Men. Manuscripts. And Manolos…

I was failing at two of the three.

Dating life aside, when you’re an agent for a successful publishing press, climbing the corporate ladder isn’t your biggest problem… Staying there is.

So, when the biggest football star in the world wants to write a tell-all about his life and career, I put my bid in right at the top.

My only issue?

Mr. Playboy Pro is none other than Colton Evans, my CEO’s step-brother.

A walking wet dream with dark features and an even darker past, I find that behind the fan-favorite smile is an arrogant bastard.

The worst part? I think I like it.

But when getting to the truth of Colton’s sordid story takes an unexpected turn to trouble, everything I love will be on the line, including my job… and my heart.

She stops in front of me, sticking out a hand.

“Hi. Anastasia Lexington. And you are?”

I’m shocked. She doesn’t know who I am. I shake her hand. “Tom…” I hesitate. “Tom Brady. Pleased to meet you.”

“Might I ask what brings you to Tripping Out! publishing, Mister…” She pauses, pursing her lips together. “Brady?”

“To be honest?” I suddenly feel the need to be. “I don’t exactly know.” I scratch the back of my head. “Guess I just wanted to get a good look at this place, see what goes on here.”

“Can’t see much of what goes on here from the lobby.” She almost smirks. “Got an appointment?”

I get the feeling she already knows the answer. “No.”

“Someone know you’re coming?”

“Not at all.”

“Well, then, I’m sorry, Mr. Brady.” The pretty brunette tilts her head. “Looks like the lobby is the only thing you actually can see. We can't allow you in any further without a guest pass. I hope you understand. Have a good day.” She starts to turn. I grab her wrist. The motion shocks us both. The brunette gasps, and I hear her breath hitch. It’s softer than a sigh.

Her skin is silky smooth and the second I touch it, I know I’ve made a mistake… because for some reason, I don’t want to let it go. Her hazel eyes are almost the color of her hair, and it’s as if they’re on fire when they look at me, searing my sweat-stained skin. She smells like the hue of her dark honey irises, as if she were literally caramel-coated, and everything below my waist stirs from the blush creeping up her neck, the slight shine of her full lower lip.

I look harder.

This girl isn’t just pretty; she’s fucking beautiful, and I can’t help but feel turned on by her unapologetic spunk as she snatches her wrist away, fixing me with a glare that could start fires. She takes a step back from me.

“Don’t ever touch me," she warns. She adds a softer note. "Please."

It’s a justified comment, but there’s something in me, some whisper hidden inside my mind that tells me that that’s exactly what I want to do—what I want her to do.

No, more than that, really...

Right now, if I had my way, that soft, satiny skin of hers would be begging for my touch… and I’d only be too happy to oblige. She bites that lower lip, and I smile.

APPROACHING THE BENCH BY CHANTAL FERNANDO-RELEASE BLITZ

Title: Approaching the Bench
Series: The Conflict of Interest Series #3
Author: Chantal Fernando
Publisher: Pocket Star
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 19, 20018

Blurb

A tenacious, resilient female judge must find a way to work with her carefree clerk as they find themselves in danger when a fugitive sets his sights on revenge in the third book in New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando’s sexy and thrilling Conflict of Interest Series.

Trinity Williams, known as “Medusa” for her stony expressions and unyielding reputation, constantly has her guard up—how else is the youngest female judge in the country supposed to survive in such a male-dominated profession? She made the decision long ago that laughter and a carefree attitude have no business in a courtroom and achieving her professional goals is the only thing she has left. It’s just her luck that her new law clerk, Callum Hopkins, believes the exact opposite.

Callum Hopkins thinks that nothing should ever be too serious in life—why can’t he mix business with pleasure? When he first starts working for his hot new boss, they clash at every turn. He makes it his mission to get Judge Williams to see things his way for once.

But when Callum finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as an escaped convict comes after Trinity, he realizes it’s not all fun and games anymore. Now in witness protection together until the authorities can catch the fugitive, this unlikely pair must learn to trust one another and work together to stay alive. Far away from the courtroom, Trinity and Callum are suddenly free to stop butting heads, and stop fighting the growing attraction between them.

With suspense and plenty of chemistry, Approaching the Bench proves once again that “Chantal Fernando knows how to draw you in and keep you hooked” (Booklist).

I enjoyed this title. It was actually shorter, and a little lighter than I was expecting.

Trinity and Callum are judge and law clerk. She is by the book, a little cold, and not interested in her younger law clerk, even if he is her type. Callum is younger, just out of school, and more than a little interested in seeing what is behind the facade of his boss.

But, she is not going there with him, no matter how much she wants to...until he saves her life. I liked this twist, and the way it moved the story. I liked that we didn't spend the entire book in a judge's chambers watching 2 people flirt over their lunch and coffee orders.

As I mentioned, this book had a lighter feel to it than the previous books in the series, which was interesting and gave it a difference that I enjoyed.

The writing was strong and flowed smoothly and in such a way that I believed I was reading about real people.

I enjoyed this title, I recommend it, and I am looking forward to the next one!

SORDID BY AVA HARRISON - RELEASE TOUR AND ARC REVIEW

It was his lips.
The way his stare sent shivers down my spine.
The way his rough voice whispered my name.
So I caved.
I did what I knew I shouldn’t.
But as quickly as he’s there, he’s gone.
Leaving me confused.
Devastated.
I hope I’ll never see him again…
Then I do.
He’s my new boss.
And he has secrets.

Well, darn it.  I read a good book, and I want to tell you all about, well, all the things.  Especially the part where (spoiler) and (spoiler) happened.  And, you know how it says in the blurb that Grant has secrets?  Well, he does...and one of them...spoiler.

Are you catching on yet?  I want to talk about how much I enjoyed this book.  And, I did love it.  But I also want to tell you why.  And, I can't because it would be a spoiler and I would ruin the fun for you.  And, that is mean.

So, what can I tell you?  I can tell you that Grant is absolutely the jerk you expect him to be, if you have read the first books...or if you just know him from the first meeting he has with Bridget.  He's selfish, or at least that is how it seems when you watch the choices he makes and the way he treats people.

You want better for Bridget.  But, Bridget wants Grant, so you find yourself thinking that maybe he isn't awful.  But then...then....there's that one thing that really makes you think that your original opinion of him might be right after all.

One of the things I loved about this is the fact that there is a taboo element to it...and the author doesn't shy away.  There are reasons, and justifications, but that taboo element is there.  It's real.  And, it's a thing.

The story is constructed well, and you are both frustrated and sympathetic toward Grant and you like Bridget.  It's a credit to the author in this case that you like Grant as much as you do, as he is definitely not perfect.

But, those stories about the flawed hero that you love anyway?  Aren't those some of the best possible romances of all?
