COVET BY ELLA JAMES-COVER REVEAL

Homer Carnegie. Admit it—you know my name. Your kid’s got my e-trading card. Your husband sits up straighter when I stroll onto the TV screen. He knows I’m going to crack the bat and save the day. Even your grandma’s jonesing for my autograph. But women my age? They’re the worst. Or would that be the best?

It’s not my fault they line up at the door. They catch my balls all right, two at a time sometimes, or even three. Believe me, everybody wins.

At least they did—until the video. I heard TMZ paid a million for a bird’s eye view of Homer on his A-game. The only folks who didn’t watch with eager eyes? Red Sox management. They want me benched, or worse, shipped off to rehab.

It’s a long story, what happens next. How I end up on a boat, bound for the world’s most remote island: Tristan da Cunha. Just a speck of dust in the Atlantic.

Except my heart is there.

I don’t know that when I step onto the boat.

I don’t know a lot of things.

What I’ll covet…

What I’ll lose…

THE PLAN BY ELLA JAMES-REVIEW

SYNOPSIS

You’ve heard this story before. Woman feels her biological clock ticking and gets someone to knock her up.

Not for love, for baby.

Crazy, right?

That’s what I thought.

Then I found out my fiancé had a vasectomy. The life I thought I had? Nope. Suddenly I’m 33, and I don’t even have a kissing buddy.

When my mom’s health takes a turn and I wind up back in my hometown of Fate, Alabama, I tell myself to leave things up to…well, you know.

Then I see Gabriel McKellan. He’s Fate’s most famous son, a bestselling author who is beautiful, complicated, and living just below me. In addition to his plus-sized brain, Gabe’s well-endowed in other ways, and great in bed to boot. I would know. He's my ex husband.

When I suggest The Plan, I don't imagine that he'll take the bait. It's been ten years, and we don't work. But Fate has other plans for both of us.

Marley and Gabe were married 12 years ago, the divorce left unresolved feelings on both sides, and seeing one another again opens those up...initially in the form of anger and hostility. This anger comes a little out of the blue, at least it did for me, as there is no reason to expect that particular welcome when she arrives in her hometown, and immediately I was intrigued as to where the relationship and the story was going to go, and how it was going to get there.

In this instance, as the story goes on, you find out the why of their relationship end, and you start to see it from both sides and from the view of each of the characters. Twelve years have passed and Marley and Gabe were in their 20s when they were together last time, and the lack of maturity and life experience that contributed to the break up come through in the story.

The sex is hot, and the relationship between Marley and Gabe is interesting, the way it moves from anger to a friendship to something deeper and finally to love, it works and you can follow it.

Unfortunately, I was not able to really connect with Marley or Gabe when they were not together. For some reason, they never felt like individuals to me. I was able to relate to them as people in a relationship, and to the people they were in the relationship...but individually I didn't feel that there was a lot there for me to feel like I knew who they each were in the absence of the relationship. I think this kept me from being able to fully engage with the story.

I did enjoy it overall, and I do recommend this title.

I'm a fan of Ella James and this blurb really caught my attention. Second chance romance and the possibility of a baby? Sign me up! Also, I have to admit I loved the idea of a town called Fate. I'm a sucker for cute small towns.

In the beginning of the book, I felt I could connect to Marley. This is a woman on a mission; she has a plan. She's not used to failing so this one goal that's she's trying so hard for-and not getting, is eating at her. So from that stand point I could understand her. But my connection didn't last as long as I wanted to with Marley; other than the goal I didn't quite connect to her as an individual.

The same with Gabe. I wanted more from him individually. I mean, he had swoon worthy moments (I can't deny the ending was a big swoon) but he wasn't quite what I was expecting.

There was passion between these two characters. When they were together I was rooting for them. That was when I saw glimpses of who these characters were and who they could be. The sex was hot and steamy. I did believe in the journey these two took together and in the resolution they came to.

This book definitely dealt with some harsh real life issues-which is great, it just wasn't something I expected. There were some twists and turns that I didn't fully see coming, which is always good. I thought it was well paced but just wanted more out of Marley and Gabe as individuals. Overall, I do recommend this title.

EXCERPT

I veer into the bushes, heading across the lawn toward the home’s rear right, where there’s supposed to be a staircase tacked onto the house’s back side.

“Not your walkway,” he says coolly.

“Figured that out,” I snap over my shoulder.

Hurt stings my cheeks and neck, prickles tears in my eyes. I whirl. “You are such an asshole! Always were. The biggest jerk in our class!”

“What was it, then, Marley?” He takes a long stride down the walkway toward me. “Oh, wait, I remember.” He looks pointedly down, and then back up at me with those electric eyes—and I know what he’s meaning.

“Jesus—you’re a pig!”

He smirks. “Only for you.”

