book blurb

As the only female initiate of the elite undercover society, the Dark Alliance, former FBI agent Madeleine Blake has a lot to prove—especially to her former lover, Alliance operative Jack Grayson. Ever since joining Jack’s team, Maddie’s been keeping her distance, trying not to relive every moment they shared during their brief but passionate affair. Yet when a mission ends in tragedy, Maddie’s ready to walk away from the Alliance—and Jack—forever. That is, until Jack’s cover is blown, putting his life in danger and making it impossible for Maddie to deny her true feelings…

Before he met Maddie, Jack Grayson thought happiness was impossible for a man like him. After all, he has a price on his head that requires him to live in the shadows, concealed from everyone and everything he cares about. But now that they’re on the run for their lives and Jack has Maddie in his arms again, he realizes their love is the only thing in his life that’s real. And this time, there’s no way in hell he’s letting it slip away…

excerpt
Excerpt from Chapter 9 of Concealed (Dark Alliance #2)
Maddie made her way into the rotunda of the hotel that had once served as the Charles Street Jail. The amber light cast too many shadows, making it hard to make out faces. But there was one face she couldn’t mistake. Jack stood at the bar, looking heart-stoppingly debonair in his black tuxedo. It took more than a little effort to drag her gaze away and focus on the others milling about the rotunda.

“Do you have eyes on any of our companions for the evening?” Jack asked as Maddie nodded in greeting as she passed by an actor she recognized but whose name she didn’t recall.

The actor didn’t hide the fact that he was looking her up and down, but when he started walking toward her as if to engage in conversation, Maddie turned on her stiletto heel and headed in the opposite direction.

“Negative,” she told him. “You?” When Jack didn’t immediately respond, her gaze drifted back toward the bar and locked with his from across the distance. “Jack, do you copy?”

Jack took another sip of his wine, trying to disguise the fact that the sight of Maddie had made him momentarily speechless. She was lovely beyond compare—her thick dark hair swept off her neck into an elegant arrangement, long curls having slipped out to rest against the delicate curve of her throat. The little black dress she wore accentuated the curves he’d often enjoyed tracing gently with his fingertips. His fingers tingled at the remembrance of the nights they’d shared together and of how close he’d come earlier in the day to being able to caress her in the way he so longed to.

And he nearly had. If he hadn’t questioned her certainty about where things were going that afternoon, there was no question how far things would’ve gone. But he was determined not to push her into “falling into bed” with him again, as she’d put it. They’d rushed toward satiating their yearning for one another far too quickly before, and Maddie had bolted. He wasn’t about to make that mistake again.

So why did he feel like he’d fucked up by bringing everything to a screeching halt just as they were revving up?

“I’m here, Mads,” Jack murmured, a familiar ache in the center of his chest.

Regret. Ah, yes, he knew it all too well . . .

KISS MARRY KILL BY SIDNEY HALSTON-BLOG TOUR

He's been chasing a memory . . .

KISS, MARRY, KILL
Iron Clad Security #1
Sidney Halston
Releasing March 28th, 2017
Swerve

He's been chasing a memory . . .

It was just supposed to be a regular Thursday afternoon…and then he saw her. Sitting in seat L214, one seat over from his at the baseball game, right next to her douche of a soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend. An impromptu kiss for the kiss cam, and Jax knew his life would never be the same. Five years and a tour in Afghanistan later, Jax is back stateside running his own private security firm, Iron-Clad, with his best friend. He isn't the man he used to be... but Megan isn't the sexy and sweet, though sheltered, twenty-two-year-old he left behind, either. And she's in trouble.

...but now they're on the run.

Megan Cruz has made something of herself. She’s turned her dreams of pop stardom into a reality. But when a deadly stalker breaks into her home claiming to be her number-one fan, the only person she can turn to is the boy who got away. But Jax isn’t the same carefree charmer who stole her heart, then broke it when he joined the military. This man is seductive, hard, guarded. And he'll do anything to protect what's his.

I ended up liking this story a lot, more than I thought I was going to, actually.  And, I credit the author with this, as I usually really like Ms. Halston's writing and stories.

The idea of a celebrity who is being stalked falling for the bodyguard is, honestly, not new.  It was freshened up, a little, by the second chance romance aspect.  But, it was the way the second chance was handled, the slight difference in the way it played out years ago, that resulted in this one feeling more new and different than I was expecting.

Jax and Megan were both interesting and well written.  I was able to engage with both of them, and to understand what they were thinking.  This definitely matters in a second chance, as you need to be able to see why they made the decision to split and also why they were willing to make it work a second time, 5 years later.

I thought the resolution of the stalker thing was a little obvious, but not enough that it took away from the story, as that was really there to give Jax and Megan a reason to be together than for any real major suspense in their story.

I recommend this book overall and I am looking forward to the next ones in the series.

USA Today bestselling author, Sidney Halston lives her life with one simple rule: "Just Do It"--Nike. And that's exactly what she did.

