FROM BEST FRIEND TO DADDY BY JULES BENNETT - ARC REVIEW

From “just one night”

...to bonded for life

Kate McCoy calculates everything. She has every detail in her life organized to perfection—until the fateful night she steps into Gray Gallagher’s arms. “One time only,” she vows about getting romantic with Gray, her longtime protector and her closest friend. But this time, perfect Kate has miscalculated: the woman who plans everything is unexpectedly expecting. And the heart she has so carefully sheltered starts seeing her cherished friend in a very different light…

Jules Bennett is a favorite of mine.  I love the characters she writes, and the stories she tells feel like they are about real people.  Her writing is strong, and the pacing never seems like it is rushed or that there was no real resolution to the story.

Even though this blurb talks about them having a baby, I loved that most of the book really was about Kate and Gray.  You get to know them, and how they feel about one another, before either of them have any idea that they are about to be parents.

Baby books, at least for me, are tough when I don't feel there is enough of a connection with the characters and wonder if they would be together if there was not a baby.  I believed Kate and Gray were attracted to one another, and Gray was done fighting his attraction to Kate.  I also thought the fear they had of losing their friendship was realistic and I liked the way it was handled.

I enjoyed this title, a lot, and I look forward to the next title by this author.

I recommend this title.

DOWN WITH LOVE BY KATE MEADER - COVER REVEAL

Sparks fly when the hot-shot divorce lawyer meets the high-powered wedding planner. The only question is, what kind?

If you ever get married, remember my name: Max Henderson. In my line of work, you acquire a certain perspective on supposedly everlasting unions. . . .

1. Pre-nups are your friend.
2. The person you married is not the person you’re divorcing.
3. And I hope you didn’t spend much on the wedding because that was one helluva waste of hard-earned cash, wasn’t it?

But some guys are willing to take a chance. Like my brother, who thinks he’s going to ride off into the sunset with the woman of his dreams in a haze of glitter on unicorns. And the wedding planner—the green-eyed beauty who makes a living convincing suckers to shell out thousands of dollars on centerpieces—is raking it in on this matrimonial monstrosity.

The thing is, Charlie Love is not unlike me. We’re both cogs in the wedding-industrial complex. As the best man, I know her game—and I can play it better than her. But after one scorching, unexpected kiss, I’m thinking I might just want to get played.

I enjoyed this title overall. I liked their first meeting, that there was a chemistry there which they were not able to deny, but did not act on...there is an appeal to the one who got away being that one because they couldn't act on the attraction due to commitments to another person.

I liked Mark, I thought he was an interesting character and I liked who he was as a person.

Stevie was, maybe, a little less likeable for me. I struggled with her a little in places and there were a couple of times where I am not sure I was really convinced a person, and this character, would act in this manner.

For me, for a romance to work when there is a past with the characters, you need to be able to leave the past in the past and focus on the future and the present. If the past is a factor, the other people who may have been a part of that past need to be far removed. For me, Stevie's ex was too present and it pulled me out of the story from time to time, and left me struggling to read it in parts.

Not all of it was an issue, and I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between Mark and Stevie. I liked them as a couple, and I believed in their attraction and their chemistry.

Overall, I did enjoy this title, and I do recommend it.

Title: Hothead
An Irresistible Series Standalone
Author: Stella Rhys
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Design: Vivian Monir
Release Date: April 3, 2018

Blurb

He's the hottest player in Major League Baseball, the most notorious playboy in all of Manhattan...

And my fake fiancé for the next three months.

I was drunk-dialing my ex the night I met him.

Six-three, sexy as sin and so incredibly rude I could smack the asshole smirk right off his face. Long story short, we got off to a bad start. But when the tabloids interpret our sparring as Drew Maddox "groveling" with a "mystery brunette," his agent presents us both a proposal:

Shacking up as a couple this summer.

It’s an alleged “win-win.” I need to prove to my ex that I'm fine. Drew needs to prove to his team that he's stable. Thanks to his on-field brawling and never-ending lady drama, Drew Maddox has suddenly found himself on the trade block - which means he needs a fast, easy way to show the team that he's settled down.

Hence this fiancé thing.

Our fights are real, our kisses are fake, and thanks to the nonstop heat between us, I’m starting to mix up all my signs. But whether it’s real or fake, there’s one thing I do know:

I’m already addicted.

Author Bio

Stella Rhys is an author of contemporary romance and can't help but write it hot, steamy and borderline filthy (just kidding, it's just flat-out filthy). Writing aside, she lives for coffee, the Knicks, the Yankees and cooking recipes way out of her league. She was born and raised in New York and now lives there with her husband and charmingly entitled fur babies.

RIDE DIRTY BY LAURA KAYE-REVIEW AND EXCERPT TOUR

From New York Times Bestselling author Laura Kaye, comes RIDE DIRTY, a new novella in her Raven Riders Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

About RIDE DIRTY:

Caine McKannon is all about rules. As the Raven Riders Sergeant-at-Arms, he prizes loyalty to his brothers and protection of his club. As a man, he takes pleasure wherever he can get it but allows no one close—because distance is the only way to ensure people can’t hurt you. And he’s had enough pain for a lifetime.
But then he rescues a beautiful woman from an attack.
Kids and school are kindergarten teacher Emma Kerry’s whole life, so she’s stunned to realize she has an enemy—and even more surprised to find a protector in the intimidating man who saved her. Tall, dark, and tattooed, Caine is unlike any man Emma’s ever known, and she’s as uncertain of him as she is attracted. As the danger escalates, Caine is in her house more and more – until one night of passion lands him in her bed.
But breaking the rules comes at a price, forcing Caine to fight dirty to earn a chance at love.

*Coming to other retailers June 2018

The 1001 Dark Nights titles are favorites of mine. Based, loosely, on Scheherazade and the tales of the Arabian Nights, each story is short but tells a full and compelling story... which if you know the legend, that's the whole point.

Caine is security for an MC club.

Emma is a kindergarten teacher.

A match made in heaven, right? No issues and smooth sailing.

Oddly, it absolutely is. Yes, there are relationship hurdles, but these people just work together.

In Emma, Caine finds acceptance and a willingness to trust. She understands him, she gets who he is and why he does the things he does.

In Caine, Emma finds the connection with another human being that's been lacking in her life since her grandmother's death.

This is a shorter novella, so the characters aren't as fully developed as they might be in a longer title, but I felt I got a full story. With a resolution in a relationship I could believe in, and that made this a fun read.

That and the crazy hot sex. That was fun too.

I recommend this title.
