Dominic spent a night in jail for an excellent reason, but to look at it on the outside, it's a night in jail meaning he may not be the best choice for a coach for a kids hockey team. But, he has his reasons and, as a reader, you find out these reasons pretty much at the same time his team does.

Holly is a single mom with a child on the team, a child who wants to be a good player but is struggling and who has one of those dads you want to smack upside the head...even though he is a character in a book.

This is a slow burn, it's angsty, and it has a lot going on outside of the characters and their relationship, but it still works and never starts to feel like it lost focus on the main couple in the story.

Dominic is closed off, Holly is fairly newly divorced and understandably reluctant to move on to another relationship, especially as her ex-husband has managed to move next door to her (long story there) and making her feel like while she is divorced, she hasn't really gotten totally free of the relationship. Dominic, while dealing with her walls and concerns realizes that the walls he has (reasonably) put in place are the ones that are both protecting him from hurt but also keeping him from living and connecting with others.

Watching both of them open up to the possibilities they had closed themselves off from is the real fun of the story. That and their chemistry. It's fabulous and you really want things to work out for them.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.