After working hard as an attorney, Sidney picked up a pen for the first time at thirty years old to begin her dream of writing. Having never written anything other than very exciting legal briefs, she found an outlet for her imaginative, romantic side and wrote Seeing Red. That first pen stroke sealed the deal, and she fell in love with writing. Sidney lives in South Florida with her husband and children. She loves her family above all else, and reading follows a close second. When she's not writing, you can find her reading and reading and reading. She's a reader first and a writer second. When she's not writing or reading, her life is complete and utter chaos, trying to balance family life with work and writing (and reading). But she wouldn't have it any other way.

I JUST WANT YOU BY KAYLEE RYAN-RELEASE BLITZ

“Go to college,” they said. “Get a good job,” they said. “It will be a piece of cake.” Well, whoever they are, they lied. Sure, college was a blast, but after college, not so much. The finding a job to go with my expensive education, that part was not so easy. At least not until I was offered a position at the new club in town.

Life is defined by the little moments that have the power to change it completely. I never thought getting a cup of coffee would change mine, but it did. She did. She’s one of those moments.

He’s my boss.

She’s my employee.

I want him.

I can’t resist her.

There were parts of this I really liked and others that didn't totally work for me.

Berklee and Crew were young, and I knew that going into the story.  But at times, they were a little too young and naive.  It was great that he inherited money, but some of the time Crew was portrayed as he had no idea what he was doing, and others he was capable enough to handle overseeing the construction and opening of a club.

There were snippets where they were adults, and capable, so I was able to mostly overlook the parts where they came across as people who had no idea what they were doing and were to young to know this...It also helped that you liked both of them.  They were appealing, and fun, and came across as people you wouldn't mind spending time with.

I believed their chemistry.  I believed they wanted to be with one another.

And then the young issue got in the way again, and they didn't communicate.  Although, to be honest, this is an annoyance of mine in a lot of books...the situation created out of a mere lack of communication and assumptions.

I do overall recommend this book, even though there were parts of it that did not totally work for me, the characters were compelling and I enjoyed watching them work out their relationship.

HIS TO SEDUCE BY STACEY LYNN-BLOG TOUR

image001

An honorable man who’s lost his way . . . A career woman who hides behind her button-up suits . . . Unexpected romance is the specialty at the Fireside Grill as Stacey Lynn’s captivating series comes full circle.

Becoming an ER doctor had been David McGregor’s mission ever since he could remember. But after tragedy strikes at his hospital in Chicago, David runs away from the guilt—all the way back to Latham Hills, Michigan, where he takes a job tending bar at his childhood friend’s restaurant. That’s how he meets Camden Reed, and the way Camden refuses to give him the time of day should be a turnoff. Instead, he’s drawn to her tough, tightly wound exterior, and soon David realizes that he has a new mission: to see her tightly wound beneath him. Camden’s fighting tooth and nail to resist the desire she feels for David. Growing up dirt-poor, raised by a single mother, she worked twice as hard to get where she is today, and she doesn’t have any patience for the kind of guy who’d give up a decent paycheck to sling drinks. But when the sexual tension finally combusts between the sheets, Camden discovers that people aren’t always what they seem. As David pushes her past her limits, Camden begins to loosen up—and to trust that, when she falls, there will be someone waiting to catch her.

I'm a big fan of this series and have been waiting for Camden's story for some time. This book can be read as a standalone but I do recommend the series overall as well. This story tugged at my heartstrings much more than I expected-and that's saying a lot since I consider the other books in this series to tackle some emotional issues as well.

I liked Camden, I really did. I liked getting to peek inside her walls, finding out what made her tick even as it broke my heart. She closed herself off to so much so it was wonderful to watch David coax her back into the land of the living in a way nobody else had been able to. I did want to shake her at one point, but even then I understood where she was coming from.

I loved, loved, loved David. I loved how he pushed Camden out of her comfort zone all while still keeping his promise to her to keep her safe. I loved that it wasn't instant love between them, that we got to watch it grow and develop. And I loved that he was so supportive and caring-he was a pretty great book boyfriend.

I was invested in the happiness of these characters. I wanted them to be together. I wanted them to be happy. Based on their chemistry I thought they would suit and I loved watching them figure out just how well suited they were.

I enjoyed getting to revisit characters from the past-that's always a fun perk to me of reading a series. I feel like I could be in this group of friends. I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

David and Camden have been dancing around one another for a couple books now, and they finally get their story. And, at first I wasn't sure what I thought about the way it plays out, the idea that they are a vacation fling.

This ended up working for me, because while this was how Camden was able to allow herself to become involved with David, it wasn't where David was in their relationship.

The books with a secret one of them is keeping from the other can be a tough sell, as it feels their is a "lie" between them. In this one, the lie didn't bother me as much as the resolution did. I am not really able to get into it, as that would be a spoiler for the resolution of the story...but I was not really able to buy into the decisions David made with the path of his life. I just didn't think this would happen...or if it would, as there is likely someone out there who has done similar, it was too easy in the story.

This is the last of the books, so there was some narrative that was focused with the other characters, which was balanced nicely without taking away from David and Camden.

I do recommend this book, but with the minor reservation that I was not fully able to engage with the entire story ARC.

Excerpt:

“Please,” I whispered, and leaned into his palm now cupping my cheek. His hands were strong. Long, tanned fingers that had made me think of naughty things like this for months.

