YOU PROMISED ME FOREVER BY MONICA MURPHY - ARC REVIEW & BLOG TOUR

You Promised Me Forever AMAZON.jpg
I’ve got it all, they say. I’m the starting quarterback for the best NFL team in the league. I’m rich. I’m famous. I can have any woman I want, any time I want.

Yeah, I’ve got everything—except for the one who got away. How do you move on from loving the same girl since you were in the seventh grade? She promised me forever until forever got too hard and at nineteen, she dumped me.

By text message.

Now she’s walked back into my life. Just as beautiful. Just as sweet. Just as smart. More grown up and incredibly sexy…

We’re older now. Supposedly wiser. This time, I’m going to fight for what I want, no matter how hard it gets.

This time, I’m going to make her mine.

Forever.

Jordan and Amanda have a past, a history, that neither has really forgotten about. They have moved on, mostly, but both still linger a bit in the past and on the hurt from the past.

So, a virtual conversation, a meet up at one of his games, and an attraction that hasn't dimmed is what they are left dealing with.

I enjoyed this title, but I think I wanted more. There was a lot of hurt in the past, but they seemed to move right past it. There's a scene where he tells her how he intended to react when he saw her for yje first time in a while, but he doesn't react that way...and I think this is how I felt about this book. It was a series of scenes that could have been really intense, that could have drawn me in, but actually left me feeling like the characters took the easy path.

I did still enjoy this title, and I do recommend it overall... ...but it left me wanting more.

Excerpt:

Jordan
Of course, I’m not going to shake Amanda’s hand.
Instead I grab hold of it, that unmistakable jolt of electricity sparking when our skin connects, just like every other time we’ve touched. I pull her to me and wrap her up in my arms because I can. I’m the one who offered up the tickets so I could…what? Show off? Let her know exactly how great my life is?
I can’t lie. My life is pretty damn great. I have everything I could ever want—except for one thing.
“Hi Jordan,” she breathes against my neck, and I swear she melts into me a little. Like she can’t help herself. Like we somehow still fit together even after all these years.
Either she got smaller or I grew bigger since the last time I touched her, and I’m guessing it’s the latter. She smells familiar, yet different. Better. I recognize the scent of her shampoo, but nothing else. Her hair is longer. Thick. Dark and wavy, up in a ponytail and a little disheveled, like she’s had a long day. Her body is curvier, something teenaged Amanda would’ve never believed could happen. She still has those sexy long legs, though.
Finally, she pulls away from me, her lips curled, her eyes sparkling, nervousness written all over her face, and I watch her carefully in return, my expression as neutral as I can make it. Honestly, I’m still a little pissed over that garbage game we just played, and I’m tense like I usually am after. Her understanding gaze meets mine and I know she knows what I’m feeling. We’ve always been in tune with each other…
She’s my Mandy, all grown up. But not my Mandy anymore.

JUST EXES BY CHARITY FERRELL-RELEASE BLITZ

Blurb

Lauren

Running into an ex you haven’t seen in nearly a decade is never a good time.

Running into your ex while he’s arresting you is humiliating.

The handcuffs close around my fists at the same time he promises to hate me until he takes his last breath.

I can’t blame him. He pleaded for me not to walk away. He doesn’t know leaving him broke my heart as much as it did his.

It wasn’t for me. Rather, it was for someone else.

Gage

I skipped town after Hurricane Lauren obliterated my heart.

Coming home was a hard choice to make. Arresting her isn’t.

She has no idea of the demons I carry with me now. No idea that I’m a new man.

Two women ruined me.

One I gave my heart to.

The other punished me for it.

I liked the blurb of this book. I really thought it was going to be a little twistier with their relationship than it was.

Lauren and Gage have a history, and a nasty break up, and now he hates her. So, even though it seems clear there is more to the story, he arrests her for arson. So, here is an interesting set up for an ex lovers to enemies to lovers story. And, it really worked, at least the parts that revolved around him putting his life together.

There was also another element to this, and telling all is a spoiler although you do figure it out pretty quickly. That said, while it was interesting, I didn't think enoughtime had elapsed from the event to now for him to act toward it in the way he does. I know this makes no sense...but basically, when a character in a story has a trauma, for it to be a past trauma, it needs to be far enough in the past that I at least believe the character has been through the 4 stages of grief. I wasn't convinced here.

I did, however, enjoy this overall.

