ONLY YOU BY MELANIE HARLOW-EXCERPT REVEAL

Only You, an all-new sexy and emotional standalone from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow is coming March 12th!

Synopsis

Nate Pearson is ridiculously handsome and wears the hell out of a suit and tie, but I’ve seen the parade of beautiful women leaving his apartment across the hall—a different one every time—and I want no part of it. When it comes to romance, I’m looking for something real, something that will last: the happily ever after.

As a divorce attorney, he loves to tell me there’s no such thing.

As a wedding planner, I choose to disagree.

We disagree on almost everything, in fact. Everything except James Bond. The only time we really get along is when we’re watching 007 flicks together, and I’ll admit—he has rescued me from a disaster or five. So when one of the baton twirlers from his parade leaves a baby girl at his door with a note that says “I’ll come back for her” and he begs me for help, I can’t turn him down.

But it’s a mistake.

Because watching him with his daughter, I start to see another side of Nate, a side that has my breath coming faster, my body craving his, my heart longing for him to change his mind about love and tell me there’s a chance for us.

I don’t want to be just another girl leaving his apartment in the morning.

I want to be the one he asks to stay.

“You know, even an alpha male can have feelings occasionally.” “Oh?” She crossed her arms and leaned back against the counter, giving me the evil eye. “Yes. He doesn’t have to be hard as granite all the way through, all the time.” Don’t think about being hard. Don’t think about being hard. Don’t think about being hard. I leaned back against the opposite counter and sort of held my glass in front of my crotch. “Why are you even concerned with alpha males? You’re never attracted to them.” “What? Yes, I am!” “No, you’re not.” I knew her type well. “You’re always saying how you don’t want to be rescued, you want someone willing to show affection and talk about feelings, you don’t like arrogant or competitive guys or guys who always have to win, you like guys who get along with everyone—” “What’s wrong with that?” “Nothing. But that’s not an alpha male.” She chewed her bottom lip. “But look at Bond. Who is he so worried about protecting? Why is he so driven to kill the bad guys? There must be people he cares about more than himself to put himself in harm’s way so often.” “Maybe he just likes the thrill of the chase.” “Maybe he’s more selfless than you think.” “In this case, I think we’re going to have to disagree.” She sighed heavily, and I knew I had disappointed her by ending the argument in a draw instead of winning or losing it. Any other night, I might have kept it going, but there was something odd going on with me, something that had me wanting to close the distance between us, set her up on the counter, slip my hands beneath that fuzzy white sweater she had on, see what her legs felt like wrapped around my hips. But I knew better. Get her out of here before you do something stupid. “Hey, you got fortune cookies? I didn’t see those.” She reached for the little cellophane bag. “I forgot about them.” “Can I have one?” “You can have them both.” She took one out and cracked it open. “A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not why ships are built.” “Very deep.” She ignored me and went on to the next one. “You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens.” Her lips pursed. “Hm. I don’t want a dangerous ship or a broken heart.” I laughed at the anguish in her tone and expression. “It’s not funny,” she said, shoving pieces of cookie in her mouth. “It means I’m doomed to be unhappy. And then I’m going to die in a shipwreck.” “It means you take things way too seriously.” I tipped back the last of the bourbon in my glass, and set it in the sink. “Well, I’ve got an early morning at the gym tomorrow.” She popped the rest of one cookie in her mouth and brushed off her hands. “I’m going. What time is it anyway?” I checked the digital clock on the microwave. “It’s 11:11.” Her face lit up. “Ooh! Make a wish!” “What?” “It’s 11:11, you have to make a wish.” She closed her eyes for a couple seconds, her lips moving as if saying a silent prayer. Then she opened them. “Did you do it?” I laughed. “No.” “Nate! Hurry up! Make a wish.” She glanced at the clock and flapped her hands agitatedly. “I don’t have a wish to make.” “So make one for me, then. And do it fast, before it’s 11:12.” This time it was my turn to roll my eyes, but secretly I wished that the next guy she fell in love with would love her back the way she deserved, and she’d be happy. But I didn’t close my eyes, and I didn’t move my lips, so she had no idea whether I’d made a wish or not. “Did you do it?” She looked concerned. “Yes.” “For me?” “Yes.” Her mouth fell open for a second. “What was it? What did you wish for me?” I started to laugh as I left the kitchen. “Nice try, Calamity. Even I know you don’t tell a wish if you want it to come true.” The credits were still rolling on the television, and I picked up the remote to turn everything off. “Oh, now you believe in wishes?” She sat down on the couch and tugged on her fluffy boots. No, I wanted to tell her. I don’t, because I learned a long time ago that wishes and prayers and hopes don’t mean anything. No one is listening. But I didn’t tell her that, not only because she was looking up at me with my favorite expression of hers, the one daring me to fight back, but because at that very moment, I heard a noise in the hall. A strange and oddly terrifying noise. I looked over my shoulder toward the door, thinking I must have imagined the sound. Then I heard it again—the unmistakable, ball-shrinking, cringe-inducing sound of a baby’s wail.

