Hot Cop by Laurelin Paige & Sierra Simone

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis

From NYT Bestselling Author, Laurelin Paige and USA Today Bestselling Author, Sierra Simone comes a steamy contemporary romantic follow-up to last year's bestseller P*rn Star.

You have the right to remain sexy.

Anything you say can and will be used to get you in my bed.
You have the right to use my body to give yourself a delirious, life-changing orgasm.
If you have trouble...don't worry, I'm a bit of an expert in that department.
There's nothing 'thin' about my blue line, if you catch my drift, and trust me, I know how to put those handcuffs to good use.

***

Livia Ward wants a baby before she’s thirty. And even though Officer Chase Kelly is exactly the kind of cocky jerk this librarian has sworn off, he is undeniably hot. Both of them think they can give each other what they want--a few nights of fun for Officer Kelly, a no-strings baby for Livia--but this hot cop is about to learn that sex, babies, and love don’t always play by the rules.

I am not the biggest fan of the "baby" trope. And, I find it highly amusing that this is the 2nd book this week that focused on a woman who wants a baby and finds the perfect man to do it with. (I was not able to resist that wording, I know, I really should have...but it kind of fits in with the book.)

But, when Sierra Simone writes a book, I love it. And when Laurelin Paige writes a book, I love it. So, them together? Yeah, I loved it. And, I admit, were it not for who was writing this, I may have shied away because of the trope. If this is you, if you are thinking the same thing, I promise you, all of the reasons you don't like the baby storyline (the one dimensional characters you don't like who don't ever seem to really like one another...at least this is why I don't like them) are totally missing here. Fully developed, complex, funny, heartwarming characters are what you get here.

The plot is somewhat as you expect, but there are some twists and surprises along the way, including one at the end that gives the reader a great glimpse into Chase and what he has been thinking all along. You get to know the characters, as it is told in dual pov. And, the time spent with each character is well balanced, so you feel that they are each equally developed by the end.

I will admit that this one made me feel all the feels. I was charmed from the beginning. Chase and Livia have chemistry that just sparks, and their meet cute is absolutely hilarious. Snow White, with bolt cutters. No, I am not making that up, but you are going to have to read the book for that one to be explained. And, it will make you laugh. Their whole first meeting will make you laugh.

There were so many things about this book that I loved. As always, the characters were strong, and they were real, and they acted like you think they should in the situations. And, you can relate to them. I think the reason they feel so real is that the surrounding details make the story feel like real life while maintaining the escape of fiction, including some sexy time scenes that probably should have the "do not try this yourself" warning running in the margins of the book.

But, isn't that why we read? I know it is for me. I read to escape, but also to believe that there could be people out there who are just like the characters in the book. I believe that Chase and Livia are real, and doesn't that make it even more fun?

I recommend this book.

When Laurelin Paige and Sierra Simone write a book it immediately goes on my TBR list. Why? Because I know these authors are going to give me a fun, steamy book that'll make me laugh out loud in spots and swoon in others. Hot Cop certainly did all of that and more.

I get why some people might be wary of a book where it clearly states that the main goal of the characters is to get the heroine pregnant. But I'm telling you, give this book a try. It's about so much more than pregnancy-and that's what made me love it.

Livia is one of those characters that got under my skin. I wanted to hang out with this librarian. She's complex and has this almost painful awkwardness at times but it made her completely relatable. There were moments that some of the things she said had me wincing and face palming-which, I'm going to be honest, I expect more from the male character. So I thought that role reversal was a bit fun.

Chase Kelly. WOW. Just wow. The title of the book doesn't do this man justice. He's more than just a pretty face-though initially that's all he wants to be known for. I wasn't expecting him to have the amount of depth he had to be honest. Yes, with these authors I knew he'd be a fully developed and wonderful hero, but there was just way more to him. He absolutely broke my heart at times but he also healed it. I have a weakness for Captain America and Chase Kelly could give him a run for his money in my opinion.

