It started as a game. She was nothing but my pawn.
But I was quick to see the error in my ways, and now she is everything I never knew I needed.
The value of a woman like India Baptiste is beyond measure.
But the problem with being a man like me? I’ve already screwed this up, and there’s no guarantee India will take me on for one last bet.
I'll do whatever I have to do. Drop to my knees and offer her the only thing I have left. The one thing that’s only ever been hers—the heart of the devil.
This is the 3rd book in the trilogy. If you are here and you haven't read the others, step away from the Kraken and just keep going. If you have, read on and enjoy.
First, let me start of with how much I need to take back all of the mean things I thought about Ms. March at the end of the 2nd one (and, let's be honest, the end of the first one and every other book she has written that has a cliffhanger) because Indy and Jericho got their perfect ending. Yes, we all saw it coming, but sheesh did she make them work for it.At the beginning of this title, I was dying to know what was going to happen and how they were going to get Jericho out of the mess he was in at the end of the 2nd book. And, the sequence in which this was dealt with is one of the most compelling scenes of it's type that I have ever read.
I can't get into a lot of detail without spoiling the heck out of the book, but I LOVED at how wrong I was about what was going on, who was responsible, and how it was going to all play out. Now, don't get me wrong, there were parts of it that I totally was right about...but others? Nope, didn't see that coming, did think it might happen. Nope. Not once. And, wasn't that some of the best possible fun of reading a book?
I also loved the settings. I have been to Monte Carlo, and some of the other places in the story, and the settings make the entire story come to life in the most perfect way possible...it makes me want to play poker (first I would have to learn to play poker, details) and drink a Vesper martini (that I have done) in that casino. Any book that can bring me back to a place as clearly as this one does is impressively well-written.
I enjoyed this title and I recommend it...Kraken and all.