Melanie Harlow likes her martinis dry, her heels high, and her history with the naughty bits left in. When she's not writing or reading, she gets her kicks from TV series like VEEP, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and Homeland. She occasionally runs three miles, but only so she can have more gin and steak. Melanie is the author of the AFTER WE FALL series, the HAPPY CRAZY LOVE series, the FRENCHED series, and the sexy historical SPEAK EASY duet, set in the 1920s. She lifts her glass to romance readers and writers from her home near Detroit, MI, where she lives with her husband, two daughters, and pet rabbit.

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

White Knight is a standalone in the same world as King of Code, with it's own beginning, middle, and end. You don't need to read anything else to read White Knight.

Each time I go to write a review of a title by CD Reiss, I find myself thinking that I want to talk about how beautifully written the book is, how it flows perfectly, how the scenes don't seem to end but rather flow into one another naturally.

And, well, I guess I just did. The writing draws you in, it makes you feel like you are part of the story, and that this is a story about people you could meet on the street. By the end, you feel like you could sit down with them, have a conversation, and have things to talk about.

Catherine and Chris were one of those couples who are kept apart by a decision when they were young, and commitments that came from that decision, which left both of them feeling that the lives they now live no longer fit the people they were when they were together before, and that their romance is better left in the past.

Watching them work this out, and figure out that it was possible for their lives to meet in a place where moving forward together, was a lot of fun and a very enjoyable journey.

I recommend this title.

white knight AN KU.png

I crossed the train tracks, looking both ways as if the freight ran on a thoroughfare. It was a few steps to the rows of mobile homes that defined that side of Barrington. The playground was in a little clearing just west of the center of the trailers. My fingertips were cold, but the rest of my body thrummed and pulsed so hard that I made my own heat. I told myself I didn’t know what to expect from this meeting, but if I didn’t know what to expect, I knew what to hope, and they were pretty much the same thing. “Catherine!” Chris wasn’t loud, but the excitement in his voice made him sound as if he were shouting. “Chris?” I spun around, looking for him in the darkness. And on a three-quarter turn, he crashed into me, all lips and hands, digging his fingertips into the muscles of my back as he pulled me close. I tasted the minty toothpaste in his mouth and thought he brushed his teeth for me. He kissed me as if he would never kiss me again. He kissed me as if this was the last kiss he would ever have in his life. As if he wanted to eat me alive. I’d given over my freedom and my choice to this thing with him, to this moment, to this stupid set of choices that would ruin me forever. As surely as the sun would rise, I was the designer of my own destruction. I wanted to be destroyed by that kiss. When Chris took my hand, I imagined I could feel the blood pulsing through the veins, the cells in his skin. I imagined that when my nerve endings vibrated at his touch, they connected to his somehow. Everything felt new. I was discovering that my body had routes between one place and another that I never knew existed. I never knew that when a man touched my hand or kissed my nipples, I could feel it between my legs. There was a click behind the tree line, and he stopped kissing me with a jerk. We froze long enough for him to smile.