“Fuck off.”

With those ungraceful words, I march toward the house I’m sharing with my ex-husband.

When I suggest The Plan, I don't imagine that he'll take the bait. It's been ten years, and we don't work. But Fate has other plans for both of us.

I climb inside the U-Haul and grab two small things first: my favorite Elvis lamp and a box of yarn and clay, easy pickings for my first trip up the stairs to my rented digs. Then I grab my purse off the truck’s rear ledge, step down, and—

“Oofh!”

I blink at the wall I’ve just slammed into, and there he is. At first, I think I’m seeing things. I blink a few times, fast, to try to magic him away. Hallucination. But…he’s not.

His curly hair is wild and dark, just like it always was. His blue-gray eyes—more blue, although he claims they’re gray—are just as sharp as I recall. His face is still so striking: dark brows over a stern, strong nose, and high cheekbones. My gaze skates over his rich mouth, and I realize I’d forgotten how handsome he is.

Gabriel McKellan is famous at least in part because he looks like such a god. The familiarity of him hits me like a ball of ice right to the gut, but where he’s different makes me warm. That stubble-beard, the way his jaw is sharper, shoulders thicker. My gaze skates down his white t-shirt, pasted over rigid abs. I note his forearms—thicker, tanned—before appraising jeans-clad thighs.

One flexes.

Shit.

My errant gaze jerks back up, where I find his features twisted in a scowl.

“What are you doing?” he asks roughly.

I blink. “What?”

Gabe’s brows pinch together, and he glares behind me, at the truck. “What are you doing here, Marley?”

I look around the quiet, leaf-strewn street, trying to explain not what I’m doing, but why I’m seeing him here. Nothing looks amiss, though. Nothing to suggest I’ve had a mental break.

“I’m moving back to Fate. Today,” I add, my voice a squeak above its normal octave.

Gabe’s foot taps the curb between us. Even barefoot, he’s a domineering prick. I inhale slowly, bringing my heart-rate down a notch, so I seem more gathered when I ask, “Where are your shoes?”

“Why did you park here,” he demands again.

“Because I’m moving in?” It’s not a question, but it sounds like one. I bug my eyes out in response to his mean stare. “What are you doing here—and where are your shoes?”

“My shoes are inside.”

I blink at the porch behind him. “Inside where?”

“Inside the house behind me.”

“What?”

Gabe’s head is still shaking, his jaw locked like an angry sentry.

“What the hell is this about?” My heart begins to pound. “Are you my greeting party?”

“I’m your warning party,” he says quietly.

“Warning me from what?”

“I live here, Marley. On the bottom floor.”

“But…you’re—”

“I’m living here.” His face hardens. “I think that means you need to close your truck and go.”

Is he insane? My head spins. Gabe can’t be… “You can’t live here,” I sputter. “You live in New York!”

For an instant, I feel sure this is a joke: a TV joke. Famous author/director shocks unknown ex-wife by popping up at her new place.

“Is there a hidden camera?” I ask lamely.

“No, Marley. There’s not. There’s just a house—with room for one.”

“Yeah…me.”

His lush mouth tightens. “I don’t think so.”

I laugh. “Oh—you watch.”

SLOTH BLURB:
Dear A. -
I am writing to express my gratitude for your gift. There are no sufficient words, but please accept my sincerest thank you.
Yours,
She writes me back.
I didn't expect that.
She tells me she's a lover of chicken pizza and video games, a hot sorority girl with the nickname Sloth. She wants to know something about me in return. She says I owe her.
This is how she saves my life. She doesn't even know it. We've never even seen each other. But I need a reason. Just one reason to continue. She becomes mine.
The anonymity is good. She doesn't need to know me, but I need her kindness. We both live our lives: a letter here, a post card there. For three years, I escape my demons. And then one day I'm pulled back in.
I've resigned myself to what I know is coming. Until the girl I'm spanking gives her safe word: Sloth.
And then the lie I'm living starts to unravel.
--
Sloth is a standalone love story with many twists, one huge secret, and a non-cliffhanger ending. It will wreck you, but you'll like it.
BTW: Part of the fun of reading this book is trying to guess the secret. I would appreciate it if you could avoid spoilers in reviews and review headlines, so others will be able to enjoy the guessing game.
*Sloth is part of a collection of standalones inspired by a sin, and centered around a huge secret. The other standalone, My Heart for Yours, is inspired by the sin of murder, and is the story of Kellan's oldest brother, Barrett Drake. It's free via Kindle Unlimited and also for sale here in the Kindle Store.
*This book was updated and re-edited in fall 2017, and now includes a bonus story.

