TURNING BACK BY JA HUSS-RELEASE BLITZ

I lived in the dark for three years. My whole world revolved around the whims and happiness of three men. It was just a trip into the forbidden. A way out of a bad situation and forward into nothingness.

Quin, with his easy smile and charming good looks. He was always there for me... Until he wasn’t.

Smith, and his dispassionate attention. He was never there for me and he never regretted it.

Bric, the one who listened, but only to himself. Self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-serving. He was never the one I wanted.

And now he might be the only one I have left.

It was good while it lasted, I guess. But it could’ve been so much more. It could’ve been so much better.

And that’s why I’m turning back.

“So then what happened?” Bric asks.

We’re sitting at our booth in the White Room. Before I left, I’d sit in the middle of the bench, Quin would sit across from me in a chair, and Bric would sit to my left.

Bric is still to my left, Quin isn’t here yet—if he’s coming at all—and Adley is in her baby seat on my right.

Everything is familiar—but off.

“Then he went to bed.”

“What’d you do?”

“I sat there on the couch for a while trying to figure out what happened.”

“What did you come up with?” Bric is looking very intently at me. Like everything I’m saying is critically important.

“He hate-fucked me, that’s what I came up with, Bric!”

“Rochelle,” Bric says, throwing me one of those Don’t overreact looks.

“I’m serious. There’s no other explanation for it. He hate-fucked me. Revenge fuck. Whatever you want to call it. That’s what happened last night.” I sigh and try not to feel depressed and sad. “And then this morning I got out of bed to go check on Adley when she woke up, and when I came back, he was gone.”

“Gone?” Bric asks. “Where’d he go?”

“Just left,” I say. “I texted him. Asked if he’d be here for breakfast. And he never texted back.”

“He’s just mad,” Bric says.

“I know.” I huff. “He told me that last night too. He spelled it out very clearly. He was worried about me. Sad about my leaving. But then when I came back—”

“Now he’s just angry.”

“Right.”

“It’s a pretty typical reaction,” Bric says.

“I realize that. Which is why I’m not going to make a big deal about this. But I don’t know if this is going to work, Bric. He might not want me. He might just want to hurt me. Exactly the way I hurt him.”

“No,” Bric says, like I’m being ridiculous.

“I’m not being ridiculous,” I say. “Maybe he’s not out to hurt me. But he’s doing something, Bric. He’s playing a game, but I’m pretty sure we’re not all playing the same game.”

“He’s mad, Rochelle. You have to expect that. He’s gonna come around.”

“What does that mean? Come around? Do you really think he’s gonna fall back in love with me the way he was? Because I don’t. I think he’s here for us. Me, you, and him together. And that’s all.”

Bric rubs his hand across his scratchy jaw as he thinks this over, so I check on Adley. She fell asleep in the car on the way over here and hasn’t woken up yet. Bric is still thinking.

“I don’t want an us, Bric.”

He looks me in the eye and says. “I do. But I get it. And I’m fine with you and Quin getting your little happy ending. But I’m telling you, Rochelle, he’s just trying to protect himself right now and the best way to let him work that out and ensure you two get back together is to have an us.”

“He said he doesn’t trust me.”

“He has a good reason,” Bric counters.

“I know that,” I say, starting to get angry. “I understand that. But the whole point of us doing this… game… or whatever it is, was so that you can help me figure this out. I want him, Bric. You’re supposed to help me.”

But as soon as the words come out of my mouth I realize how stupid that is. I trust no one and I have very good reasons for that. I’ve learned over the course of my life that people are selfish. People are out for themselves. People are liars. I have a lot of experience in being lied to.

Elias Bricman definitely fits all those assumptions I have about people. And then some.

SCREWMATES BY KAYTI MCGEE-SPOTLIGHT

I knew from the first time I saw Marc Kirby that I was screwed.

Big eyes, scruffy face, brown curls – yes, yes, and yes. The man is wicked hot.

He’s also my roommate, and since I work nights and he’s at class all day – it’s like living alone at half the rent.

