RAW HEAT BY CHERRIE LYNN-REVIEW

The third book in the Larson Brothers series from New York Times bestselling author Cherrie Lynn is the sexiest installment yet!

Youngest Larson brother Damien has the luck of the devil. Fast talking and faster thinking, he owns a successful nightclub in Houston and runs an illegal poker room upstairs. After a troubled childhood, now nothing is out of Damien’s reach—except his accountant, Emma Haskell.

Emma has always been drawn to Damien’s dark intensity and the gleam in his eyes that promises more than she can possibly handle. But when her brother’s gambling threatens to destroy her family, Damien makes her an offer she’d be crazy to accept—but can’t refuse: her brother’s debts will be forgiven, and Emma belongs to him for thirty days.

In Damien’s world, he shows his angelic bookkeeper what it’s like to live with the devil. But Emma brings out a side in Damien he thought didn’t exist. Will the flames of lust scorch them both, or will this beauty tame the beast and give him something to fight for?

Raw Heat scorches with emotional intensity and smoldering passion that will leave readers spellbound!

This book was so interesting and, from the beginning, you are drawn into the romance between Damien and Emma.

Emma is an employee at Damien's nightclub and, while she finds him attractive (and sees him as the stuff of her fantasies) she has never acted on the attraction, or pursued it.

Damien is also attracted to Emma, and for less noble and more "I don't want to ruin her" motivations, isn't pursuing her.

And then, her brother shows up in the illegal casino upstairs and, to pay off his debt, she agrees to become Damien's for 30 days.

You aren't supposed to like Damian, but you do.  You aren't supposed to find him sexy, or compelling, or find anything about him to like,  But you do, and so does Damien...which becomes a problem.

This is definitely a darker book, but I enjoy those so this one was definitely a hit with me, as the dark in this book felt really forbidden, in a way that the forbidden really works and really feels taboo.  The idea that there is an attraction to the person who bought you, and that this person is appealing on any level is a fascinating story arc to explore and made this book well worth reading.

I recommend this title.

Synopsis:

My boss already controls my days; do I want to give him my nights, as well?

Rebecca

I’ve seen what happens when you give everything to a man. That's not what I want. I won't have my heart crushed in anyone's fist.
Then he changed everything.
Him. Bennett Ashby. My boss.
Seeing him at Luminous, dressed in leather pants and wielding a whip...
Do I crave this?
My mind says no, but my body is starting to have very different ideas.

Bennett

I knew Rebecca Morales would be the perfect assistant. That's why I hired her.
I didn't know that working with her every day would lead to temptation—to own her, to possess her.
When she walked into Luminous, I knew I was screwed. Dipping your pen in the company ink is never smart, but we both agreed what happens at the club stays there.
One night and then it's back to business tomorrow.
Except I don't want just one night with Rebecca. I want them all.

“You look beautiful. For reference, though, when I have my subs kneel, they do it naked and with their knees further apart so I can see their pussy whenever I want.” She jerked in response and I settled my hand on top of her head, not pushing, just holding her steady. “And before you say anything,” I said, dropping my voice. “You’ve pleased me Rebecca. For your sake, I’ll go slow tonight. I’m simply letting you know my preference. But you’ve done well. Thank you for not safe wording.” She shivered, goose bumps popped on her arms and I resisted the urge to dig my fingers into her scalp. For someone so hesitant, she was awfully turned on. “Tell me, Rebecca.” I massaged her scalp to calm her. And to touch her. Damn I wanted my hands on her ass. “When you’re like this at my feet, kneeling, how do you feel?” “Not as uncomfortable as I thought, Mr. Ashby, but still weird.” “And if I tell you that you here, at my feet, waiting to please me makes me hard as cement, how does that make you feel?” “Jesus,” she whispered. “I don’t know.” “Sure you do. Tell me. Are you wet? Are you thinking about how turned on I am by this?” Her throaty, raw and breathless voice cracked. “Yes. Yes, I’m wet, sir.” Sir. Holy shit. Never had that one simple word done so much to me. It slammed into my chest and my fingers dug into her hair like I’d been trying to resist. Hell. This woman. “Good girl. Thank you for your honesty. Are you ready to continue?” “Can I ask—” “We’ll do whatever I say. That’s what will happen next.” She shuddered as she breathed heavily, blowing it out through her parted lips. I wanted them wrapped around my dick, my shaft lodged deep in her throat as I shot down deep inside of her. She was undoing me more than any woman I’d met and we hadn’t even done anything yet. What the hell had I gotten myself into with her? “I’m ready, sir.” Yes. Music to my ears. “I want you to look at me, and tell me what you want tonight.” She hesitated, but lifted her head. As she did, I dropped my hand from her head to the side of her neck. I wanted to be touching her, wanted her to feel me at every moment of the night. My hands or my body would be touching her in some way, shape, or form until I left. Which hopefully wouldn’t happen for hours yet. Heat seared into my chest as she lifted her amber-brown eyes to mine. Something like being branded with an iron, I assumed. It took everything in me not to jerk back, not to show her how much her innocence affected me. Or the blush on her cheeks. Or the glint in her eyes. She was scared, but curious too, and she was curious about something more than just submitting. She wanted something. “What would you like, sub?” Nothing like washing away the blush with the reminder of her place. I’d revel in it later. When she was screaming my name with my fingers bringing her off, again and again and again. “I’m having a hard time believing I actually get to choose.” I could have teased her, lightened the mood so she was fully comfortable, but I didn’t. It was much more fun to keep her guessing. “If you can’t tell me what you want, I’ll decide for you, you know.” She glanced at the floor, lips twitching. “Figured that,” she muttered. She lifted her head again, and gave me that burning sensation in my chest. Perhaps I needed a doctor. A heart specialist. “I’d like a spanking, sir.” Not what I was expecting. Hold her hands while I fucked her, yes. Eat her out, yes. She went right for the gusto. Awesome. Because I couldn’t wait. “Very well.” I showed no emotion, but I couldn’t stop watching her fight a grin. If she thought she was winning, she’d learn the truth soon. “Stand and strip. Then show me where your room is.”