In the darkness, I saw a flash of his white teeth. “I like it when you beg. When you need me.”

Tonight’s need was selfish. A moment to forget the loneliness. A moment to take what I’d been too chicken to go after for months even though it was right in front of me.

He’d been right before my eyes, flirting relentlessly and trying to break me down. Tonight, I was tired of fighting the pull I’d felt for him despite how wrong I knew he was for me. This was one night. A moment of wildness I didn’t usually indulge in, but who didn’t enjoy getting laid at a friend’s wedding? It was almost a requirement.

His hands dropped to my knees, spreading them wide so he could step in between them.

His fingers teased my thighs, running up and down my bare flesh until I shivered from the softness of his touch.

My eyes were half-lidded when I forced myself to look at him. I saw only his lust for me, and my heart rioted against my rib cage.

Damn . . . he wanted me. It was as thrilling as it was terrifying.

One of his hands left my leg and cupped the back of my neck. He pulled me to him until our foreheads touched.

“I want this,” he said, his voice thick and gruff. “Tell me you want this.”

“I want it.”

“Tell me you want me.”

I couldn’t. A long time ago I swore to myself I’d never be vulnerable again. I certainly wasn’t about to make that admission when all I currently wanted was a night of pretending and forgetting.

“Camden, I want you to know that when I sink into you, when I push your panties to the side and run my fingers through your wetness, this isn’t a one-time thing for us. This is the beginning.”

I shivered again. From his words, his promise—something I so desperately craved but was too terrified to take hold of.

I shifted my hips, pulling him to me until his erection brushed against my center.

“Tonight.” I gasped as he rubbed against me in the perfect spot. “It’s all I can promise.”

He chuckled, moving his mouth against my cheek, down to my jaw and my throat. “We’ll see about that.”

SAY I'M YOURS BY CORINNE MICHAELS-REVIEW TOUR

  SIY Available Now

  SayYours Amazon

From New York Times Bestseller, Corinne Michaels, comes a new second chance standalone romance.

I spent twenty years waiting for Trent Hennington to open his eyes and see me. But it was all for nothing. He chose to keep himself guarded and let me walk away, proving that my time and efforts were wasted. I'm done being invisible. It's time to move on. A single dance sets my new reality into motion, and I welcome it. After all, Cooper Townsend is perfect. He's kind, sexy, and attentive--everything a girl could want. I thought I got it right this time. That my heart could mend, and I would be happy. Apparently, some things really are just too hard to walk away from.

I love second chance romances and I enjoy this author's work so when the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book arose I jumped at the chance.  I'm so, so glad I did.  With Say I'm Yours I was treated to a well written, emotional second chance romance that had me sighing and swooning all at once.

I truly liked and sympathized with Grace.  She's been in love with Trent for so long but wants more from him than he wants to give her.  She chooses to do something for herself, to try to move on, to get what she deserves and I applauded that.  It's not that she doesn't love Trent, she's just finally acknowledging that she is worth more-and that's such a hard thing to do.  It's easy to stay in a relationship that's comfortable-even if it's not what you truly want-but that's not what we get here.

Trent. Oh, how I loved Trent.  I wanted to throttle him at first-not going to lie. But oh how he won me over.  When he decides he's going to fight for Grace? You can't help but fall even more in love with him.  He was a great book boyfriend to have overall and offered up some of the swooniest lines I've read this year.  He's not perfect and there were some curves I didn't see coming but I loved him.

The small town this is set in is just fun.  I feel I could walk into that community and be at home and completely at ease.  It's just a fun place to visit-and I definitely will visit it again when I reread this book.

I loved this book and would absolutely recommend it.

This book was an emotional push and pull the whole time. Yet, somehow, I didn't feel as wrung out by it as I could have...I think because the author handles it really well. The balance of the angst, the funny, the situations that are cringe worthy and amusing at the same time (oh my that flat tire) all work well together to allow you to move forward with the story.

I loved the idea that Trent and Grace were a couple for so long, but that Grace felt they were through, that they had gone as far as they could with one another. I am not totally convinced on the amount of time she gave him, on how long she stayed. And, honestly, that is the one flaw I had with the book, that I had a little bit of an issue with the time-frame of her waiting for him to commit to their relationship. While it didn't necessarily interfere with the story, it was a bit of a stumbling point in the narrative for me.

I liked that she gives Cooper a chance, and I liked the resolution of this story, the idea that in order to move on, they both needed to see where their attraction would lead.

Another point in this book's favor is that I genuinely believed the characters. I thought they would react in the situations presented in the ways that they did. I believed his reaction to Grace dating someone else, the restrained anger worked, the jealousy, the possessiveness that comes from calling a person "yours" for so long and then all of a sudden they aren't.

I liked that we got to go through the emotions with the characters, that we were along for the ride and able to relate and understand the reasons for the decisions, which I think helped with the story. There were a couple of times where I thought Grace was being stubborn to be stubborn and I found myself a little irritated with her...but I am not able to say that a person in a similar situation wouldn't react in the same manner.

I definitely recommend this book.