About the Author

_21A6258_pp-fbCD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

THE WOMAN LEFT BEHIND BY LINDA HOWARD - ARC REVIEW

Jina Modell works in Communications for a paramilitary organization, and she really likes it. She likes the money, she likes the coolness factor—and it was very cool, even for Washington, DC. She liked being able to kick terrorist butts without ever leaving the climate-controlled comfort of the control room.

But when Jina displays a really high aptitude for spatial awareness and action, she’s reassigned to work as an on-site drone operator in the field with one of the GO-teams, an elite paramilitary unit. The only problem is she isn’t particularly athletic, to put it mildly, and in order to be fit for the field, she has to learn how to run and swim for miles, jump out of a plane, shoot a gun...or else be out of a job.

Team leader Levi, call sign Ace, doesn’t have much confidence in Jina—who he dubbed Babe as soon as he heard her raspy, sexy voice—making it through the rigors of training. The last thing he needs is some tech geek holding them back from completing a dangerous, covert operation. In the following months, however, no one is more surprised than he when Babe, who hates to sweat, begins to thrive in her new environment, displaying a grit and courage that wins her the admiration of her hardened, battle-worn teammates. What’s even more surprising is that the usually very disciplined GO-team leader can’t stop thinking about kissing her smart, stubborn mouth…or the building chemistry and tension between them.

Meanwhile, a powerful Congresswoman is working behind the scenes to destroy the GO-teams, and a trap is set to ambush Levi’s squad in Syria. While the rest of the operatives set off on their mission, Jina remains at the base to control the surveillance drone, when the base is suddenly attacked with explosives. Thought dead by her comrades, Jina escapes to the desert where, brutally tested beyond measure, she has to figure out how to stay undetected by the enemy and make it to her crew in time before they’re exfiltrated out of the country.

But Levi never leaves a soldier behind, especially the brave woman he’s fallen for. He’s bringing back the woman they left behind, dead or alive.

Linda Howard has always been a favorite of mine.  Some of her titles are more romance, and others are more adventure, but I always enjoy them.

In this one, the adventure, the Go Team and the training for it, is the focus.  I enjoyed the idea of a woman in the training for the teams and the push and pull between getting her trained and making sure that she was physically able to handle the rigors of the training.

Jina and Ace are attracted to one another from the start, but as he is her team leader, he is not willing to allow himself to pursue that attraction.  It's an interesting issue, as there is a real reason that it is not appropriate for him to have feelings for her, and the tension of this is real...and it makes it an interesting "why they can't but want to" for a large portion of the title.

While most of the book is about them not being together, once they finally are, it feels like the entire book is focused on them, so the pay off for the waiting is definitely there and worth it.

I enjoyed this title and I recommend it.

MAKE ME WANT BY KATEE ROBERT - ARC REVIEW

“I want everything.”

She’s taking control. And it’s driving him wild!

Lucy Baudin’s ex did a number on her self-esteem, but it’s time for her to regain control. In her job as a lawyer she’s bold, confident. But in the bedroom she needs inspiration to reawaken her inner seductress. Asking her friend Gideon Novak for help seems wrong…yet so deliciously right!

The Harlequin DARE line are shorter, hot and sexy stories. And, they live up to their name.

Lucy almost married Jeff, Gideon's best friend. And, Gideon has been in love with her...forever. So, when she asks him to help tutor her in sex, well, he's all in. (That pun wasn't intended, but darn it, I am leaving it here.)

Is this the most original of storylines? No, but I enjoyed it. I liked the chemistry of Lucy and Gideon. I liked how obvious it was to everyone but them that they were meant to be together.

I enjoy books like this, where the characters are the last to figure out what is really right in front of them. And, when they are also hot and well written? It just makes it even more fun.

Was there a lot of plot? Nope...but there wasn't supposed to be. And this title delivers.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.