CLANDESTINE BY AVA HARRISON-RELEASE BLITZ

Title: Clandestine
Author: Ava Harrison
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 24, 2017

Blurb

One night.
No names.
No commitment.
That was our agreement.
But Spencer Lancaster was addictive.
And I was high.
High off his taste, starved for his kiss, and desperate for his touch.
So when he asked me to stay, to enjoy his company for more nights than I knew I should, I wasn’t in the right mind to say no.
Everything was perfect. A dream come true.
But half a world away there were secrets.
Lies.
Insecurities.
All of the truths that could tear us apart.

This was not what I was expecting, and isn't that such a fun surprise from a book. Don't worry, it is all good, and you will like it. All of the important stuff is there; a couple you like, individually and together, the passion, the connection, the happily ever after. But, in a slightly different way than it usually is...which will make sense when you read it.

From the blurb, I was expecting that this would be a Pretty Woman kind of romance, a few illicit (like what I did there?) nights strung together and then a couple of characters figuring out that they wanted more. Well, it was, and it wasn't, this simple.

In a lot of ways, this is exactly what I got, but the order was different than I was expecting, the development of the relationship with Spencer and Olivia was a little faster than I expected it to be at the beginning. And, like Olivia says, this really lets her, Spencer and in my case, the reader, off the stress of "will they work it out before they leave their time together" and lets you focus on the future. It's also a lot of fun to read the books where the hero just loves the heroine. Yeah, there is a some resistance at first, but even from the beginning, Spencer figures out quickly that what he has with Olivia is different, and that he's never had anything like that before.

Isn't that why we read romance? To be there, with the couple, when they realize this person is it for them? That this is the person they are meant to be with? I know this is one of my favorites of the many ways in which a romance evolves.

There are a whole bunch of unresolved issues, and insecurities. Spencer has his past, his former relationship with his ex, his estrangement with his brother Grant (who is getting his own standalone, isn't that the best news???) and his fear of letting anyone close to him that is causing him to push Olivia away...even though he thinks he is keeping that hidden from her. Olivia has her past as well. And, ironically, although you see this coming, I think, it is the girl who seems to have her family all worked out who has some of the biggest issues to face. Because isn't that life? You have it all figured out, all is going to plan, things are moving as they should and then life happens.

I loved the character development in this book. Through some internal, and some external, neither of them are the people at the end that they were at the beginning. Some of it is big, some of it just those small realizations we all have when we realize something we thought was true isn't true, or is no longer true.

There is a scene toward the end (no spoilers I promise) where not only does Olivia react differently than she would have in the past, but she owns it. She knows it. She stops herself from the knee jerk reaction that she would have had in the past...and because she stops it, she is able to move forward with Spencer. Little moments like this, and there are a couple in this book, are what take a book from good to great.

I could go on, in fact many reading this likely think I should have stopped this review a few paragraphs ago, LOL....but let me just say I recommend this book, you want to read it, and I can't wait for the next one by this author!

Blurb

When a marriage of convenience turns into the passion of a lifetime…

Holden “Havoc” Thompson

My job as the leader of the Moonshine Task Force is my life. I eat, breathe, and sleep it. The men under my command mean the world to me. Knowing they count on my guidance has kept my demons at bay for longer than I care to admit.

The control I have over myself is an iron fist that sometimes threatens to squeeze the life out of me. What I want more than anything is to live again – let go of the hurt smothering every bit of light I have in this darkness.

I don’t expect it to come in the form of a Moonshiner’s daughter needing my protection.

