It’s hard to write a review of a book without spoilers when, per the request of the author, the names of the characters are a spoiler. So, the details about the things that they face, or overcome, or encounter, well they would be a spoiler to someone who has read the other books. So, I am going to be really vague and avoid all spoilers.
I understand the reason, I do, and it is one of the things I enjoy the most about books by Kate Canterbary. She is willing to take characters who maybe aren’t the most sympathetic, who are flawed and have reasons for the reader to not like them, and they turn out to be the heroes and heroines in a great story.
This was no different. While I can’t tell you who this was about, I can tell you I really enjoyed the journey of this book, and getting to know both characters. I like characters who are not perfect, as I think they are more human. And both of these have that going for them.
That said, by the end of the book, I really enjoyed the story, the interactions of the characters and the glimpses of the other characters. You learn about her family, and about why she feels the need to be seen as someone’s first choice. You learn about past events in the Walsh family through his eyes, and I think it changes some of what you thought previously. But, getting to know a character is supposed to do that, and this book does it well.
This is the 7th book focused on the Walsh family and while technically a standalone, I think the reader would benefit from reading the books previous to this one to get the entire depth of the story. That said, don’t let this stop you from reading this, even if it is your first book by the author.
I recommend it either way.

Kate Canterbary doesn't have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean--Pacific or Atlantic--is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate.