Then an unexpected night off turns into an unexpected morning in Marc’s bed, but it turns out we can't even figure out the screwing.

This is not great news for Marc who’s going on a “bangcation” at the end of the summer – a whole month in France that he’s planned to spend getting busy with the women of Paris.

It’s also not great news for me for obvious reasons.

With both of us needing work on our skills, there’s only one logical solution to our predicament.

Told you I was screwed.

There is a talent in the ability to make me laugh and swoon at the same time, and Kayti McGee has this talent. This is not the fist time I have thought this, and I have enjoyed other books by her, but this one, for me, is her best yet. It just really worked.

Marc and Madison are wonderful. Marc is a PhD candidate and future teacher who is convinced his life is as beige as his couch. Madison is an artist, and a talented one, who hasn't yet gotten to the point where she can support herself with her art. From their first impactful meeting to their nights on the couch, in wine tasting events, and other places, I was drawn to them and their story. And, really, it is impossible not to be as they are so human, so real. The conversation in the aisles when they go shopping together *might* have been oddly similar to one I have had in my own life.

Ahem.

Anyway.

Madison and Marc were real, they felt like people to me, and I just loved both of them.

It's a balance...if I am going to laugh, I need to not lose the heat, the attraction, and the build up to more. If I am going to enjoy the sexy times, I need to not have them seem dirty when juxtaposed with the humor. And, it was balanced perfectly. The writing, the characters, the pacing. It all worked so I was invested in their relationship while laughing.

I am not going to get into how she does this, exactly, as it would ruin the story...but I can say that I have never laughed harder at 2 people NOT having sex.

Just read the book, you will be so glad you did

PORN STAR BY LAURELIN PAIGE & SIERRA SIMONE-SPOTLIGHT

You know me.

Come on, you know you do.

Maybe you pretend you don’t. Maybe you clear your browser history religiously. Maybe you pretend to be aghast whenever someone even mentions the word porn in your presence.

But the truth is that you do know me.

Everybody knows Logan O’Toole, world famous porn star.

Except then Devi Dare pops into my world, and pretty soon I’m doing things that aren’t like me—like texting her with flirty banter and creating an entire web porn series just so I can get to star in her bed. Again. And again.

With Devi, my entire universe shifts, and the more time I spend with her, the more I realize that Logan O’Toole isn’t the guy I thought he was.

So maybe I'm not the guy you thought I was either.

Oh. My. Stars.

So, you read a book titled "Porn Star" and you go into it with some idea what you will be getting.  And, on a lot of levels, you get what you are expecting.  There is porn, and the sex scenes are plentiful and hot.  And Logan is HOT and so is Devi.

But you also get a lot that you are not expecting.  And for me, this is where the book needs more than 5 stars.

You like Logan.  He is a good guy, he respects women.  Not because he has to, but because he does.  Porn, in his world, is not sleazy, nor is it exploitation of women.

Devi is also amazing.  She is in porn because she wants to be and no one judges her for that.  Her parents are supportive, she stands up for herself, she knows her boundaries, and she doesn't let anyone make her feel cheap.

Amazing job by the authors of making porn feel real and of addressing the changes that are happening in the industry as well as some of the stigmas and of addressing, with a change of names, the rape and assault charges levied against one of the biggest names in the industry.  Kudos for this, for making this story so much more than a romance novel that just skims the surface.

I am not able to get into too much detail without a lot of spoilers, and the story of Logan and Devi is just too good to experience spoiler free.  So, read it.  And know going in that you are going to get something well worth the time it takes to read the book.

BLOOD SCRIPT BY AIRICKA PHOENIX-REVIEW TOUR

Blurb:

“Ever f*cked a pirate?”

He was insufferable, deeply scarred, and frustratingly gorgeous, and he was the man who was blackmailing her into tying the knot.

Cora Harris has never had luck with men. Being the daughter of a ruthless crime boss tended to put a dent in any relationship, but she never imagined she’d get kidnapped in the dead of night by pirates. She sure as hell never imagined the asshole with the smoldering gaze would threaten everyone she loved if she didn’t become his wife.