Leighton Strather

My whole life has been defined by who my family is. In the state of Alabama, we’re number one with a target on our backs. The danger and prestige isn’t for me. I don’t care about the money, and I care too much about the families we’ve ruined.

My brother and my dad are proud of it. They wear their arrest records like a badge of honor. Me? I want as far away from the lifestyle as I can get.

It’s the only reason I ask Holden to marry me. At least that's what I tell myself.

I never expect his whispered yes to cause such upheaval in my life. Even though I resist, I learn some havoc is good – and this one? It’s a whirlwind of lust, hope, and love and all I can do is let it sweep me away.

I could have any woman in the world, but all I want is the girl next door.
A sexy standalone

I enjoyed this, a lot. It was fun, flirty and Matt and Lana had wonderful chemistry.

I also liked that I really not only believed in them as people, but believed that the events of the story would actually happen that way, for the most part. There are parts of any story that often stretch a little bit, and there were some parts of the Hollywood set things that seemed like maybe it wouldn't work that way...but that is probably because I live in LA and have a much different perspective of Hollywood than people who live in other places.

I liked that Matt was genuine, and for me at least, this is what made the story work while all of the Hollywood things were happening around him. He understood that he is famous, but it did not define him. I also liked the way the author dealt with this so, as a reader, you could be confident that he wasn't going to turn into someone else. If that makes sense. If not, read the book as being more specific is a spoiler.

I liked that both had positives and negatives to the life that Matt lives. It's not possible to be famous and unaware that there are pressures and that they can definitely impact the personal decisions one makes. I liked that this was dealt with, not ignored because "he's a famous hot guy, you want to date him" which seems to happen in so many other books like this.

I enjoyed it. There was a character and a situation in the book that I didn't think was necessary, as I thought it was a little heavy handed on the "reason" that Lana was so reluctant to be with someone famous. I thought there was more there that it needed, as I think anyone as well developed as the characters would have had the same reluctance to get involved in his level of fame.

Overall, I recommend this title and I enjoyed it.

Matt Easton “You have a boyfriend?” She took another sip of wine and set it back on the table before she replied. “You’ve half asked that before.” I chuckled. True. Not that I was going to act differently if she told me—either way I needed to keep my distance. I just wanted to meet the man who had managed to land this woman. “And I’m still coming up empty.” I glanced at the rise and fall of her creamy breasts, only barely covered by her camisole, and swallowed. Hard. I really should leave. “See that?” she asked, pointing up over the ocean. “Lightning. And again.” “Wow, that nearly cut the sky in half.” Our eyes locked first in excited, shared understanding and then the connection transformed into something that had nothing to do with the lightning. She looked away first. I would have stayed, my eyes fixed on hers the whole night, if she hadn’t. “The air feels charged with something.” “I don’t have a boyfriend,” she whispered. It was an invitation, and not one I wanted to turn down. I wanted to touch her, see if her lips were as soft as they looked. “I want to kiss you,” I said, shifting so that she, and not the storm, had all my attention. The thunder rumbled again. Despite the noise surrounding us, I could only focus on the sound of her breathing. My pulse jumped under my skin, at my neck, in my wrists, in my dick. I really shouldn’t be doing this. But it was just a kiss. And she was so beautiful. And then it would be over. I slid my thumb over her bottom lip. “Look at me,” I said. My gaze flickered down as her breasts rose with her breath. It took every ounce of control not to yank her cami down and put my mouth on that warm, soft, pliant flesh. As I looked at her, our eyes locked, and this time heat passed back and forth between us, growing more scorching with each passing moment. She wanted me to kiss her. Maybe even strip her naked on this deck and fuck her hard and long until I knew every part of her. I groaned, blood rushing to my dick, and leaned in to press my lips softly on the corner of her mouth. Her breath was hot and heavy against my cheek. I dropped my hand to her ass and slid her onto my lap. Wrapping my hands around her silky hair that smelled of the ocean, I pulled, tilting her head back and exposing her neck. I’d been kidding myself to think this was just a kiss. I wasn’t sure if it was because it had been so long since I’d fucked someone new or whether it was the storm or just the way Lana looked at me, but my whole body reverberated with lust. I wanted to touch, hold, possess her. I trailed my teeth along her jaw and she squirmed in my lap. I slid my palms up her thighs and lifted her so she was straddling me. Just a kiss. Right. I wanted her closer, so I wrapped my hand around the back of her neck and brought her mouth to mine in a fractured, desperate connection. With my other hand, I pushed her ass against me. The heat of her covered pussy against my erection made me groan. Sliding my tongue against the seam of her lips, I delved deeper. Fuck, I’d forgotten how hot making out could be. The stuff before the fucking. Before my reform, it had been all about release. All about seeing how fast I could have a woman’s mouth wrapped around my cock after making eye contact with her. But not now. Not out here on the porch with Lana. All I could think about was how I couldn’t fuck her, how I’d never make it that far. She smelled so damn good. Tasted even better.
