She is The Controversial Princess.
Regarded as down to earth by the press and rebellious by The King, Princess Adeline refuses to bow to the royal expectations her title carries. She knows better than anyone that the united front of the royal family is nothing but smoke and mirrors – lies and secrets masked by power and privilege. She wants no part of it, and she will never surrender to The King’s demand to marry a man she does not love. But despite Adeline’s determination to retain her free will, she remains deeply unfulfilled, feeling caged and suffocated.
That is until she meets Josh Jameson. Drawn in by his confidence, Adeline is soon captivated by the scandalously sexy American actor. His ability to penetrate her defences overwhelms her – his touch is pure fire, and his allure overpowering. Nothing has ever made her feel so alive in a world where she’s otherwise slowly drowning. However, while Josh may be Hollywood royalty, he’s not actual royalty, and Adeline knows The King and his advisors will do everything in their power to keep them apart.
But Josh Jameson becomes the princess’s ultimate vice.
And although she bows to no one, she bows to him.
Adeline is a princess, but she is one with a family who doesn't understand her who wants more from life than royal duty, but she is afraid to reach for that love and relationships as she is convinced that when she does, the people she has become close to her will be taken from her because they are not suitable.
Being misunderstood and a princess is complicated, and there are so many expectations placed on her, and that the family not understanding her makes her life feel like a gilded cage, and one that she wants to escape from, but also feels loyalty to her family and her role as a princess.
So, she has what she is convinced will be a short fling with Josh Jameson, an A-list Hollywood actor. But, he isn't willing to go away, and he isn't willing to only be a fling. So, he pursues her, and he convinces her that it is safe to fall in love with him as he is not going anywhere.
This book is angsty. It's a story of 2 people who are fallin gin love but can't, because of who they are and the fact that both of their lives come with complications that are not easily resolved.
But, the heart wants what it wants, and in this case, Josh and Adeline want one another, and they are in love, and the only thing that can keep them apart is something that happens that changes the whole dynamic of their relationship.
This book is well written, the emotion of the characters comes through clearly, their desires, their frustrations, their love and adoration for the people around them and the frustration of 2 people who are being denied the thing they want most of all, one another.
I recommend this title and I can't wait to see what happens next.
