One kiss - that's all it took For her to go from off limits to my off duty lover. For years we worked side by side and in an instant everything changed in the best way possible. Jessica McBee was my best friend, my partner on the force and my only weakness. When Myla Hayes, the wife of the captain of the NY Otters hockey team, is being harassed, we have to work together to take down the suspect. But how can I let her be in the line of fire when I'm in love?

Whistler I would never forget the first fatality I had while on the job. It was staple gunned into my mind – plaguing me, haunting me. I watched as the life of a mother was snuffed out, feeling her last breath escape her lips in the freezing rain in the middle of the road. Early evening, in terrible weather with black ice covering the asphalt, my partner and I got the call. I had been on the job for only a few months – needless to say I was not prepared for what we were about to encounter. I was a young buck, fearless, ready to be the big bad hero – swoop in and save the damsel in destress. What a fucking joke that idea was. Up until that point, the worst that I had dealt with was a drug bust gone wrong were a UC was shot in the shoulder by a kingpin. That was child’s play compared to what I was about to witness. With lights flashing, my partner pushed the engine of our squad car to her limits – flying down the road to the intersection. It only took minutes and we were on the scene. Off in the distance, the whaling of horns and blaring of sirens signaled that the ambulance and firetruck were already in route to our aid. We were the first to arrive out of all responding units and I wished that that hadn’t been the case. The scene was what you’d expect from a damn movie. An eighteen-wheeler was jackknifed, slid off onto the shoulder with a four door Sudan plastered to its grill like a damn bug stuck in the grate. The entire driver’s side of the car was smashed in, the horn was blaring, the windshield was blown out. The driver had been expelled from the car, the passenger’s head was a bloody mess on the side window. Neither were moving. The truck driver whaled in agony as he frantically tried to open the cab’s door. “Sir! Try to remain calm!” My parented was a senior officer, he knew what he was doing. He sprang into action as I froze in my seat Get the woman!” Todd screamed at me as he flew out of the driver’s seat. “I’ll try to get the girl out of the car.” I rushed to the lady that was sprawled out on the frozen pavement, her limbs thrown about as she lay on her back, gasping for air. Looking down into her pleading eyes, I tried to figure out what to say. But, what do you say when you know that someone is fighting for their life? How the fuck are you supposed to comfort a stranger when they are dying right in front of you? “Ma’am. Can you tell me your name?” I asked trying to assess her injuries. “My daughter!” She cried, “Help Myla!” “My partner is with her. He’s got her. What’s your name? Can you tell me your name?” She started to gurgle as blood poured from her lips. Her skin drained of color. Her body shook. Her eyes got wide. I pulled her mangled, bloody body into my arms, rocking her while trying to comfort her last moments on this earth. “You’re going to be all right. The paramedics are on their way. You’re going to be all right.” I repeated it over and over until the EMTs were rushing to my aid. They were too late. She had slipped between the cracks. In pouring down, freezing rain, I felt her last breath leave her lungs. I watched as she blinked for the last time. I held her as she cried for us to save her daughter. In her last seconds, she was completely selfless. Her love for her daughter was at the forefront of her mind. That is true love. Right there, I learned what true love looked like in its final moments.

BEST MAN UNDER THE MISTLETOE BY JULES BENNETT - ARC REVIEW

Christmas wedding bells are ringing!

Everyone in Royal, Texas, now knows former special agent Gabe Walsh’s connection to the blackmailer terrorizing the town. And Gabe’s suddenly guilty by association. Worst thing is, Chelsea Hunt blames himfor the compromising photos of her that everyone’s talking about. But since he and Chelsea are planning the Christmas wedding of their best friends, Gabe has many opportunities to show the sexy cowgirl just what a good guy he really is. And apparently he’s pretty convincing, because she soon winds up in his bed! But is this just a holiday fling or the real thing?

Gabe and Chelsea have reason to not get along.  Gabe's uncle was the blackmailer, and that same uncle was responsible for sharing naked photos of Chelsea with the entire town.

So, understandably, there is some tension between them. And, there is also attraction, which makes the tension a little harder to navigate.  Add in the fact that they are the best man and maid of honor at the same wedding, and live in the same small town, and they are unable to avoid one another.

Good thing neither of them really wants to avoid the other.

Jules Bennett is a favorite author of mine, and books like this are the reason.  I enjoyed the pacing of the story, the characters and I loved the secondary characters.  They all blended nicely into the story.

This was a quick read, but one with depth and emotion.  I developed a connection to the characters and I recommend this title.

Things you need for a good Block Party:

1. Awesome food

2. Great Music

3. Fun games

4. A secret spot to hook up with your even-more-secret girlfriend.

Liam Edenhoff is a simple creature. He likes women, tacos, and sex. As long as he has those in his life, everything is good. He's finally realizing maybe he's just not cut out for relationships - surely there's got to be a woman out there who'd be okay with roof top margaritas, casual sex, and no attachments.

