Once upon a time...

Remember the fairy tales your parents read to you when you were little?
These are NOT those fairy tales.
From modern day royalty to metaphorical dragons, contemporary castles to sexy heroes, these bestselling authors twist tales as old as time into something new.
GLAMOUR contains eight exclusive never-before-seen novellas that each have an HEA... because they all lived happily ever after.

Anthology titles are difficult to review, as they are all different and by different authors. That said, this one was wonderful, hot (Sierra Simone, WOW, but I already told you that) and Nicola Rendell, well, just as fun as always. Those were the standout stories for me, although I enjoyed all of the stories in the book and would definitely recommend it.

I loved the idea that they were based on fairy tales, but more modern and with a slightly more erotic take on them than I remember when I read those tales as a child. But, this makes them fun and it also makes them into a unique retelling that is more than just the normal retold or modernized version of a story that essentially has the same plot. Did that make any sense?

Probably not, but I know what I mean, and you will too when you read it.

I definitely recommend this title.

Wow, just wow. This collection of fairytale retellings is so hot, sexy and steamy that I thought my kindle was going to melt-or maybe *I* was just melting. This anthology features work from some authors that I love so I jumped at the chance to review it.

Were all of the stories what I was expecting? Absolutely not-and I loved that. I loved seeing these authors put their own spin on things, spins I would have never considered (I'm looking at you Sierra Simone-holy hell) in a million years.

There were some authors in this anthology that I haven't read before and this offered a great peek into their writing style. Do I expect that all of their books are written like this? Not necessarily, but this gave me a good sense of character development and flow from each author.

I would definitely recommend this anthology. There is a story in there for everyone-if you find one you don't love? That's ok! Try the next one. There's some funnier ones (Royal Mattress) and some darker ones but as I said, there's something for everyone. I recommend this sexy, steamy anthology!

Seducing Lola by Jessica Prince Publication Date: July 18th, 2017 Genre: Contemporary Romance

Seducing Lola, an all-new romantic standalone from Jessica Prince is LIVE!!

Seducing Lola front cover high res

I’ve had my fair share of bad relationships. I’ve dated liars, cheaters, shoe fetishists, and everything in between. Sure, these experiences would make any woman cynical when it comes to dipping her toe back into the dating pool, but I used my past for good and made a career out of helping other women avoid going down the same paths I had.
And I was damn good at it.
Until a random act of fate set my life on a course I’d been avoiding for years, and put me in the crosshairs of a man that made me feel things I swore to never feel again.
Now I’m in his sights and it seems like he’ll stop at nothing to seduce the hell out of me. He might hold my career in the palm of his hands, but if Grayson Lockhart thinks he can blackmail me into submission with his sexy voice and sexy hands and sexy everything, then he’s…probably right.

Seducing Lola was my first book from Jessica Prince and it was a fun read. This definitely is a romantic comedy, with some heat tossed in there. I was chuckling throughout and definitely swooned a bit over Grayson. The book definitely delivers on what's hinted at in the blurb.

I liked Lola. I liked that even though she didn't believe in a fairytale ending for herself she wasn't jaded enough to judge people who DID find their happy ever afters. She's a straight shooter and I loved that she wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Her relationships with her friends and family were fun to read about as well. There were some moments where I wanted to shake some sense into her BUT I also understood where she was coming from.

Grayson? Well, he's a hot, sexy, alpha male....with a touch of tenderness. Who wouldn't love that? I love how determined he was in all aspects of things; that quality is a real turn on for me. Grayson definitely had me swooning.

These two have such a great dynamic. The banter and the sexiness just WORKS for them. Their sexy times are hot, just the way I like them. The way they play off each other is great. I was hooked on them from their very first meeting.

Let's talk about the secondary characters here for a second. Sometimes in a book the secondary characters can overwhelm the main couple. There were a couple spots in this book where I wondered if that was going to happen because I LOVED the supporting characters so much. I was invested in them and wanted to see what happened to them-hopefully that means Ms. Prince will tell us their stories.

This was a quick read for me, and a fun one. I look forward to seeing what this author writes next. I recommend this book.

About the Author:

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That's why God created central air, after all. Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy--she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says. In addition to being a wife and mom, she's also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books--romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it's a passion...there's a difference. Not that she'd expect a boy to understand. Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

HOT VALOR BY LYNN RAYE HARRIS-RELEASE BLITZ

Title: Hot Valor
A Hostile Operations Team Series Standalone
Author: Lynn Raye Harris
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 18, 2017

Blurb

They told him she was dead. They lied…

Colonel John “Viper” Mendez is having the second-worst day of his life. Accused of using the Hostile Operations Team to assassinate a foreign official, he’s gone from being a respected military black-ops commander to a fugitive in the space of an hour. On the run, hunted, and stripped of his honor, Mendez has nowhere to go—and few people he can trust.

Russian spy Ekaterina “Kat” Kasharin is a carbon copy of the woman Mendez once loved. Twenty-one years ago, Valentina vanished from his life. Kat claims to be her twin—but Kat’s lying. Ordered by her superiors in Russian Intelligence to abandon the man she loved—or watch him die—Kat had no choice but to obey.

