Brutal Billionaire by Laurelin Paige - ARC Review

He’ll get what he wants—even if I’m already taken.

Holt Sebastian is royalty in our world.

As CEO of the Sebastian News Corp, he’s the man with all the power. The man who decides if I’ll always just be a local television anchor or if I’ll be the rising star of my own show.

I make it my mission to be noticed. Make him see my potential. But soon, it's clear he's the one in charge.

His possessiveness is brutal.

His eyes own everything they touch. I feel his gaze on me when he's in the room. The heat of them as they rake down my body, taking me in, marking me as his. He doesn’t just want me on the screen—he wants me in his bed.

And Holt Sebastian gets what he wants.

No one will stop him, no one will get in his way.

No one can protect me from his desire.

Not even the man who promised nothing would come between us and his ambition—my husband.

Laurelin Paige delivers a twist on Indecent Proposal in this billionaire workplace standalone romance featuring elements of fake relationship, marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers, and a new alphahole readers will love to hate.

Moral grey area? Check.

Affair and cheating.  Check. Check.

Characters who act in ways that you definitely shouldn't like?  It's a Laurelin Paige book, so check.

Sign. Me. Up.

Holt and Brystin are perfection although they aren't for the faint of heart as they aren't the "perfect" romance with a couple of perfect people and a meet cute that is nothing but swoon worthy.

And, I am so incredibly glad they aren't.  If you have read any of my reviews, you will know that I am all in for the darker and twistier books, that affairs and cheating don't bother me, even when there isn't a "good reason for them (although there is in this book, but no spoilers here) so I was all in for this one.

The romance is amazing.  The evolution of their relationship from something that isn't romantic (or maybe it really is, I guess it depends on the individual reader as I find it kind of awesome how far Holt was willing to go for his honeybee...but not the point) to the perfect happy ever after was quite a ride and one that kept me reading until I was up much later than I should have been.

The characters were complex with deep emotions and reactions that were only predictable because they were so well written that you got to know them as you read the story, which makes their happy ending even better.

Laurelin Paige is a favorite of mine for her ability to write books like this and characters like Brystin and Holt and this one didn't disappoint.  Woven in this book are also acknowledgements that books like this are just fine, even though we don't live in the same world we lived in 5 years ago, and I loved that.  When you know better, you do better, and the way the doing better was wove into the reality and thoughts/actions of the characters...well, it's a world I would like to see more of.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

About Laurelin:

With millions of books sold worldwide, Laurelin Paige is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author. She is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however.

When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Killing Eve or Letterkenny, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She's also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn't do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio.

She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.
