When you have a
thrice-a-day Starbucks addiction, a love affair with Louboutins, and an
apartment in one of the most expensive cities in the world, the last
thing you need is to lose your job. But that’s what happened to me—or
what will, unless I can pull off the impossible: find Eli Murphy.
Eli,
notorious playboy and New York City high roller, is the founder of the
newzine where I work. He's been MIA for three years. But I think I can
find him. If I do, and I get his story, I can keep my job.
What could go wrong?
Ask me when I’m tangled in my lies—and his bed sheets.
Ask me when we’re running for our lives.
There are things I liked about this book, so I am going to start there,
however they were not enough at the end for me to be able to give this a
positive rating.
I thought the writing was strong, well edited
and with a narrative that was tightly constructed. The plot actually
flowed rather quickly. I was concerned that there was going to be a lot
of time spent looking for Eli, and not a lot of time with them together,
which is not the formula for an erotic romance. But, the author got Eli
and Tara into the same place fairly quickly, so that worry was settled.
Unfortunately, while I was able to suspend disbelief on some of
the situations, such as how easily she was able to find Eli when no one
else seemed to be able to (I ignored this, as it is erotic, the couple
needs to be in the same room quickly, so you have to make it happen) and
thugs in Ubers...I was not able to get past the logic and thought
process of Eli in one particular area.
Just the one...but
unfortunately, when you are not able to totally buy in to the start of
the romantic relationship, there isn't a lot of room to go up from that.
Eli's
thought process. Well. It went something like this..."I think she might
have been sent by the people I am hiding from (I will not spoil why he
is hiding or who he is hiding from) but, I really want to fuck her...so I
am going to ignore this. And, since she can't do what she might have
been sent to do to me while we are naked, it is all good. And, while I
am at it, I am not going to ask her if she was sent by them, because 1.
She could lie and 2. If I ask, she is honest, and says yes, well, then I
am not going to be able to fuck her. So, I won't ask until later.
Cool."
I was not able to get past this.
And, this is a
shame, as the writing was strong, there was a lot of potential for the
story, and up until that point, I was willing to go with the whole idea
of it being an erotic romance, so some disbelief needs to be suspended
because that is often required of the genre.
In this case, I got
the feeling that the author decided to go big with the reason Eli
needed to go into hiding, therefore leading to him needing to be found,
and by doing such, put himself into a position where almost any
resolution that got them in bed quickly (a requirement in erotic, a must
in an erotic novella) was just going to have to work even if it
stretched logic a bit. And, I get that. I really, really, do. I just
wasn't able to get past it.
Writing is highly subjective, as are
reviews, and I am sure this is just my opinion and that it is one that
others are not going to share. That said, I am planning to read the
conclusion of the book, as while this one did not work for me, I do want
to see how it is going to end, and where it is going to go from here.
It am not able to recommend this book, but I reserve high hopes for the next one.

DUKE OF MANHATTAN BY LOUISE BAY-BLOG TOUR
Duke of Manhattan, an all-new contemporary romance by Louise Bay is available now!!!
I was born into British aristocracy, but I’ve made my fortune in Manhattan. New York is now my kingdom.
Back
in Britain my family are fighting over who’s the next Duke of Fairfax.
The rules say it’s me--if I’m married. It’s not a trade-off worth
making. I could never limit myself to just one woman.
Or
so I thought until my world is turned upside down. Now, the only way I
can save the empire I built is to inherit the title I’ve never wanted --
so I need a wife.
To take my mind off business I need a night that’s all pleasure. I need to bury myself in a stranger.
The skim of Scarlett King’s hair over my body as she bends over . . .
The scrape of her nails across my chest as she screams my name . . .
The bite of her teeth on my shoulder just as we both reach the edge . . .
It all helps me forget.
I just didn’t bargain on finding my one night stand across the boardroom table the next day.
She might be my latest conquest but I have a feeling Scarlett King might just conquer me.
A sexy, standalone romance.
