I loved Quinn and Vaughn. Truly adored them both. I found their personalities compelling, their romance completely and totally believable. I loved watching them together, seeing them figure each other out. For a planner like Quinn, Vaughn was definitely a bit of a detour and I liked seeing her navigate him.
This couple's journey wasn't what either of them were looking for or expecting, and I liked that. I enjoyed watching them realize what they truly wanted from one another and I love the way they handled the curveball that life threw at them.
As always, the writing here was sharp and fun. The story just flows right off the page. The supporting characters enhanced this couple, and I always love getting a glimpse into past Lauren Blakely characters. That said, this is a standalone so don't worry, you can jump right in.
I'd have enjoyed the journey of Quinn and Vaughn no matter when it was set, but it was perfect in the holiday setting. This quick read left me grinning and sighing, and I couldn't ask for more from a romance novella. I adored this book and highly recommend it.
No, I am not the Grinch (although he is an idol of mine and I do have Grinch slippers) Scrooge, or even a holiday hating movie villain, I just find holiday romances to be a little...wanting. Like the romance between the characters exists because of eggnog, pretty lights and holiday cheer. Don't misunderstand me, I love Christmas...but, I want a romance set at Christmas that I believe could have happened if the people had met in June.
Vaughn and Quinn are that romance. I believe their relationship and the holiday elements were woven into the story in such a way as to enhance it, but not to take over the real point of the story, the relationship.
I also believed the resolution of the story. As this was a novella, it needed to have a reason for me to believe that the connection was real and that they would be willing to move toward one another. This was definitely present in this story...and, while it was set at Christmas, I would have also believed it in June.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.
