I don't even know how he got me on board. Sure, I could use a break from the one-night stands and merry-go-round lovers in my bed, but I hadn't thought that putting a ring on a woman's finger was the answer.
Especially not that woman.
Elizabeth Dyson needs to marry to get access to her father's company and take over as president. If I take on the role of groom, she'll hand over her advertising subsidiary to Reach Inc. the firm I own with Donovan, my supposed best friend.
Problem is that, even though the girl is confident and sexy and brilliant, she doesn't know the first thing about running an empire. And she's awfully particular about the wedding plans, even though it's a FAKE wedding, for all intents and purposes. And we can't seem to spend more than five minutes together without wanting to tear each other's hair out.
Worst of all, I can't stop imagining what it would be like to kiss her.
And soon I'm unsure how much of this business arrangement is just play and how much of it is real.
Well then.
That cliffhanger sucked. More than a little. And, more than usual. I think.
Elizabeth and Weston. For a couple of people who only were involved in a marriage of convenience, you guys really turned that into something real.
And lasting. And a love that you can build a lifetime of moments with, as it is real.
Communication, however, isn't working out for you all that well. You aren't on the same page in the romance, at the beginning or at the end of the cliffhanger. And, that, I think, is going to be what really causes you all the problems in the next book.
Cliffhangers come in 2 types; the ones where external forces act against the happiness of the couple and ones where it is the couple themselves, internally, who cause the reason that the relationship seems destined to not make it into book 2. I am not going to tell you which one we have here, but I will say it is my favorite kind of cliffhanger. If that's even a thing. "Favorite cliffhanger" isn't the easiest phrase to write, I admit.
Laurelin Paige likes to torture her readers. And, I am guessing if you ask her, she will admit it. And, torture us she does in this one. By the end of the book, you are so invested in this relationship and you want it to be so much more than a means to a business end, that you forget, just for a second, that these are 2 people willing to fake a marriage in order to achieve business results. And, that drive and determination doesn't just go away.
Did I love this book? Of course I did. It's well written, sexy (sometimes scorchingly so) and about 2 people that you genuinely like. What is there not to like about this book? Well...there is that cliffhanger. But, Laurelin always delivers in her books, so cliffhanger or not, I know the book is going to be worth it.
Some authors if you know the book is a duet, you find yourself tempted to wait until both parts are out so you can read them together. And, I get it...but, really, you can wait months KNOWING there are new words by Laurelin Paige that you haven't read? This isn't something I can do...and, cliffhanger or not, this book is worth reading the second you can get your hands on it!
I've been intrigued by the character of Weston since reading Dirty Filthy Rich Men. I found him to be quite intriguing and just wanted more. Well, I definitely got more with this book and guess what? I'm still not satisfied LOL. I mean, I am so enamored with him. He's a player for sure, with no intentions of settling down but when you suggest something to do with his company...well, that changes things.
Elizabeth. Sharp, smart and savvy. I really enjoyed getting to know her. She has spunk, which you have to have in order to deal with a man like Weston.
Now the way these two spark off each other was seriously electrifying. Things that were supposed to be fake were suddenly real...and steamy as hell. I swear-I'm glad I have a few ways to read e-books because this scorched my kindle.
The pacing of this book was great. I was hooked from the first line and didn't want to stop. If you've read the Dirty Filthy Rich books you'll know a little about these characters. If you haven't, that's ok....I'm sure you will after reading this.
So as I've mentioned, this is a duet...which means there's a cliffhanger for sure. It's a doozy of one and I seriously kept trying to turn the page on my kindle hoping for just one more sentence. I can't wait for the second book to come out. I absolutely highly recommend this book.