Only Captain James Crow wants more than just her hand in holy matrimony. He wants her absolute submission. He wants her pain. He wants the one thing she’s never given anyone — her heart. But is he willing to give the daughter of his sworn enemy his in return?

“How easily his eyes could make her forget that he was her captor. Not her savior.”

But when the truth is revealed, can James keep Cora from the true evil in their midst? Can he win before his revenge cost him more than just his life? And how far will Cora go to free herself of the man who enchanted her, seduced her, and when she submitted, imprisoned her?

Vengeance and betrayal will either bring two warring families together or obliterate them all.

This book is adult and intended for a mature audience with strong elements of language, sex, and a dirty mouthed pirate. It has cases of BDSM, kink, and violence.

Pirate books are just fun. Let's start there. Yes, I am probably not supposed to be ok with men who kidnap their women, and hold them hostage...I do get this, but darn it, pirate books are fun.

And, I love them. because they are pirate books. And they are fun. Because pirates.

Then there was the blurb. And, I was hooked. And, who wouldn't be? That's a valid question.

This book did not disappoint, not even a little. She was a modern day tavern wench...although in this one, she owned the bar. He was, well, a pirate. Because this is a pirate book.

The writing was strong and the characters consistent, a little rough around the edges but still characters you like and want to get to know more of, to see what happens next. The challenge of a book like this is to allow your pirates to be pirates while still letting them be romantic heroes, and Airicka Phoenix hit that balance well.

I am sure there is a lot that I should say isn't right to be written in 2017, but, the pure honest truth is this book is a pirate book, and a good one at that. So, go into it knowing that it's a book about pirates...and he is a pirate and have fun with it. I did.

I recommend this book.

This was my first Airicka Phoenix book and my first pirate book. I was definitely excited to try something from this subgenre and the blurb for this sounded interesting so I jumped at the chance to read it.

I will say it took me a bit to get into the story-I felt like I was put into an existing story and felt a bit lost at first. But then it clicked for me and I was able to easily follow the story along. I appreciated that this was a modernized pirate story. When I think pirate, I tend to think of a man with a parrot on his shoulder and that's not James at all.

James and Cora. Wow, these two were made for each other. Cora's feisty attitude matched and challenged James, more than he expected. The heat these two generated was scorching. I don't want to get into too much detail about them personally because I really want readers to experience them for themselves.

Now, this is definitely a bit more darker of a read than I usually gravitate to. There are some things that I'm sure would bother some readers, but taken in context I didn't mind them. I believed that is how this story needed to play out.

This is definitely an author I'll read again. If you're looking for a suspenseful, darker romance give Blood Script a try. I'm glad I did.

KING OF WALL STREET BY LOUISE BAY-SPOTLIGHT

THE KING OF WALL STREET IS BROUGHT TO HIS KNEES BY AN AMBITIOUS BOMBSHELL.

I keep my two worlds separate.

At work, I’m King of Wall Street. The heaviest hitters in Manhattan come to me to make money. They do whatever I say because I’m always right. I’m shrewd. Exacting. Some say ruthless.

At home, I’m a single dad trying to keep his fourteen year old daughter a kid for as long as possible. If my daughter does what I say, somewhere there’s a snowball surviving in hell. And nothing I say is ever right.

When Harper Jayne starts as a junior researcher at my firm, the barriers between my worlds begin to dissolve. She’s the most infuriating woman I’ve ever worked with.

I don’t like the way she bends over the photocopier—it makes my mouth water.

I hate the way she’s so eager to do a good job—it makes my dick twitch.

And I can’t stand the way she wears her hair up exposing her long neck. It makes me want to strip her naked, bend her over my desk and trail my tongue all over her body.

If my two worlds are going to collide, Harper Jayne will have to learn that I don't just rule the boardroom. I’m in charge of the bedroom, too.