But twenty-one years is a long time to love a man from afar, and Kat won’t stand by as a traitor plans his death—even if it means risking her heart and her life to save him. She can never reveal her true identity—or the secrets she keeps locked away. Secrets he would hate her for. Working with him is strictly business, and she won’t let emotions get in the way. But the attraction between them is smoking hot—and it’s not long before they’re burning up the sheets.

When the truth comes out, the mission implodes. Everything Mendez thought he knew was a lie. He’ll have to pull it together though before a deadly foe succeeds in taking away all he loves. By the time he realizes Kat might be most important of all? It could be too late to save her…

John and Val/Kat were together 21 years ago, and their relationship ended with what he thought was her death. Well, she is not dead and the reader learns this immediately, and honestly, so does John although he spends a lot of time in the book fighting not only the attraction he feels to her, but also the fact that deep down he knows exactly who she is.

I liked the push and pull that was created, the attraction, and the reason they both had to question it and to fight it made sense.

As always, these books went from the action of the central couple to the Hostile Operations Team, and in this case, the leader was the one being hunted. I found the action fairly well balanced. Toward the end, the focus on the suspense/action subplot made sense, and the more romantic focus in the middle also made sense.

I can't decide if I feel that John was able to get over Val/Kat being alive too easily or not, but I think it worked, partly as he really doubted who Kat was from the beginning, and so I think the confirmation of that worked.

I enjoyed this title, I was happy to see them get their HEA and I am looking forward to the next one.

Katya had dropped her backpack and fished out guns and ammunition. She was currently checking her weapons. She looked up at him, one delicate eyebrow arching. Her beauty was a grenade to his brain. A lightning rod to his cock. He wanted to fuck her and it pissed him off. He’d been with her less than eight hours and he wanted to strip her naked and make her scream his name.

He hadn’t had sex in months now, not since he’d broken it off with Sam. He wasn’t the kind of man who could walk into a bar and pick up a woman for a night of casual sex. At his rank, and with his job, it wasn’t wise. Foreign governments sent spies for just such occasions. Seduce the commanders, get information. Happened all the time, even though it seemed like a plot out of a bad spy movie. He’d seen it more than once. Idiots who should know better had their heads turned by free pussy—and lost their careers over it.

Therefore, he did not fuck around lightly. Even when the sexual drought took its toll and he was so sick to death of his hand he couldn’t even work up the enthusiasm to jerk himself off.

“Where did you find this place?” Katya asked.

He dragged his brain back from the brink of a full-blown waking fantasy. He’d been about to undress her and see if she tasted as hot as she looked. See if she had a fucking scar on her left thigh. He still wasn’t convinced that she didn’t.

Safer for her if she didn’t. Safer for him, too. Because he’d go fucking ballistic if she had that scar. If she was Valentina instead of an identical twin. He couldn’t even imagine what kind of person she’d have to be to lie for twenty-one years. To let him think she was dead and buried.

“We’re safe here, don’t worry,” he said roughly.

“That’s what I thought at the other place. Turns out it wasn’t true.”

“We won’t be here long.”

She shot him a questioning look. “Really? Where are we going?”

“You’ll know when we get there.”

START ME UP BY MAGGIE RILEY-RELEASE BLITZ

Title: Start Me Up
Author: Maggie Riley
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: July 17, 2017

Blurb

He's arrogant, sexy and aloof. And now I have to write his book.

Jack Willis is every bit the start-up prodigy—seriously smart, inventive, and totally sexy. With his incredible mind, extraordinary body, and a bank account with more zeroes than you can count, he would give the sharks from Shark Tank a run for their money. Everyone from Wall Street investors to drooling house wives wants a piece of him. Everyone except Libby Hanson, that is.

Libby Hanson is a crafty, curvy bombshell, more accustomed to macrame and crochet than fine dining and stealth engineering. She reads, she writes, she drinks wine with her cat...and she's never even heard of Jack Willis until she lands an interview that will change her life forever.

Jack needs a book written—and fast. His sexy new car is about to be released on the market, and a New York Times bestselling book would be the perfect marketing push to get his business to the next level. He could have any writer he wants: but he wants Libby. She's feisty, gorgeous, and has a way with words like nobody else.

To write his book, Libby has to see everything he does. She gets thrust into a brand new world of A-list red carpet events, meetings with executives, and long nights in the workshop that grow increasingly intimate. But to write a bestseller, Libby needs more. Their connection is off the charts, but she'll need to discover the real Jack—the man behind the inventions, the man who's steadily stealing her heart. Jack has secrets—lots of them—and Libby will do anything to get the scoop. With Jack's true nature coming to the surface, Libby finds herself torn—will she expose the man everyone is dying to get the dirt on? Or will she protect the man she is slowly but surely falling for?

The premise of this book caught my interest. It's a concept I haven't really given much thought to-ghostwriting that is-so I was intrigued to see how that would play out. I'm also a fan of opposites attracting, and the blurb definitely tells us that Jack and Libby are two very different people. This added up to a fun, quick read for me.