MY HEART FOR YOURS BLURB:

FROM USA TODAY BESTSELLER ELLA JAMES...
Gwenna White's new neighbor is...distracting. He's a beautiful, motorcycle-driving enigma. One she can't allow herself to think about. Since the accident that ruined her face and stole her career, Gwen, a former model, lives under the radar, seldom leaving the bear sanctuary she runs in the Tennessee mountains. She's not reclusive, but that doesn't mean she's looking for a lover. Definitely not someone who looks like that.
*
Barrett Drake could use a friend: a tall order, since most of his are dead. His damaged hand may be the reason he's out of special ops, but it's not his only wound. Not by a long shot. All that's left between Bear and a new life is one last job. If he can hold on, get it done... He won't be here that long. Just long enough to ruin Gwen's life and make a speedy exit. That's the plan.
But things don't always go as planned.
You can't choose who you love.
You can't fix fate.
And that's the problem...
*My Heart for Yours is a standalone forbidden romance with a hint of mystery. It's the second stand-alone in a collection of books that are inspired by a sin and centered on a huge secret. This book is inspired by the sin of murder. It was formerly sold under that title.
*The other novel in the Sinful Secrets collection, Sloth, is a USA Today bestseller and can be read free via Kindle Unlimited.

FRACTURED LOVE BY ELLA JAMES-ARC REVIEW

I was sixteen when he came to our house. Landon Jones, a boy with nothing, from nowhere. He had cinnamon hair and blue eyes—light blue, just like mine. When we went out as a family with my foster brother, people asked if Landon was my twin. He wasn’t. That year, we found out how much he wasn’t. When my parents caught us, they threw Landon out like trash.

Now I’m twenty-nine, a soon-to-be surgeon, like my mom and dad. I know residency is going to kick my ass, but I had no idea that it would rip my heart out, too. Not until I see him—Dr. Jones.

Thud.

Angst.  So much angst.

My heart was in my throat for so much of this book.  The beginning, as is so very Ella James, was so taboo and so compelling.  You are drawn into the story of Landon and Evie.

There were parts at the end that had me teary, and there were parts at the beginning that had me gasping and hurting for the 2 people who really hadn't done anything wrong, for parents who wanted to do the best they could, and for a whole bunch of people who really only made the best decisions they could at the time, even if in hindsight a lot of hurt was the result.

I especially love his statement at the end about how this love is something you just have to make work, because the other choice isn't ever going to be ok. Choices, those that are big, with consequences, that seem right at the time, that you question later while struggling to remember it was the right one at the time.

EJFracturedLoveLIVEThis is what the book is about, at it's core.  About people who want to be together, who should, but who have life getting in the way.  It's about the choices you make, not knowing there is another option, sometimes because it hasn't presented itself yet.  It's about fate, about the fact that if you are meant to be somewhere, or with someone, that you will eventually end up there.

It is with Evie, with Landon, her parents, his family, the choices they all make.  The idea that life itself often gets in the way of life is really at the core of this story.  And, that sometimes life knows best, that sometimes the decisions you make were actually the right ones, because another decision could have ended up worse, or could have led you in a different direction, so you ended up somewhere totally different.

This book is not an easy read.  it's emotional, it's gutting, it leaves you dying to know what happens next.  But, it is powerful, and beautiful, and well written.  I wanted a little more time with Landon and Evie in the "now" but overall the book works well, and it is enjoyable...albeit an angst ridden read.

I recommend this book, just make sure you have a few hours, as you are not going to be able to put it down, and tissues.  You are going to need them.

Well, this wasn't quite what I was expecting-but by no means am I complaining! These characters tugged me into the story right from the beginning of the book and I was simply captivated. I know this is a story that will stay with me for quite some time.

I love how this story flowed. I loved meeting teenage Evie and Landon. I thought their backstory was heartbreakingly beautiful. I could FEEL the longing, the desperation they felt for one another. Their connection was there for them the moment they meet, no matter how hard they try and fight it. I did have a bit of an issue with what kept them apart-for 11 years, mind you, BUT I believe the way things were handled when they were teenagers is exactly how a family MIGHT handle things, right or wrong. I'm not spoiling it by telling you what exactly happens there, trust me you'll want to read it.

These two have such an emotional journey to go on. There are so many issues for them to work through but you can't help but root for them. I cried for them-multiple times. This is definitely a read to have the tissues ready for, in my opinion. My heart broke in this book but each time, these characters stitched it back together in a way that only they could.

I don't want to spoil this book in any way. Are there some things that might seem cliche once you see the events fold out? Maybe, but again, these situations REALLY work for these characters. It gives them a chance to grow and mature, both separately and together. The connection between them never really goes away and you can see that from the moment they see each other again.

This isn't my usual kind of second chance romance love. I'm not a huge fan of angst, I can get enough of that on the news, but the amount of angst in this book? It just worked. The tears I cried over these two were totally worth it in the end. I recommend this book.
