The Prenup by Lauren Layne - ARC Review

The Prenup is set to be THE romantic comedy hit of the summer! Perfect for fans of Jo Watson, Lindsey Kelk and Sophie Kinsella.

My name is Charlotte Spencer and, ten years ago, I married my brother's best friend. I haven't seen him since.

Charlotte Spencer grew up on the blue-blooded Upper East Side of Manhattan but she never wanted the sit-still-look-pretty future her parents dictated for her. Enter Colin Walsh, her brother's quiet, brooding, man-bun-sporting best friend, and with him a chance to escape.

He's far from Charlotte's dream guy as but they need each other for one thing: marriage. One courthouse wedding later, Charlotte's inheritance is hers to start a business in San Francisco and Irish-born Colin has a Green Card.

Ten years later, Colin drops a bombshell: the terms of their prenup state that before either can file for divorce, they have to live under the same roof for three months.

Suddenly this match made in practicality is about to take on whole new meaning...

SEEING RED BY SANDRA BROWN-ARC REVIEW

#1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sandra Brown delivers her trademark nonstop suspense and supercharged sexual tension in this thriller about tainted heroism, cold fury, and vengeance without mercy.

Kerra Bailey is a television journalist on the rise, and she's hot on the trail of a story guaranteed to skyrocket her career to even greater heights: an interview with the legendary Major Trapper. Twenty-five years ago, the Major emerged a hero from the bombing of the Pegasus Hotel in downtown Dallas when he was photographed leading a handful of survivors out of the collapsing building. The iconic picture transformed him into a beloved national icon, in constant demand for speeches and interviews--until he suddenly dropped out of the public eye, shunning all members of the media. However, Kerra is willing to use any means necessary to get to the Major--even if she has to wrangle an introduction from his estranged son, former ATF agent John Trapper.

Still seething over his break with both the ATF and his father, John Trapper wants no association with the hotel bombing or his hero father, and spurns the meddling reporters determined to drag them back into the limelight. Yet Kerra's sheer audacity and tantalizing hints that there's more to the story rouse Trapper's interest despite himself. And when her interview of a lifetime goes catastrophically awry--with unknown assailants targeting not only the Major, but also Kerra--Trapper realizes he needs her under wraps if he's going to track down the gunmen before they strike again . . . as well as discover, finally, who was responsible for the Pegasus bombing.

Kerra is wary of a man so charming one moment and dangerous the next, and she knows Trapper is withholding evidence collected during his ATF investigation into the bombing. But having no one else to trust and enemies lurking closer than they know, Kerra and Trapper join forces and risk their very lives to expose a sinuous network of lies and conspiracy running deep through Texas--and uncover who would want a national hero dead.

Really, what do I say?  This was Sandra Brown, and she did it again.  I was engrossed from the 1st chapter, I was up too late reading, I finished in about a day, and I didn't want to put it down.  Do I have other books on my list with a sooner publication date?  Absolutely.  Do I have the willpower to allow a Sandra Brown title to sit on my Kindle, unread? No.  No, I do not.

All true, and it happens every time I read one of her titles.  She is just that good.

Bombers, crazy killers, conspiracies, family dynamics that will take years of counseling to straighten out.  It's all in here.  And, it works.  The plot, the writing and the pacing are tightly constructed and you believe what happens to the characters.

And, like she often does, her hero isn't the best...or so it seems at first...for a romantic hero.  Your introduction to him leaves a lot to be desired, and Trapper doesn't seem to care.  Kerra knows she should, she know she should not be attracted to Trapper (John) a down on his luck private investigator who had been fired from his job with the ATF.  But, he is the son of her "hot get" interview target, so she tests him...leaves him a photo, tells him he is going to need a magnifying glass, and waits. He doesn't disappoint, and what you get is a chase across Texas, a couple of corpses, a stolen vehicle or 2, and enough twists and turns that you aren't even sure where the heck you are but you know you have enjoyed the heck out of the ride.

I have joked, more than once, that by the end of the Sandra Brown book, once the characters get their HEA, and they did in this like they always do, that all of the characters are going to need therapy.  Yeah, that's probably the case for this one too, but what a ride.

Was there a HEA? Of course there was.  Ms. Brown tells a heck of a twisty story, but at the end, it's a story about people, about redemption, about a second chance, and about a way to come back to who you were and be a little better off on the way there.  Kerra and John get their HEA, and you believe it. They are going to be a couple for the long haul., although their life might be a little boring going forward, comparatively.

Oh, and for the "gotcha" moment that happens in every book?  Oddly enough, there was nothing that left me absolutely stunned until the end.  I actually found myself thinking that, while there were quite a few jaw dropping moments, that the "OMG did that seriously just happen" wasn't going to be in this book.  And, it was like Ms. Brown heard me...because GOTCHA.

Ms. Brown got me good.  And, I never saw it coming.

I recommend this book.

SINFUL LOVE BY LAUREN BLAKELY-REVIEW

Intense. Devoted. Protective.

