Malone is the total package. He's smart, sexy and oh my God so swoon worthy! I'd totally be a Good Man Groupie (can I get a tshirt of that, please?!). I wasn't kidding when I said Malone is mine. Don't get me wrong, I love all of this Author's heroes-how could you not-but I had a favorite for years and Malone knocked him off his perch! Malone can take me to Tahiti anytime...
I loved seeing how we got Sloane's perspective in this book, since it really is told from Malone's POV with just a smattering of Sloane's insight. She's sweet and funny and definitely holds her own with Malone.
These two have such an intense connection. It's palpable from the moment they meet again right through the very end. Their banter was top notch and it just flowed beautifully. Their sexy times were definitely kindle meltingly hot. There is a scene here that I literally said YES out loud during because it was so realistic and it made me chuckle. I won't say why exactly, but it's something I haven't read in a romance but something that I know occurs and so it just made this story all the more real.
The supporting cast of characters here are an absolute blast. I loved seeing some old characters pop up (they literally made me smile every time) and I definitely was intrigued by some other characters who I know are getting their own story later. But none of them overshadowed Malone and Sloane. They supported without overpowering. Now, I will say I groaned at Doug a time or two, but all good naturedly!
This book just flowed. I was enthralled from start to finish. I truly felt I was transported with these characters...and I'll say Malone can take me to Tahiti anytime.
I have to talk about the audio performance of this book because it is PHENOMENAL. Pure perfection. Jason Clarke and Andi Arndt have brought these characters to life. The weaving in of music is a brilliant touch and I'm so incredibly blown away by Jason Clarke's talent. The story was brought into another dimension with this performance.
If I could give this book more than five stars I would. It definitely deserves it. This second chance romance is full of the heart, heat and humor that I adore from Lauren Blakely. Believe me when I say this title MORE than lives up to its name. I absolutely LOVED this book from start to finish and can't wait to see what this Author gives us next.
In Lauren Blakely's hands, of course they are dating and sparks flew for the 2 of them when they initially met, and then he got a new job...with a vet who also happened to be Sloane's father as a partner.
Apply. The. Brakes. Full stop. Do not pass go...and all of the other ways you can think of to say bad idea.
But, what happens to attraction when it sparkles and sizzles from the first meeting? Well, obviously it just goes away, right? Wait, I am totally wrong...and, the fact that years pass and the connection is still as strong between them adds a level of fun into this entire story.
Also, at one point, there are quotes from Hamlet..but the cat version (trust me, it's the best thing ever) and you know that these are people who are meant to be together.
There's a twist to this one, and it's "a thing". Although, I can't begin to tell you what this is as it is honestly delightful and handled in such a way that you are cheering for them to resolve this thing almost as much as Malone is cheering for it to be resolved for Sloane.
As is always the case for a Lauren Blakely title, this one is totally enjoyable. You like the characters, you like the cats and assorted animals in the story that appear as he is a vet and animal lover and she is starting an animal rescue. So, there are cats and other creatures all over this title...and, I admit, I learned a few things about flirting with a hot vet from the women who frequent his practice...while dying of laughter, that is.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.
Oh, and before I forget, the author is giving a portion of the proceeds of this title to animal rescue organizations. Generally, this isn't something that would be mentioned in my review, as all charitable giving is awesome and generally done from the heart...however, as this is a cause also close to my heart, I wanted to mention this here.

I meet Sloane’s gaze then go for it. Because this night has only one destination. “We should go to Tahiti.”
“Tonight?”
“Too long a flight?”
She lets go of my hand and holds up her thumb and forefinger. “Maybe a little. Not that I’m turning down a trip to Tahiti. Wait? Are you saying you want to take me to Tahiti? Because I can pack like that.”
Smiling, I slide my hand to her ass, squeezing. I whisper roughly in her ear, “I’m saying I’d like to escape with you. Like we’re getting away for the night. Let’s fuck away all this hot, wild desire.”

I brush the backs of my fingers along her jaw. “We already failed that test.”

“Didn’t work. You’re the opposite, and I want you so fucking much.” I press against her. “You have me so wound up. I’m pretty sure you’re wound up too.”
She pushes back. “You know I am. You know I want you too. That was never the issue.”
I have to get closer to her. I need to have her. “Let’s give in. Just once.” I slide my fingers into her hair, she leans her head against my palm, and I continue making my case. “I can take you places. I can make you feel extraordinary, like I’ve always wanted to.”
She hums. “You’re making it hard to say no.”
“True. I’m very hard to resist.”
A smile spreads across her face. “You are, Malone. You’re terribly, impossibly hard to resist.” She nibbles on her bottom lip. “One night. Our secret. What happens in Tahiti stays in Tahiti.”
“Absolutely,” I say as my dick high-fives me.
“And where is this alternate universe?”
I curl my fingers around her hip bone. “My place isn’t far. There’s also a hotel down the block. Either way, I intend to strip you naked, get my lips all over you, and make you feel as fucking good as you looked when you were watching me sing.”
She shudders. “I looked good when I was watching you? How so?”
