It looks cut-and-dried...until he sets eyes on Kayla. She's smart, but she's also trusting to a fault--and the heat that flares up between them keeps getting in the way of Kane's best intentions. But if Kayla ever suspects his real motives, Kane will be the one who ends up getting burned....
What's a detective to do when he finds himself attracted to the woman he suspects might be operating a prostitution ring out of the family "charm school" business?
Sleep with her, of course.
Wait, that was the wrong answer? Don't tell Kane and Kayla this, as it's the start of their relationship (once she forgives him for lying to her, of course) and it's the beginning of their story, which is a lightly updated reissue of the previously published title.
I loved that about it, it had the feel of the older titles by Carly Phillips without feeling dated because technology has moved well past what was in the original version of the book.
This was a lighter story, although there is a bit of a heavy theme as they start to uncover the things that were going on in the family business, but overall it's a fun and quick read with characters you enjoy.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.

Wealthy Assistant D.A. Logan Montgomery needs to ruin his reputation--fast That's the only way he'll be able to convince his father that he's not cut out to follow the family tradition of going into politics. His plan? To indulge in a "very public" fling with a woman whose family is a scandal in itself. It should have been the perfect solution...
Only, the more time Logan spends with Catherine Luck, the more he realizes he'd give up his reputation--and "everything" else--for just one night in her bed...
This was a reread for me, although it's definitely been long enugh since I read Logan and Catherine's story that it felt new.
It's also been updated, just a little, from the original, allowing it to feel like "classic" Carly Phillips but also like it's new and updated for the times.
Catherine is a little down on her luck (pun intended) after the discovery in the 1st book that her family business is actually a front for organized crime, but she is doing her best to make things work and doesn't think that Logan, who is from a rich and prominent family, will want anything to do with her.
But, he does, and the life he lives and the things he values end up surprising her and she realizes that it's definitely possible for there to be a happily ever after at the end of their story.
The getting to the HEA is a little predictable, but not in a way that ruins the fun of the story.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.