Michael Sloan is all of the above, with a hard tough edge to boot. He's not the guy he used to be. Years ago, before all the s&%t went down, he was laidback, carefree, and even happy-go-lucky.

Life changed him. Hardened him.

There's one woman though who can break down his walls. Someone who knew him then. Who can reach inside to that heart he protects fiercely...because she's the only one he ever gave it to. When they collide, it's tender and savage, gentle and rough, and makes them both hungry for more of this electric, once-in-a-blue moon kind of sexual chemistry. But it's a battle of wills between Michael and the woman he loves, with words and emotions held close to the vest.

She doesn't believe she can ever move on from her own heartbreak, but when Michael makes her feel for the first time in years, it's both thrilling and scares the hell out of her, setting off all her flight instincts. He's determined not to lose her again, but he'll have to learn to let her in if he ever wants to fully heal from the past...

The problem is, she knows something about the night his family shattered. She has the missing puzzle piece...but neither one of them realizes it.

YET.

SINFUL LOVE is the fourth and final book in the steamy, sexy, suspenseful New York Times Bestselling Sinful Nights series from Lauren Blakely, author of the wildly popular Seductive Nights series...

I loved it. This was a second (third?) chance romance at its best. If you can read this without falling a little in love with Annalise and Michael, you weren't paying attention.

The background info on Michael and Annalise quickly lets you see that they are approaching their reunion with similar fond memories and feelings of when they were together, but from a different perspective. Annalise, you discover quickly, was married and her husband passed away. Michael has always been in love with Annalise.

Michael is intense, passionate and so afraid of losing Annalise again that he is reluctant to tell her how he feels. But, after an amazingly sweet discovery on her part, he confesses all to her right before she gets into a cab to head back to Paris...although at that point, they have already decided to allow what they have to continue, an option that was not realistic when they meet as 16-year olds.

While we wait for Annalise to admit she loves him, and is more than "falling" for him, Lauren Blakely gives little clues as to how Annalise feels, like watching him sit, holding his wine, and talking to her family...you see how she feels before she tells him.

The entire book is just good. You just feel for both of them, your heart aches for them, and you don't want it to end.

THE CAD AND THE CO-ED BY PENNY REID-BLOG TOUR

sbpr-cad-coed-bt

The Cad and The Co-Ed, a quirky and sexy romantic comedy from Penny Reid & L.H. Cosway is available now!!

thecadandco-edcover
THE CAD
Bryan Leech is a cad.
Or, he *was* a cad.
No one is quite certain.
Once the quintessential playboy, Bryan claims he’s done with wild parties and weekend benders. No more one night stands leading to mornings he can’t remember; no more binges and blackouts; no more exploits plastered all over the tabloids and rag sheets. According to Bryan, he’s cleaning up his act.
The only problem is, no one believes him.
THE CO-ED
Eilish Cassidy never thought she’d be a mother at nineteen or still in college at twenty-four. Cut off from every member of her family except her favorite cousin, she’s finally managed to put her life back together. Stronger and wiser, Eilish enters her last semester of university determined to stand on her own. Now she just needs to find an internship.
The only problem is, her best option—by far—places her directly in the path of her son’s father, and he doesn’t remember her at all.
THE PLAN
Bryan is determined to prove he’s changed. Eager to settle down with the right woman, he’s got his sights set on the gorgeous redhead who seems terribly familiar.
Eilish is determined to hide her secret. She’ll do anything to keep her child safe, even if that means ignoring her own wishes and desires.
But what happens when Bryan starts to remember? And what will it take for Bryan to convince the girl he forgot that she’s unforgettable?

I'm a huge fan of this series and was eager to get my hands on the third installment.  Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway never fail to make me laugh, shake my head and swoon with their characters and The Cad and the Co-Ed was no different.  This second chance romance had me hooked from the start.

I wasn't quite sure I was going to like Bryan the way I've liked the other heroes in this series-but I was wrong.   I loved that he was determined to change for himself-not for anyone else.  It was refreshing to see that he was changing BEFORE knowing about Eilish and their child.  I also loved his pursuit of Eilish. He wasn't about to let her slip away again.

Eilish was a great, strong heroine.  She was a fantastic mother on her own, continuing her education all while being cut off from the majority of her family.  Her character has such quiet strength and determination, I just loved her.  I couldn't stand most of her family but that just made me love Eilish all the more for sticking to what she knew was best for her and her son.

Kids are tricky in books for me but I love, love, love how the authors portrayed Patrick.  He was simply adorable. He wasn't thrown into the story just as a plot point and brushed off-and I appreciated that.

I enjoyed watching Bryan and Eilish figure things out together.  The authors really pull you in to these characters, you're invested in their outcome and HOW they get there, not just what the outcome actually is.  The supporting characters are amazing as well. This book can absolutely be read as a standalone but I love the entire series.  It's always fun for me to see glimpses into past characters.  I can't wait to see sneak peeks back into Bryan and Eilish's relationship in future books.
