This book was a little different from the blurb led me to expect, and the place Samina and Devin start in was also one I was not really expecting.
Honestly, I felt that the plot was a little all over the place. Sami is an attorney, Devin is a judge, they have been married for 5 years, although it has been a secret, and they have been dating other people, and no one knows they are married...yet all sorts of people do...and she was running for Senate, but this isn't official yet.
So, in the middle of all of this, and the oddly disjointed stories about her in court, and Devin, and the Senate stuff, and the stuff with her parents and her money...I was supposed to believe that they have been married for 5 years, and that no one knows, but that they are on the verge of splitting up...which everyone seems to know.
I spent the majority of the book not totally believing what I was reading as the plot constantly made me side eye my Kindle. I did like the parts that were focused on Sami and Devlin, and their chemistry was interesting...but there was just too much going on with this one for me to fully become engaged. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't what I was hoping for.
I do recommend this title, and I do want to see what happens next as I am hoping, like with a lot of first books in a series, this one suffers from the need to set up the beginnings of too many stories and once those settle, the other titles will be more cohesive.