This is my 2nd book by this author, I read and LOVED Indigo Nights, so I was excited to delve into the world of Max King and see where I ended up.

Well, now I know. Max King is a lot of fun. He is a compelling man, authoritative in the boardroom, and in the bedroom, but with a heart of gold and misty eyes when it comes to his teenage daughter.
Harper is a fun heroine, a little naïve at first and hurt by Max’s initial treatment of her, as she had fantasies about entering the work world, being at her dream job, and starting off on a high note, wowing her boss, and being the best junior researcher in the history of ever. The kind of fantasies that all of us have, the ones that rarely work out that way.

I loved everything about this book. Especially the cover. Have you seen it? Did you pause and then go back for a second look? I know I did. I am not sure what it is about that cover, but oh my I loved it.

The pacing is perfect. The book flows well and there are no places where it drags or seems to jump too quickly. I was fully engaged throughout the entire book, which is a requirement if I am going to give a book 5 stars.

The characters were wonderful. Nuanced, compelling, and true to themselves in ways that I both expected and in ways that impressed me, as there were some areas where the author could have used the plot that was already there to create tension, and instead she stayed true to the characters and away from some of the more obvious clichés that can appear in books.

The plot, as I have said, I believed it. I could follow along, and I thought that it was possible real people, in real life, could live the events that unfolded in the story.

The angst was missing in this, for the most part. Yes, there was some, but it didn’t come from the obvious places. I appreciated that, as it showed that Max was the stand up guy you think he is, that he treats the people in his life with respect, and that he gets it in return. When I started the book, I was a little worried that the characters who were so different in their public and private lives wouldn’t mesh, well, I had nothing to worry about there. Max is a full, nuanced person. With more than one side, more than one aspect to his life…just like all of us.

I highly recommend this book.

My grabby hands are out for the next thing Louise Bay writes, as you can guarantee I will be reading it.

I was born into British aristocracy, but I’ve made my fortune in Manhattan. New York is now my kingdom.

Back in Britain my family are fighting over who’s the next Duke of Fairfax. The rules say it’s me--if I’m married. It’s not a trade-off worth making. I could never limit myself to just one woman.

Or so I thought until my world is turned upside down. Now, the only way I can save the empire I built is to inherit the title I’ve never wanted-- so I need a wife.

To take my mind off business I need a night that’s all pleasure. I need to bury myself in a stranger.

The skim of Scarlett King’s hair over my body as she bends over . . .

The scrape of her nails across my chest as she screams my name . . .

The bite of her teeth on my shoulder just as we both reach the edge . . .

It all helps me forget.

I just didn’t bargain on finding my one night stand across the boardroom table the next day.

She might be my latest conquest but I have a feeling Scarlett King might just conquer me.

A sexy, standalone romance.

LOVE UNEXPECTED BY LOUISE BAY-SPOTLIGHT

Blake

When the fierce redhead with the beautiful ass walks into the local bar, I can tell she’s passing through. And I’m looking for distraction while I’m in town—a hot hook-up and nothing more before I head back to the city.

If she has secrets, I don't want to know them.

If she feels good underneath me, I don't want to think about it too hard.

If she's my future, I don't want to see it.

I’m Blake McKenna and I’m about to teach this Boston socialite how to forget every man who came before me.

Mackenzie

When the future I had always imagined crumbles before my very eyes. I grab my two best friends and take a much needed vacation to the country.

My plan of swearing off men gets railroaded when on my first night of my vacation, I meet the hottest guy on the planet. I decide he could be the distraction I might just need.

I’m certainly not going to reveal my deepest secrets to him as we steal away each night hoping no one will notice.

And the last thing I’m going to do is fall in love for the first time in my life.

My name is Mackenzie Locke and I haven’t got a handle on men. Not even a little bit. Not until Blake.

Note: Previously titled Love Rehab. A sexy standalone contemporary romance.

This book reminded me why I love Louise Bay.

It had everything. Blake and Mackenzie were wonderful, relateable and acted as people would in this situation...at least how I think they would having never been to a wilderness love retreat.