I chuckled over Libby and Jack's introduction to each other. I feel like the first meeting (or at least the first meeting the reader sees) sets the tone for the couple in the book. To me, Libby was a step behind Jack the whole time in their meeting, giving him a slight advantage. That advantage continues as these two work together as he holds part of himself back.

I really wanted to like Jack-and I did. I love a smart, sexy man who can make me swoon. For me, the swoon just came a little later than I wanted. He's a little closed off which just makes you want to know more about him.

Libby is just a burst of color in Jack's muted world. Which is great. She shook him up for sure, which he desperately needed. Some might think Libby is somewhat eccentric and I could see that but she's just loveable. I adored her and loved getting to know her in the book.

I liked these characters and I did want them to be together. There were times I was frustrated with them, yes, but overall I really did root for them. I do feel at times their conflict was a bit overblown, that Jack was slightly too harsh but they worked through it. I honestly loved the ending-like heart melted loved.

Overall, this was a quick, fun read. I would recommend this book.

The blurb for this title caught my interest. I enjoy the office romance trope, and when it is a boss and an employee, this can be a lot of fun, with a side of the forbidden and with dire consequences if they are caught. (Ok, so I am a little twisty, go with it) So, I went into this with a lot of high hopes.

Jake and Libby have interesting chemistry from the beginning, however it is all in their heads. There's nothing acted on, there are scenes where they are nice to one another, but no awkward "almost" moments.

There is not a lot of interaction with them in the romantic or even attraction for a while into the book, but you know how they each feel as their internal dialog gives you the thoughts and feelings for the characters. And, the book really relies only on this internal dialog.

In a way, this made it more of a "tell" rather than a "show" book, which can be a tough read as there is a lot of the characters telling you how they feel but not a lot of emotion to connect to, so there is a lot of the book where you don't feel a lot of connection with the characters. And, I think the book does suffer a little for this lack of showing action. The dialog, both the internal and the spoken, are well done and well written, so there is some advancement of the plot and relationship through thoughts and conversations. The issue is that the thoughts speak of a growing attraction, whereas the dialog is professional, bordering on friendly.

I did like the characters together, and I did believe in their chemistry, although I felt the switch from co-workers to lovers was a little abrupt, again I think because the pre-relationship stuff was all tell and the show started once they got together.

This felt like 2 different books, the before as boss and employee (even though I never really considered her an employee, they needed to meet somehow) and after, once they were involved in the relationship.

For me, the show being in the 2nd act and the tell being in the first left it a little unbalanced. I didn't totally dislike the book, and I did end up enjoying it overall, but I would have liked a little more connection with the characters at the beginning.

“You have no idea what I do, do you?” I asked her point blank. No point beating around the bush for much longer. And I was curious how she’d react. Most people would stutter and immediately deny their lack of knowledge.

I wasn’t surprised when Libby’s reaction was different. Everything about her was different.

She laughed, the sound a little nervous and a little sheepish. “I don’t, I’m sorry,” she confessed. “I don’t like to come so unprepared, but I’m afraid no one was very forthcoming with details about the job. Just that someone needed a ghostwriter.”

“Only you didn’t know who that someone was,” I leaned back, watching her.

I couldn’t help it. There was something about her that captivated me. And I was the kind of man that paid attention when my gut told me to. I wouldn’t have gotten as far as I had if I hadn’t developed a pretty damn good set of instincts. And my instincts were saying that Libby Hanson deserved a closer look.

Two red spots had appeared on her cheeks. “I’m afraid to say I didn’t know who you were when I walked in. And I still don’t.”

Even my name hadn’t sparked any recognition. Either Libby had been living under a rock for the past few years or she just didn’t travel in the kind of circles that discussed the latest tech inventions. Or the latest millionaire gossip mill. It was incredibly refreshing. Everyone else I had interviewed for the ghostwriter job had nearly fallen over themselves, quoting other articles or pieces that had been written about me, trying to impress me. And that was if they were men. If they were women, they tended to start batting their eyelashes and making unsubtle attempts to display various body parts. Even though it had been happening for years – ever since my name and photo were on the cover of Forbes – I still couldn’t get used to women throwing themselves at me with such aggression. I’d always been lucky with the ladies, but the fame and the money made it out of control. I didn’t like fawning, I just found it annoying. And I really didn’t want to work with someone who was going to try to flatter and butter me up, even if it was for the sake of the book. A book which I had been loathed to do in the first place. I hated talking about myself. I wanted to talk about the work, about what I wanted to accomplish, not which supermodel I was rumored to be dating or all the money I was making. My personal life was just that – personal. And I intended to keep that side of me out of the press and out of this book.

Which is why I found Libby’s lack of information appealing, and I saw the opportunity to avoid the usual pitfalls I often found when being interviewed. She didn’t know me, didn’t know my reputation. She would be able to approach this book without any preconceived notions. Without any agenda. It could actually be about the work, and not about me.

For the first time the book didn’t seem like the worst idea ever.

“You’re hired,” I told her.