I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Scarlett. While this book can absolutely be read as a standalone this character is introduced in another of the author's books-and I didn't love her there. This book made me see why I struggled with her a bit before and made me very sympathetic towards her. She's a strong woman, determined to keep her company hers but she has a vulnerable side I just wasn't expecting-and I loved it. I wound up wanting to be her friend and just hang out with her.
Ryder. I have one word for Ryder. MINE. I fell for him hook, line and sinker the moment we met him in the book. He's confident, a little cocky but has this sweet center for his family that makes him irresistible. I absolutely adored him.
The chemistry between these two was immediately off the charts. From the moment they meet it's full steam ahead-which is fun. Add in the complications of working together/Ryder needing a wife and it put these characters and their attraction in an interesting place. It was fun to read and figure out where they were going next.
I enjoyed getting some cameos from other characters-but again, this can absolutely be read as a standalone. I do wish we'd gotten a bit more time for some things at the end of the book-but overall I was very happy with the story. I recommend this book!
There's a lot about this book to enjoy. Ryder is great and he has an
appeal to him that comes through the page in a very understandable way.
You totally understand why Scarlett would be attracted to him and why
she would be willing to go along with his rather unconventional
proposal.
Scarlett is wonderful and it was great to get her story and to see what happened to her after meeting her during Max's story. I liked who she was, that she was willing to put everything on the line for something she believed in, and that she was willing to stand up for herself, for what was right for her, even if it meant things would be more difficult.
I loved that, after a King and a Prince, we get a "real" Duke. This added to the fun of this book, and made it a little bit of a different contemporary romance, with a little bit of the regency/historical flair. And, it worked well.
There were a couple of parts that seemed a little rushed to me and a couple of places where I wanted a little bit more development before we moved on to the next thing. Not enough that I was not able to enjoy the book, but they were there.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and I do recommend the book.
USA Today bestselling author, Louise Bay writes sexy, contemporary romance novels - the kind she likes to read. Her books include the novels Faithful and Hopeful and the novella series' The Empire State Series, What the Lightning Sees and Calling Me. The novels and together the series are stand-alone although there are some overlapping characters.
Ruined by romantic mini-series of the eighties, Louise loves all things romantic. There's not enough of it in real life so she disappears into the fictional worlds in books and films.
Louise loves the rain, the West Wing, London, days when she doesn't have to wear make-up, being on her own, being with friends, elephants and champagne.
She loves to hear from readers so get in touch!

MAKING IT RIGHT BY CATHERINE BYBEE-BLOG TOUR
Some kids inherit a family business; Jo Ward inherited a badge. Once voted Most Likely to End Up in Jail, the town wild child has become sheriff—hell-bent on uncovering the truth about her father’s mysterious death. Life is quiet in rustic River Bend, but Jo longs for something beyond her small hometown and the painful memories it holds. All that keeps her sane is the support of her best friends, Melanie and Zoe.
But when Jo signs up for an expert law enforcement training seminar, she meets Gill Clausen, whose haunting eyes and dangerously sexy vibe just may challenge her single-minded focus. Commitment-phobic Jo can’t deny her attraction to the arrogant federal agent, and when odd things start happening around River Bend and danger surrounds her, she realizes she’ll need his help to discover who’s out to remove her from River Bend…permanently.
As Jo and Gill work together, it’s clear they make a great team. But can Jo loosen her grip on the past enough to let love in and reach for the future?
Catherine Bybee is a go to author for me. And, books like this one are the reason. I really enjoyed Jo's story, which was a surprise for me as her story was the one I wasn't looking forward to of the 3.
Jo was interesting. And, I loved the exploration of the idea that she was living her life possibly for someone else rather than for her. I think a lot of us are in the position of doing things, or acting in certain ways, because of the expectations of others, or the expectations we place on ourselves because of the influence of others, because we think it is what they want us to do. I loved that this was explored in the guise of jo following in her father's footsteps (don't worry, really not a spoiler as this is something that comes up throughout the book).