But, that is what matters...that as a reader, I am invested in the story and intereste4d in the characters and where they are going. I definitely was with this.

I sympathized with the choice Blake needed to make, as there was a lot of emotional baggage and I think it was handled well, and in a way that someone reading it would understand the difficulty of the decision he faced...to let go of the comfortable and familiar and to take a chance on something that had stung him in the past.

I loved that Mackenzie was facing the same kind of dilemma, but with a different focus...hers was more internal but she also had to look at herself, what was comfortable, and learn to be a different person so she could move forward.

I really liked this, the idea that both Blake and Mackenzie were facing the same decision, albeit one physical and one emotional. I loved the tie it gave them to one another, and I loved that this connection made their instant connection very understandable.

Honestly, I could say more, but at some point it just becomes impossible to avoid spoilers, so I am going to leave this here, with the highest possible recommendation.

If you have never read Louise bay before, starting here is a great place to begin. If you have, reading this will not disappoint.

I highly recommend this book.

I stumbled across Louise Bay’s work this year and I am so glad I did! This book is just another example of why she’s such a great author.

When I read the blurb for this book I was immediately hooked. As someone who collects book boyfriends I felt I just might be able to relate to our self-described loveaholic Mackenzie-and in a sense I did. I loved going on this journey of self-discovery with her. Her two friends added to the story without taking away the focus from Mackenzie, and I appreciated that. I certainly wouldn’t mind getting their stories someday-hint, hint Louise!

Blake…oh Blake. I love how he was on a similar, yet different journey from Mackenzie. I think everyone can relate to the fear he’s facing in his life at this moment and watching him resolve that was very satisfying to me.

The writing here makes you feel like you’re really right there with the characters. The pacing here totally worked-it was slower to me than some books but I personally needed it at that pace in order for the story to work. Once I started this book I didn’t want to stop reading. I loved it and would absolutely recommend it!

THE ATTRACTION OF ADELINE BY LISA WELLS-BLOG TOUR

The Attraction of Adeline

by Lisa Wells Off-the-Wall Proposal #2 Publication Date: April 10, 2017 Genres: Adult, Entangled: Lovestruck, Contemporary, Romance, Comedy

SYNOPSIS:

The Proposal: Adeline Rigby will live with Accountant Jack Foster and pretend to be his fake fiancée for one month in order for him to seal a promotion to partner. In return, Accountant Jack Foster will intimately tutor Adeline Rigby in French before she leaves for Paris where she will fulfill her dream of attending Le Cordon Bleu. The Terms: 1. Maintain distance. Three get-to-know-you dates before announcing their engagement will be tempting enough. 2. No kissing. Okay, fine. Three kisses. Maybe four. And neck kisses don’t count. 3. No touchy feely stuff. Or at least not too many public displays of touchy-feely stuff. 4. No sex. 5. All right, all right. One night of sex in order to be a believable engaged couple. 6. Two nights of mind-blowing sex to make sure first night wasn’t a fluke. 7. Absolutely, positively, no falling in love.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series...well series might be the wrong word, even though there are some recurring characters from the first book...so I had high hopes for this one. And, I can say they were mostly met.

Adeline was wonderful and you really like Jake. He is a good guy, but he loves Adeline, and that was fun. You like both of the characters, and you relate to why they are attracted and to the reasons that maybe they are not going to be able to work. The idea that it was started as a pretend engagement means they didn't really have those "what will your life look like in the future" conversations because they didn't need to. And, this added an interesting element to the story.

That said, I thought the resolution of the issues was too easy. Yes, love conquers all in a romance, but at the same time, there is a certain amount of liberty when you are an author to decide exactly how tall a mountain love will have to climb. And, in this one, I thought the differences in what he wanted in a wife and what she wanted for her future were too quickly and easily resolved.

That said, I did believe that Jack and Adeline really did love one another, so quick resolution or not, I believed in it at the end, and that is what really matters.

I recommend this book.
