Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis - ARC Review

Who needs mistletoe?

Most people wouldn't think of a bad Santa case as the perfect Christmas gift. Then again, Molly Malone, office manager at Hunt Investigations, isn't most people, and she could really use a distraction from the fantasies she's been having since spending the night with her very secret crush, Lucas Knight. Nothing happened, not that Lucas knows that — but Molly just wants to enjoy being a little naughty for once...

Whiskey and pain meds for almost-healed bullet wounds don't mix. Lucas needs to remember that next time he's shot on the job, which may be sooner rather than later if Molly's brother, Joe, finds out about them. Lucas can't believe he's drawing a blank on his (supposedly) passionate tryst with Molly, who's the hottest, smartest, strongest woman he's ever known. Strong enough to kick his butt if she discovers he's been assigned to babysit her on her first case. And hot enough to melt his cold heart this Christmas.

Waking up with the one woman you want, but can't (or shouldn't have) makes for a tough, coffee-less day for Lucas.  I loved the way this book started, with all of the pieces starting to come together for the readers, and Lucas, that the woman he left in his bed is definitely going to turn out to be none other than his coworker Molly.

OOPS.  That's going to get messy, and it does.  Molly wants to move to a new position in the company, and she wants the chance to take on her own investigations...so, while fighting to keep his attraction from her under control, he's asked to help watch out for Molly, and to make sure she doesn't get into trouble.

No problem....or is it?  It definitely is, as she is on to something, and it is an actual big deal, the kind of thing the investigation firm would usually take on, and not the kind of thing she should be dealing with alone, so Lucas is forced to spend even more time with Molly, to keep her safe and out of trouble.  And, as often is the case, the more time they spend together, the more he falls in love.

Add in the mafia, some angry Santa's Helper Elves bent on revenge, and an attraction neither of them is able to fight, and you have an enjoyable romance.
