Waking a monster from its sleep is never a good idea.
Skye Carter is as normal as normal can be. But when she chances upon a man in the basement of an abandoned Hollywood Hills house, she's suddenly playing tour guide, and introducing a fifteen-hundred-year-old vampire to this century. And who even knows what’s going on with her teeth.
The truth is, immortality can get old—which is why Lucas Thorne went to sleep for seventy years. But he’s back and ready to take on undead enemies and friends alike. In a world where threatening creatures roam the night streets, he's the most dangerous of them all.
I have said it before, and it remains true here; I am not a huge fan of paranormal, but toss in a few vampires, and I can't wait to read the book. Not really sure what it is about them, but I love them.
This book is listed as a vampire romance, and it definitely is...nothing but vampires in fact, but I have also seen it with references to being violent and in the more horror genre...and, I see why, but at the same time, I can honestly say from a blood, gore and horror standpoint, this is a pretty typical vampire book.
Skye and Lucas are fun. He is old and, well, grumpy. He has reasons.
Skye has a hilarious inner monologue, and sometimes commentary to others, and through events of the story that I won't detail here, is a wonderful person to not only tell the reader about what is happening, but view them with a somewhat irreverent, and very amusing, take on the things she is witnessing.
The pacing of the story really does have the vampire-y (that might not be a word?) things happening as the focus and the romance does feel like it's second to a lot of those things, but the focus does shift to the romance toward the end of the book, which makes sense for the story.
I believed in the connection between Skye and Lucas and I definitely believed that they would end up with one another.
I hope there are other books in this universe, as there are definitely other stories that can be told about some of the people you meet as secondary characters in this title.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.