OVER THE EDGE BY CD REISS - ARC REVIEW & BLOG TOUR

BT-Edge-Banner.jpg

“This series grips you by the throat and refuses to let go—and you’ll be begging for more the entire time.” — Sierra Simone, USA Today Bestselling Author

over-the-edge-four-final.jpg

The epic conclusion to the intense and dark Edge Series.

Limits tested.

Boundaries shifted.

Descend into sanity.

------

This is Caden and Greyson's final story.

For 3 books I've been saying I'd do a full review once I got to the last one, because of spoilers. I've promised this in every review.

And, now, at the end of Caden and Grayson's story, I'm still not able to make the leap into a full review. There's too much to say; too much to deconstruct and too many darn areas for all the spoilers to live.

This book is well written, well constructed and just plain works. The end is satisfying, if a tiny bit heart stopping for a bit, and the ride getting here was intense and twisty and dark.

This book isn't happy, (although as it's a romance there is a happily ever after) but neither are the others. It's a twisty ride through a relationship and humanity and the things that drive us and make us who we are. It's about what we think, and believe, and how we react, and if we react as we think we will when the situation happens.

It's an excellent read. And I enjoyed and recommend it.

About CD Reiss:

_21A6258_pp-fbCD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Sitting at the wrong table turned my life upside down. I was supposed to be on a date with one man but made a huge mistake—a mistake I keep bumping into all over New York City. Clark Chambers is arrogant, straightforward, devastatingly handsome, and takes what he wants. And right now his sight is set on me. But he only wants friends with benefits. And I’d rather eat dirt than agree to that. After an “enough is enough” moment, I turn to the Universe for help & ask for a special sign. TEMPTATION BY J.D. HAWKINS-RELEASE BLITZ AND BLOG TOUR

What happens when the boy you've wanted your whole life finally wants you back?

I'm used to taking what I want, being the best at what I do. During the day, I make big bucks as New York's premiere consultant. At night, I can get any girl I lay my eyes on. I thought this life was what I wanted: working hard and playing harder--with penthouse apartments, luxury cars and bottle service every weekend. After six years in the city, I know I've been living like a monster for too long. I need to get my act together. I need to find something real. I need to come home.

LA means family and a fresh start. My parents and my friends who are close enough to be siblings.

And Melina.

Melina is nerdy smart, with a challenging sense of humor and legs for miles. It's so hard to describe her...enigmatically beautiful. I’m sure there’s a word for it in French. But I know there's a naughty girl hiding behind that shy smile that I'm dying to drag out.

There was always something between us. I never forgot her laugh, never could get her off my mind. Nobody ever seemed to notice how my body would react when I was near Melina, how much more focused I became—maybe not even Melina herself. But this time it’s different.

The more time we spend together, the more I wonder if there was something there all along. After so long in the fast lane, I don't know if I can handle settling down. But seeing Melina's passion, I'm tempted beyond belief.

I have to admit it: temptation is hard to resist.

This isn't my first J.D. Hawkins book and it certainly won't be my last. Friends to lovers is one of my all time favorite tropes and I enjoyed the way this Author told that story. This was a quick read for me that I enjoyed overall.

I liked Melina. She's definitely smart and talented, she's just missing some self confidence. I think most women can relate to that.

It took me a little longer to warm up to Wyatt. I'm not sure what exactly it was about him but he just didn't click with me right away. I did grow to like him though and really do think he's a good guy.

The connection between these two characters felt very natural to me. I believed in their friendship and I believed in them as a couple. The sex was hot but their connection outside the bedroom was just as important to this book.

I thought the book was well written and the plot moved along well. I enjoyed this friends to lovers romance and would recommend it.

I'm a little torn on this one. On one hand, this is the strongest writing I've read by this author. It flows well, the story is smooth. Wyatt and Melina feel real, and like they are real people with real reactions.

Kombucha, people, isn't that bad. I like it, in fact I'm drinking some right now. It's good. Despite how it's portrayed in this book, it's good.

I loved the bits of LA that made it into the book...although their photo tour of the city CLEARLY happened on a day with no traffic. But that's ok, it worked for the story.

On the other hand, I'm just not sure I particularly liked either of them. I'm honestly not sure why, but at the end of this I just didn't feel like I'd been on a compelling ride with the characters.

I do recommend this title...and based on the other reviews, it's just me who feels this way. And that's ok.