I adored Gill. There was just something about him that made him incredibly appealing. I think a lot of it was how much he just plain adored and respected JoAnne, as he calls her. There is an appeal to a story that features a hero who just plain adores the heroine. And, it lets him get away with challenging her, and with calling her out, without losing the respect of the reader, as you know he thinks she is great.
As always, the book is well written and well paced. I would have liked a little less of the "murder mystery" but at the same time, I think it was important for the story of Jo as a whole, so I am not even positive that this was not well balanced.
There is an acknowledgement in the end of the book that is both heartfelt and rather funny, and, yes Ms. Bybee, I think ending it with a big fire would have left us readers with an ending we didn't love.
I recommend this book, as both a standalone and as the satisfying end to a series.

PLUS ONE BY ALEATHA ROMIG-REVIEW AND EXCERPT TOUR
A fun, sexy new stand-alone from New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.
He's sexy and confident, the kind of man every woman notices. You know, the one with the to-die-for body and panty-melting smirk. And then there's the way his designer suits drape over his broad shoulders and big...well, we've all heard the rumors, the ones that say he's up for any challenge.
But I can't see him that way. He's my boss—technically one of the owners of the company where I work—and definitely not in my league. Men like him don't notice women like me, and they don't date them.
And I don't date men like him.
Until that one time that I catch him in a compromising position when I'm also in need of a last-minute date for a wedding...and then it's not real. It's blackmail.
For one weekend, he's my plus-one.
Beautiful and unobtainable.
From the moment she walked into my office with those stunning blue eyes and crazy sensual curves, she's been on my mind. Three years and never once has she acted interested in me. Usually I flash a million-dollar smile and women fall to their knees, some literally.
Not her.
Then on the occasion that I agree to let another woman do that—fall to her knees—guess who happens to catch us?
It may not be the most conventional way to get on her radar, but I didn't get this far in business without knowing when to seize an opportunity. If this sexy little firecracker with perfectly kissable lips thinks she can blackmail me into attending her cousin's wedding, I'm going to jump at the chance to be her plus-one.
You love her darker side. Now it's time to meet Leatha, the lighter side of Aleatha, as she trades her renowned twists and turns for laughs and love with this sexy new stand-alone romance, PLUS ONE.
I enjoyed Kimbra. I thought she was smart, sassy and fun. She has some insecurities-who doesn't-and watching her overcome them throughout the story was great. She's the type of character I'd want to hang out with in real life.
If I had a boss like Duncan I don't think I would have been able to resist him as long as Kimbra did. He was sexy and sweet and hot. He jumped at the opportunity to be her plus one-even if his motives were entirely different than what she thought they were.
These two had undeniable chemistry. I mean it just oozed off the pages as soon as I started reading. Which just made the times they were together even more fun. Definitely some fun sexy times in this book.
The supporting cast of characters in this book were fun. I think most people have family members like Kimbra so it was easy to relate to them. They definitely brought some added laughter for me.
This book was a light, quick read for me. My only complaint was something in the end that I felt got a little glossed over; an issue came back that I didn't think was fully addressed the way these characters would address it. But it didn't detract from the story overall. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
And, I liked it. Unfortunately, I did not love it. I wanted to love the heck out of this one, and I was excited to read it. While I can't say I was disappointed, I think I wanted a little more from this book. If that makes sense.
Let me try to explain.
Kimbra was great and mostly believable. I liked her from the beginning, and I loved that she was in HR but her job was respected (a little of my own personal life climbing into my reading, I admit). Her family was hilarious, and her grandmother was probably the best character in the whole story. You like her, and you want to see her get the chance to be the person she wants to be for her family. And, as you like her family, it helps knowing there is a genuine attraction between her and Duncan, as it never really feels like there is any deception.
Duncan was a little tougher to like. You meet him in a less than perfect way for the hero of a romance novel, once in a restaurant and once in the employee restroom (it was this meeting I was less than fond of) and one of my small issues with this book was the proximity in time of this bathroom encounter with him and another woman and his initial romantic/sexual encounter with Kimbra. They were too close together, for me, and there was a bit of an ick factor for me. I got over this fairly quickly, but it made him a tough sell for me.