These two together? Perfect. The sparks between them are undeniable and I swear I thought my kindle was going to combust from the heat between them. Their sexy times? Some of the sexiest I've read from these authors-which should tell you something. But there was so much more to them and it was fantastic to watch them navigate their relationship that wasn't a relationship.

The secondary characters added some fun and a touch more sweetness to the story. The pacing was perfect and the writing was sharp and fun-but it was also thought provoking for me in a way I didn't fully expect from this book. I laughed and got teary eyed, which is the sign of a pretty great book for me. I highly recommend this book.

I’m at the steakhouse fifteen minutes early, which is on time in Chase Kelly’s book. I’ve never been late for work or a date a single time in my life; in fact, I’ve always been early, which is a point of pride for me. And Livia walks in at seven on the dot, something that endears me to her immensely, although the moment I register that I, Officer Kelly, am charmed, my mind goes blank. Just blank. There is nothing but her. She walks in on heels that make her legs a mile long, her long hair down in a tumult of soft waves. The maĆ®tre d' helps her take off her checkered wool coat, and then I. Am. Speechless. My heart hammers up in my throat as the blood pools deep in my groin. She’s wearing a bright red dress—so fucking short that I’d be able to finger her easily if we were in a booth, which we tragically aren’t. The red sets off the warm undertones of her bronze skin, highlights the deep brown of her eyes. The lines of it hug the delectable curves of her tits, which are just small enough that she can get away without wearing a bra. My cock thickens as she begins walking toward me, and I can verify that she is definitely not wearing a bra. Oh God, what if she’s not wearing panties either? I bite back a groan and push back my chair to greet her as she comes to our table, tugging the hem of my sweater down in one smooth move as I unfold myself to help disguise the effect her presence has on me. As I step forward to greet her, I notice the color high in her cheeks and the way her teeth dig into the soft coral of her bottom lip. She looks nervous. That gives me pause. I don’t mind a woman meeting me cold or shy or overly eager, I don’t even mind a case of the first date jitters—since first dates are pretty much all I go on, I see a lot of those. But nervous—truly nervous—that bothers me a little. Do I make her feel unsafe? Is it my size? My job? In a split second, I change gears. I can be patient when it comes to the Kelly Trio, and I find that the idea of wooing my nervous little librarian on date after date doesn’t sound tiresome at all...it sounds delightful, actually. A challenge. A test to see if I’m worthy enough to remove all traces of trepidation from her face and fill her expression with eagerness and surrender instead. And get more time with this fierce, sweet bookworm all to myself. I lean in to kiss her cheek, careful to angle our bodies so that I don’t press against her with six feet, two hundred pounds of hungry cop. Instead, I anchor her with a firm hand at her elbow, pleased to feel the goose bumps that spread underneath my touch. And then I brush my lips against her cheek, making sure she can feel them, making sure she gets just the tiniest brush of my scruff as I accidentally-on-purpose slide my jaw against hers as I pull away. She shivers. I look down into her eyes as I straighten up, and I’m suddenly aware that I’m supporting a lot of weight in my hand, as if her knees are weak from my kiss. Well done, Officer Good Times! Her eyes are wide, the pupils so blown and her irises so dark that her eyes are just huge liquid wells of want, and I feel a familiar tug in my groin knowing that I put that look there. “I forget how big you are,” she murmurs, her head tilted up to look into my face. I give her my biggest grin and open my mouth, but she cuts me off before I can say it, shaking her head. “I know, I know. I walked right into that one.” But the ghost of a smile flits across her lips as I help her into her seat and push in her chair. When I sit across from her and we start looking at our menus, I notice the smile has vanished and the nervous look is back, along with a determined set to her shoulders. The combination of uneasiness and backbone intrigues and worries me at the same time. “I don’t know what Megan told you,” I say, “but I don’t bite.” She looks up from the menu, her teeth back to digging into the plump flesh of her bottom lip. “Well,” I amend, staring at her mouth, “sometimes I do bite. But only when I really, really want to.”

