

After all, I've been damn curious about a few things I've read in romance novels. Do buttons truly go flying across the floor when you rip off a guy's shirt? Is staircase sex hella hot or does it leave you with a big old bruise mark on your back? And don’t even get me started on all that panty shredding, and whether it even works.

Time to find out as I embark on Project Sexy Scenes Research, at the request of my hotshot book editor bestie.

All I need is a willing scene partner. Enter Tristan, my best guy friend. The witty, tell-it-like-it-is, bearded hottie volunteers for the experiment.

He's also the guy who gave me the most devastating, toe-curling kiss of my life ten years ago. But nothing has happened since then. And nothing will come between my panties and our friendship now since we have a plan to keep it PG. But once the buttons start flying, all bets are off…

I'm not surprised that my first five star book of 2020 is a Lauren Blakely book. Sex and Other Shiny Objects is a fabulous friends to lovers book with the perfect balance of heart and heat. This book had me captivated from start to finish and definitely made me swoon.

I absolutely loved Peyton. She's smart, kind and has a big heart. I truly enjoyed watching her growth throughout this book. It was fun to see her put herself out there and open herself up to new experiences-and I loved the way she used to convey her feelings throughout the book, even when she didn't realize that's what she was doing.

Now Tristan? That man had me shaking my head at times. I understood, and respected, his actions but I did groan out loud at him once or twice. He is guarded, but so loving, and that combination just made my heart sigh. I loved, loved, loved seeing his story unfold throughout the pages.

I'm a sucker for a well done friends to lovers story-as long as I believe the characters are truly friends first. Peyton and Tristan? There is no doubt that there is absolutely a friendship built on respect and love for one another here. The chemistry is there for more as well, but it's always a matter of timing for them. These two melted my kindle as they commenced their sexy scenes research! The connection they had outside of the bedroom only made their sexy times hotter.

There's a secondary relationship that I also have to address, and it's Tristan and his brother Barrett. Part of what made me love Tristan so much is how he interacts with his younger brother. These two have some fabulous moments in the book and they definitely made me smile.

The writing in this book is sharp and fun. It's witty and sweet. I highlighted a few passages and I'm still swooning thinking of a specific one. Lauren Blakely makes you feel like you're a part of this world. I feel as though I could step inside these pages and be friends with these characters for sure.

I also had the pleasure of listening to this book in advance. Let me tell you, if you're an audiobook fan, get ready for a treat! Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke bring Peyton and Tristan to life, and there are several other narrators that make appearances as well. It's truly a treat for your ears! If you haven't tried an audiobook I strongly encourage you to start here-you won't regret it!

This book was the perfect way to start my 2020. Sex and Other Shiny Objects left me with a grin on my face and my heart is still sighing when I think of it. I would absolutely recommend this book.

Fear is a powerful motivator. Fear of failing, of being vulnerable and even fear of getting what we want (because then we might lose it) are a lot of the reasons many of us do the things we do. It's also incredibly human and it allows you to really connect with the characters, as we've all been there. Maybe not while reenacting popular romance novel scenes, but we have all let fear keep us from saying what we want, or from acting as we want. Yes, fear keeps us from getting too close to the edge of a cliff, but it also keeps us from taking risks.

Tristan and Peyton had me tearing up, and cheering for them. I liked both of them, together and apart. And I felt for them and for the ways in which fear was holding them back...until it wasn't.

Sometimes chemistry in a book just works. This is one of those books. The insight in to Tristan's mind, what he was thinking, and how much he wanted Peyton made this into one of the hottest friends to lovers books I have ever read. It just worked.

The secondary characters are the kind you want to have their own books because you want to know them better. Yes, I know some of them will...but there's one in particular I want to keep tabs on, even knowing that he's a fictional character.

I didn't want this book to end, even though I wanted them to get to their happy ending they do totally deserve.

I loved and recommend this book.