The rest of the story moves along fairly well, and it is clear from his internal dialog that while Kimbra thinks she is "blackmailing" him, Duncan is along for the ride and is totally willing. This helped with his character, knowing that he was attracted to her and had been for a while.
Unfortunately, the issue with the pacing for this one appeared at the end for me again, and I felt that the event that got them back to Indiana was not all that reasonable and that things were rushed to the end of the book. I felt like I was bouncing from one "big" scene to the next without a lot of connecting pieces. But, that said, the scenes themselves worked and I did end up smiling at the end of the book.
Did I like this? Overall, yes I did. I liked the characters, Duncan more once we got to know him a bit, and the situations were mostly realistic. I think I was hoping for more, and while I did not get that, this is an enjoyable, "lighter" book by an author I enjoy.
I recommend this book.
I'm in an alternate universe and it's every fantasy I never knew I had. What CEO of a billion-dollar company dreams of enjoying a farm in the middle of nowhere? Who imagines waking in a small bedroom, complete with a canopy bed and sunshine streaming through pink curtains, as birds sing? What owner of a 7,000-square-foot penthouse with a to-die-for view of the Empire State Building enjoys the hominess of a hundred-year-old, 3,000-square-foot farmhouse with a wraparound porch, creaky floors, and a view of cornfields? Sitting with a cup of steaming black coffee, I listen as Kimbra and her brother Kevin bicker back and forth while helping their mother in the large eat-in kitchen. The warm spring air is filled with the sizzle of frying as the aroma of coffee, eggs, and bacon reminds me of some of the best diners in New York. Although Kimbra's dad, Oscar, is talking, I can't concentrate on anything but Kimbra—Kimberly Ann. That's what everyone here calls her. "Because of you, I'm out ten bucks." Kevin says, not doing a good job of whispering. "Me?" Kimbra asks. "What did I do?" Kevin tilts his head my way. "You brought a real guy here. I put money on him being made up." Kimbra reaches out and punches his shoulder. He lifts his hands in surrender. "No. Listen. I was sure it was a good bet. When Mom said your boyfriend's name wasn't Timothy, but Duncan, and you didn't want him in the wedding, Susan and I figured he wasn't real. I bet Jimmy ten bucks this fake Duncan guy would be a no-show. Susan and I were sure that before last night, you'd have some reason why at the last minute he couldn't attend. You know, like you’d make up some accident or something." Her brother is about as good at speaking softly as he is at being nice to his sister. "Shut up!" Kimbra whispers back. "Obviously he's real." Kevin's head falls back in laughter. "He's real, all right. Last night I thought your old bed was going to collapse." Kimbra's eyes flash to me. And though I look down at my coffee and pray her dad isn't listening, the gleam in her expression makes my cock twitch with the memories of the night before.

Hands down, my favorite thing in the world is to score. Touchdowns.
Don’t let the fact that I’m the leading pick in the Most Valuable Playboy charity auction fool you. These days, I’m only a player on the field. I’ve kept my pants zipped all season long — and it has been long — because nothing’s more important than leading my team to victory every week. Except maybe escaping from the owner’s handsy-as-hell sister who seems dead set on winning more than a date with me at the auction.
Enter Violet and a well-placed Hail Mary.
She’s my best friend’s sister with a smile as sweet as cherry pie and a mind that runs quicker than the 40-yard-dash. After Violet saves the day with the highest bid, I don’t even give her a two-minute warning before I kiss her in front of the whole crowd and then announce that she’s my girlfriend. Which would be fine except my agent tells me the next day that we’ve got to keep up the act while he’s negotiating my contract.
Violet says she’ll take one for the team and pretend to be mine, but our boyfriend-girlfriend scrimmage quickly turns into a full contact sport. And soon enough, I want this game with her to go into overtime. The problem is — I’ve been riding the bench for years.
