My Bestie's Ex by Piper Rayne-Release Blast

Blurb:

I can’t borrow him.

He’s not a sweater or a skirt.

He’s not even her favorite dress—the lucky one she wears on first dates. The one she probably wore on her first date with him.

In my defense, I didn’t know who he was. To me, he was a cool, calm, confident stranger. He was perfection for the entire hour and a half train ride while the concrete jungle turned into a rolling green landscape.

To an outsider, we probably appeared more friends than hopeful lovers. But my blush came quickly, and his dimples indented with every smile. We definitely shared a spark of what could be.

Too bad I didn’t know who he was before I fell for him, because he can’t be mine.

I loved Blanca and Ethan.

Full disclosure, some of the earlier titles by this author duo were favorites of mine, but I haven't loved the latest books as much as the earlier ones...until this one. This one worked and I found myself thinking "ah-ha, this is the author duo that I love" more than once while reading the book.

I don't know what it was about this book, but I enjoyed every second of it. I liked Blanca, and her loyalty to her friends. I liked the families, the meet-cute, the romance and the story that was told in this one.

It's not new exactly, as the idea that you can't date a friend's ex isn't exactly a new idea...but, it felt new. I think because you aren't mad at Blanca...you understand her. You get why she made the decision she did, and you know that it is breaking her heart and instead of being mad at her, you feel for her.

I did think the resolution of the situation seemed to come a little easily, but at the same time it was addressed and not just pushed under the rug and ignored. And, while I think it was too quick, I did believe in the authenticity of the way it was resolved.

The Mancini family appears in previous stories, and they are part of this one...but it's not necessary to have read the other titles in order for you to know what is going on. This is a standalone and while it is interconnected, there are no issues with being unable to figure out what is going on in the story.

The blurb for this book caught my attention right away, and the writing kept my attention throughout. This book left me with a smile on my face. There were moments that had me laughing out loud, and others that pulled on my heartstrings. Overall, I enjoyed this title!

Blanca and Ethan have quite the meet cute-and I 100% believed that how they met worked for them. Their first interaction had me grinning and wanting to see where it would take them. Now, I knew it wouldn't be an easy journey-I mean, there is a code against dating your bestie's ex, right? But I think the authors handled that very well here, I understood why things happened the way they did and it made sense to me.

I liked the supporting cast here. Sometimes the supporting characters can overwhelm the hero and heroine but in this case they supported them very well. I loved Blanca's brothers (yes, they are in other books but you don't have to read them to understand this book); their overprotectiveness felt real and genuine.

This book flowed for me, and it had a good balance in its story. It wasn't overly sweet, and it did touch on a difficult topic and I think that was handled gracefully. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it.