Enter a new neighbor - one who is allergic to commitment and prefers her sex casual but frequent. She's seen him at his worst and is still willing to play his games, on three conditions - discretion is a must, casual is key, and absolutely no drama. Sounds like the perfect arrangement. What could go wrong?

Famous last words when dealing with neighbors.

This story contains scenes of a graphic sexual nature, multiple uses of coarse language, and more tacos than is healthy or sane to read about. Reader discretion is advised.

This is the third installment in the Twin Estates series

Author Bio

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION BY KATEE ROBERT - ARC REVIEW

Scandal. Wealth. Power. Seduction. Welcome to the world of the O'Malleys.

Ex-cop Charlotte Finch used to think there was a clear line between right and wrong. Then her fellow officers betrayed her, and the world is no longer so black and white. Especially when it's Aiden O'Malley, one of the most dangerous men in Boston, who offers her a chance for justice. The only catch: she'll have to pretend to be his fiancée for his plan to work.

Aiden can't afford to let anyone see the man behind the mask. To run the O'Malley empire, he has to be cool and controlled at all times. But the moment he meets Charlie, they're playing with fire. Her slightest touch is enough to send him over the edge. At first their "engagement" was a way to eliminate his enemies. Now he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe-- even if he has to destroy his own family to do it.

Mafia books can be a lot of fun. The inherent danger, the idea that the hero is more of an anti hero and not that nice of a guy, but is still attractive, sexy and you like him...it makes for an interesting read.

Aiden is, well, not a nice guy. As head of the O'Malley crime family, he makes tough decisions and does things that seem to result in bad things happening...but he makes the decisions for the good of the family and for the good of the members of his family. He is surprisingly loyal, and has a big heart...which is a difficult thing to manage while running a crime family.

Charlie is an ex cop who doesn't want to fit into the life, who wants to dislike everyone there, and who doesn't want to feel the attraction she feels for Aiden. And, you relate to her. As, well, he is scary and the things he does, the things he condones, the things he justifies, are tough to be ok with.

But, she learns to first separate the crime boss from the man, and once Charlie does this, she sees how caring and loving Aiden is...and that is where the relationship becomes real.

I love that you get to know Aiden as a good man before you are part of the relationship. It does make for a slow build in the book, but it works overall.

I enjoyed this title and I recommend it.

HEARTTHROB BY KATIE MCCOY-RELEASE BLITZ

Title: Heartthrob
Author: Katie McCoy
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: November 28, 2017

Blurb

Move over, Colin Firth - there’s a new Darcy in town!

Jax Hawthorne is Hollywood’s sexiest bad boy. I’m a glorified secretary who thinks color-coding my library is a wild Friday night. So when he shows up after all this time wanting to make good on our childhood deal to tie the knot, it’s not because he can’t resist my perfect credit score.

He needs a fake girlfriend to rehab his reckless image, and I’m the (safe, sensible) girl for the job. I would be insulted… if the proposal didn’t come with an all-expenses-paid trip to England while he shoots a new movie version of ’Pride & Prejudice.’

Goodbye, my dumpster fire of a dating life. Hello, steamy nights with a chiseled hunk who knows all the right moves.

Soon, I’m knee-deep in the English mud - and on-set drama. But all our fake-smoldering is getting my very real panties in a twist. It turns out, Jax is so much more than just a reckless playboy. He makes me want to forget our ‘arrangement’.. and break all the rules.

Can our pretend romance turn to something real? Or will scheming actresses, control-freak PR crews, and a pesky little thing called love ruin the best (fake) relationship of my life?

Find out in the hot, hilarious new romance from Katie McCoy!

Fake relationship books can be fun. The 2 people in the relationship are always convinced it is the best possible option, or at least they think it is going to work and that no one is going to get hurt, or fall in love, as they both know the relationship is fake.

It never works that way. And, really, that is the whole point.

Jax and Penny were friends as children, and then they grew apart. Seeing one another was an accident, or fate, depending on the way you look at it. So, the fake relationship idea seemed to solve his problem and worked nicely with Penny's current situation in her life.

The story, from there, moves to London and the English countryside. It was charming and lighthearted. You get to know Jax as both an actor and as a man who is not quite realizing why he is so attracted to Penny, not really understanding that the way he feels about her is so much more than how he feels about a friend.

He figures it out, and it is a lot of fun watching him do so.

I also really liked Penny. I thought she was realistic and that she acted in the way that you would expect someone to act in this situation. Was she star struck by the Hollywood things? Yes, she was. But, if it is was new to you, this is exactly how you would react. I believed her, and I believed Jax as a character.

I thought the plot and the pacing was well done and the story moved from scene to scene in a way that left you feeling like you got the things you needed from each scene before it moved on.

It was a little predictable, but at the same time, there are certain things that have to happen in a fake relationship story so a lot of this was expected.

I enjoyed this title and I recommend it.