HOT COP FOR TOUR

About Laurelin:

USA Today and New York Times Bestselling Author Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She's also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn't do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio. She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.

I’m absolutely serious when I repeat my request. “Your baby. I want your baby.” He swallows. “That’s.” He nods. “No.” He shakes his head. “I.” He fidgets in his chair, looking around the restaurant. “Waiter!” he calls to the server walking by who is most definitely not our waiter. “Can I get you something, sir?” “I’m going to need another drink.” Chase holds up his beer. “Another two drinks.” “I’ll tell your server,” the waiter says and slips away. I open my mouth but Chase says, “I’m going to need a minute.” I start to speak anyway, and he puts a finger up to silence me. I sigh. I knew I was going about this wrong. I should have blown him first. Or I shouldn’t have approached this from the sex angle at all. Should never have let him think it was a date. Should definitely not have let him touch me like I did. God, though. I can still feel his fingers. Feel how they brushed across my pussy. Feel how they stroked inside me. I shiver at the memory. He was right—I didn’t just come here tonight without panties because I didn’t want panty lines. The truth is I’d been prepared to use any means necessary to get what I wanted, including the old razzle dazzle. Problem was he razzled me first. I should have been straightforward from the beginning. Hopefully this isn’t too botched to salvage. I glance at Chase who is studying me, eyes squinted. He hasn’t indicated that he’s ready for me to speak, but fuck that. I have things to say. Leaning forward, I rest my elbows on the table. “Look. I’m not a crazy cop stalker, if that’s what you’re thinking. Or someone who’s trying to trap you into a marriage or a relationship or even child support.” His expression doesn’t change. “You have no idea what I’m thinking.” “Then what are you thinking?” The twinkle is back in his eyes, which is a relief. “That you’re a crazy cop stalker who’s trying to trap me into a marriage or a relationship or child support.” I stifle a laugh. “I’m not. I promise. I don’t want anything from you. Other than the baby, I mean.” And really hot sex. Repeated hot sex. “You don’t want anything from me,” he repeats, somewhat skeptical. I clarify. “I want a baby. But no marriage. No relationship. No child support. No parental claim at all.” He finishes the last of his beer and leans back in his chair. “I still don’t understand.” He’s a smart guy. So either he’s playing dumb on purpose or he’s caught up on some part of the details. I decide to make it as simple as possible. Speak the language he speaks best. “It’s easy, Chase. You want to have sex with me.” I feel sensual and strong with my bold statement. But suddenly I’m afraid I’ve jumped to conclusions and my confidence falters. “You do want to have sex with me, don’t you?” It’s his turn to look at me as though I’m playing crazy. “Yes, Livia,” he says with wide emphatic eyes. “Yes.” He pauses only a second before adding, “Do I need to make myself clearer? Because I can, but it wouldn’t be appropriate in a public venue.” I bite my lip, pressing my thighs closer together to ease the newest wave of agony. “I think we’ve already pushed the limits of public decency. But you’re the cop. You’d know better than I would.” His lip curls up on one side, and I know he’s considering. Damn, what I’d give to have a peek at the naughty imaginings going on inside his mind, because I know they’re naughty from the gleam in his eye. Very naughty. “Chase…” I warn. “You’re right, you’re right. Already pushed the limits. Go on.” But the gleam in his eye remains, and I’m giddy knowing that I’m prey, and he’s a predator just biding his time. “Okay,” I say, my voice barely steady. “So, when you have sex, there are these microscopic things called sperm that come out of a man’s body when he ejaculates.” “Liv, I know about sperm. But go on ahead and tell me about ejaculation. I’d like to hear what you have to say about that.” His gaze never leaves mine and I flush picturing his cum in unproductive places—places that won’t make a baby—on my belly, on my breasts, spilling down my throat. No, inside me. That’s where I want it most. I lick my lips. “I’m saying you want to put it in me. I’m just asking to keep it afterward.”
