Never Have I Ever by Lauren Blakely-Release Blast

Blurb:

Falling for the enemy has never been so deliciously complicated in this standalone romance where a sexy single dad meets his unexpected match! Get ready for all the feels!

Never have I ever been so infuriated by a man I wanted to kiss.

They say opposites attract, but I beg to differ. Combust is more like it. Because every single time I talk to Zach Nolan, I see red.

The too-good-looking, too-smart, too-effortlessly charming single dad who works down the hall from me has turned getting under my skin into a sport. Call it the battle of wits between the wedding planner and the divorce attorney.

Trouble is, when we’re forced into closer quarters planning an engagement party for our best friends, I start to see his other sides.

And I fear I’m falling for the enemy.

***

I’m not out to make friends. My goals are simple -- fight till the end for my clients, and my family.

The last thing I need is a vibrant, outgoing, snarky, and surprisingly big-hearted wedding planner to spend my precious free time with…except, watching Piper bond with my daughter just might break down the cinder block walls I’ve built around my heart these last few years.

Second chances don’t come around for guys like me…or do they?

Never have I ever been disappointed with a Lauren Blakely book-and this one? This one is hands down one of my favorites. Frenemies to lovers and a single dad? Yes, please! This book made me smile and swoon and even brought me to tears.

Piper and Zach were an absolute delight to get to know. They're part of the same group of friends, but not exactly friendly initially which just made their interactions that much more fun. The banter between them had me smiling, and the way their relationship evolved just felt so natural and organic. I fell for Zach before Piper did; he just absolutely had my heart from the very start. These characters felt real and like people I would want to hang out with-so I'm ready to join their group of friends.

As mentioned above, Zach is a single dad. The interactions he has with his kids in this book were so incredible. I loved watching him figure out how to balance everyone and their needs-including his own. He's smart, sexy and has a sweet side that just made me melt. Piper is much the same way-and her kind and giving heart just made me smile.

The writing of this book is just superb. It's witty and fun and it just flows perfectly. I personally love how this Author weaves in characters (and places!) we've met before, but this is absolutely enjoyable as a standalone.

These narrators brought this book to life for me. I adore Jason Clarke (who doesn't) and I love all of his different tones and inflections for different characters. Amanda Ronconi was newer to me but her timing and tone were just impeccable. These two played off each other seamlessly and just were delightful to listen to. I didn't want to stop listening to this story!

I would honestly give this more stars for both the performance and the story if I could. I truly believe these narrators nailed these characters and brought them to life so very well. As for the story, I said before and I'll say again that this is one of my favorite Lauren Blakely books. This is heart, humor and heat with a side of sweet. I loved it and can't wait to listen and read again.

Well...wow.

I am seriously at a loss for words. Not in a bad way, not at all. But in that way you are when you read something and you know you won't be forgetting it any time soon, that it's going to linger and that you are going to immediately reread favorite parts.

There's nothing simple about this book or the way the plot is constructed. It tells the perfect story at the perfect pace that it allows you to move with the characters, to feel with them, and to fully connect with them in ways that is rare in a book. As I was reading this book, I knew the entire time that it was absolute perfection, and the book just kept getting better.

Zach is perfection. As you get to know him, you realize how deeply he loves and your heart breaks for him and what he has been through...until he shows you that you don't have to hurt for him, that his past is something that he endured and that it was awful, but that little by little, he's ok. And, most importantly, he is 100% ok now. To paraphrase his words, not the same, but ok in the new normal that he has found. Which is exactly what life, and living, teaches you. Things happen and you are different because of them, but you aren't broken.

I love that we, as the reader, find this out sort of as Piper does. Not entirely, as this is dual POV, but in the same sort of time. We find out more about his past in little glimpses, and that he is ready, and that Piper is the one woman he has been attracted to in a long time.

Piper, in her own right, is also so complex and perfect. She has things in her past, as we all do, that leave you thinking that she might not be ready for the love she finds with Zach, and in a lot of ways...ironically...she is the one who needs to deal with her past in order to get to her future. I loved this, that the expected person with the baggage was the one who actually had it pretty much together. It also left them in a place where they could relate to one another.

For so many reasons, none of which I will spoil here, this book had to be precise. It had to make Zach the hero while also not making him the villain, while still allowing the reader to believe that a life and a romance with Piper was something that he was able to commit to. This book did all of this, and then it added perfection.

Also, it made me cry.

There have been a lot of Lauren Blakely books that I have loved. There have been more than a few that have lingered, that I find myself thinking about it the car on the way to work.

This one, however, is my new favorite of all of them.

It's hard to say this, as my favorite of hers hasn't changed for quite a while...but, as Zach might say, it's ok to move on and to allow something else to exist where something else once was. So, I am going to take his advice and say that this is my new absolute favorite Lauren Blakely title.
